Only 2 games!? What? Haven't you ever played the original Doom or Wolfenstein 3D? For being a FPS fan, I didn't expect that.
There are many games but im talking about not a single minor NPC. metro 2033 has no single female character. early doom and wolf 3d has no characters. they had no story. and new doom has only one female character who is only female in entire game. RTCW has some minor female characters but in new order they give a love interest which is out of place. i mean a love interest in a freakin Wolfenstien game??!

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I was going to saw doom 3 then I remembered that it did have a female in it. But she only existed to get turned into the first lost soul enemy you fight. Plus I think one of the boss monsters had boobs or something.

I don't think the first warcraft had any women in it.

I don't recall the original halflife having any women. I guess there is a female voice though.

Tf2 doesn't but again, voice and extended material.

Enemy Territory quake wars didn't... I don't think. It was multi only.

Probably most of the battlefield games don't.

HOW DARE GAMES EVOLVE AND PROVIDE THINGS LIKE COMPLEX NARATIVE! RAWR!

Why is this a fucking thread?

"Blah blah I'm B-Cell and I only play the manliest of manly games. Get them stinking women out of my entertainment for no boob shall lead me down the road toward pleasurable enlightenment!"

Come on dude. Grow up. Good characters are good no matter what gender or body type they are. You wanna keep living in the late 90's early 00's go ahead. But don't harken that trash like it was some sort of gold age because it wasn't.

late 90s and early 00s era is much better than today. there was time when developers focus on good level design instead of focusing on love interest and romance.

They don't focus on that now! What are you even talking about? Having female characters in a game doesn't make them romance plot points.

It had a love interest in it. but it wasn't Focused on that. Nor was it about that romance. That game had great level design, a great story, and tons of badass nazi killing. You are simply nuts.

lol no. it was just straight forward where arrow telling where to go and sometimes focus on forced stealth segments.
Dude being confusing doesn't make good level design. There are certain modern adaptations in gaming now that you are forever going to have to deal with. I promise you Prey is going to tell you exactly where to go, and I bet it'll have girls in it too, so make sure you bring protection.

Prey previews are positive its its old school design by arkane. a level design which have freedom to explore the whole enviroment is good as oppose to one which involve linear hand holding.

The original STALKER protagonist was a woman BTW.
Do you have a link to that?
Here. From the time of STALKER: Oblivion Lost

*The woman in the gallery.

The name was a placeholder obviously. For both her and Jeffry.
Wow! I'm glad the game advanced past that point- it feels like a weird Serious Sam mockup. Not bad, really- might be fun to try- but just not anything like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R that I know and love.

The reason STALKER doesnt have females is the same as to why it doesnt have black or asians in it - GSC was out of money and this was a low importance feature. Correct assumption, no one cares and the money was running thin already.
Isn't it a bit of a sad state of affairs that it was a low importance feature, though? Surely all games should seek to present the world as it is - of all genders, in almost every single part of society - as a default starting point. And that's not some wacky liberal POV, either, it's just about an ostensibly realistic looking/feeling game having cohesive design.

Yes, the practicalities mean certain things (all kinds of things) don't make the cut, but personally I feel they should've shoved fairly crappy female assets into the game than not include them at all. I mean, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was a frikkin' mess when it released, so some janky gendered assets wouldn't have really looked out of place...

Other than sometimes my XCOM squads, is there any game with only female characters, and no men? I wonder how many games dev'd primarily or exclusively by women feature worlds with only their own gender present, or overtly prioritised.
The only ones I can think of are Metroid II: The Return of Samus (if we treat Ridley as male, that invalidates most Metroid games from being female-only) and maybe some Tomb Raider games.
Come on dozens of games with all-female casts come out of Japan every year. No they aren't meant for female audences at all but still.

It would be sad, or at least short-sighted, to omit female characters in an IP now, I suppose...

I don't think games need to hit some gender quota that may or may not exist, certainly not as a parallel of the real world (which, again, could be debated). Now, it's nice to offer this, as well as racial diversity, and with certain game types the notion should be given especial weight, but no, I don't think it should be some sort of default starting point.

In this one instance, I will say this: I like that this series persisted in using battle-hardened men as the only gender for soldiers, ex-military, and thieves in the demilitarized zone (It was however a small detail among many other more prominent features that made the series stand out as one of my favorite games).

Out of the games on my PC:
Oddworld. (Maybe, it's hard to tell)
Pony Island. (Ditto)
Quake. (Although it's just your dude and eldritch nasties)
Ski Free.

On the flipside, these are the games I own with only female characters:
Analogue: A Hate Story. (Provided AI can be considered female)
Her Story.
Well, Shub-Niggurath is female in the Lovecraft Lore, so I imagine she is in Quake too.
