Pokemon.
Metal Gear.
Call of Duty.

I am a walking contradiction.
Actually, while I'm not a fan of any of the above (though Pokemon is reasonably entertaining), the combinations could be pretty funny. Pokemon+Call of Duty would be suitably bizarre, I'm not sure how Pokemon/Metal Gear (thinking of plot/themes here, not the stealth gameplay bit in particular) would work out, and...

Well, Metal Gear/CoD? Fairly sure that'd work quite well, with a decent writer.

As for me, I'm generally the first to criticize my favourite games. I really like, for instance, Sacrifice, Rudras, Terranigma, Planescape: Torment and a whole bunch of others. A few that I'll defend (though not especially rabidly, I'm not good at that) are Iji and Hisoutensoku. Good as those games are, they're not my favourites, but they do lack any real flaws for the most part, aside from the oddness of the latter. Sacrifice doesn't have any flaws that stand out enough for you to actually notice them while playing for the most part, but they're certainly there once you stop to think.

Wow, I'm bad at this.

Edit: As the poster above said, SotC is pretty great. Don't have much to criticize there.

More edit: And now I have the answer to how pokemon+metal gear would work.

Or alternatively...

Metal gear?

Yes, metal gear. In perhaps the most literal sense possible.

Timesplitters.
Timesplitters is the greatest video game series ever developed by man. You will never convince me otherwise.

I would have sex with it if I could.

...

What?
You know with the proper surgery and some crisco you can.

For me I love FFX fuck you if you don't like it, I do you can't convince me otherwise.

Though I saw an extremely odd phenomenon recently I replayed FFVII and skimmed through a walkthrough to make sure I didn't miss anything important. The writer called it squares best game ever in the intro, then spent the entire walkthrough bitching about everything in the game (I mean everything, except the combat) then called it perfect on the last page of it. I was so so very confused.

I figure for my first ever post in The Escapist Forums it might as well be about something I'm passionate about, so being a fanboy it is!

I absolutely LOVE the Hitman game series; ramp it onto the hardest difficulty and get the missions done without a fuss. It's a beautiful thing.

And Total War. Been playing that since the Shogun and I can't bring myself to stop! Being outnumbered and crushing the enemy army whilst losing very few troops myself is a very gratifying experience.

Timesplitters - Best FPS series ever in my opinion
Metal Gear Solid - Yes you spent more time watching than playing, but damn the story was great and gameplay also was great
Pro Evolution Soccer - I like my football :)
Civilization - At this point it's no longer fanboyism and more a full blown addiction

In my mind a fanboy is someone who wilfully disregards any flaws that a game may have. Since I recognise that all games have flaws, I'm not a fanboy of anything. That said, flaws can always be outweighed by the good, but it doesn't make the flaws not exist.

Without question, the Myst series. It has amazing worlds, it's imaginative, it has a great community, there's online multiplayer now, the puzzles are challenging (sometimes), and makes you feel like you've accomplished something. But most of all, because the storyline is beyond compare.

Also, System Shock 2. Best gameplay of any FPS ever. Even better than Deus Ex.

Oh, and

I agree with him, I guess I'm not really a fanboy of anything...

Return to Castle Wolfenstein. No FPS will ever match the sheer awesomeness of both the Singleplayer and the Multiplayer.
