I am about to go completely nuts trying to rack my brain over this game. Any help would be so much appreciated! Unfortunately, the details are vague :( My nephew and I used to play this game on either his Sega Genesis or SNES. We both think it was the Genesis.

The only image that is stuck in my head is that you had a male cartoony-looking Character (with antics similar to that of Earthworm Jim, just in human form). You had either a blaster gun or ray gun. I can't be sure but I want to say the playing board was 3D-like and the levels were set in a space-like environment. It was a scrolling game, too. The game board would be like he had to complete tasks in order to maybe open up a teleporter to get to the next level. I remember one part where he has to jump from the playing board to a separate piece that was a rotating tube and had to get something. Some of the blocks on the board would rotate and he could fall off, etc. Some areas of the board were separate from the main board and he would have to get to it by jumping on a moving piece and when that piece got to the area he needed to get to, you'd have to time and jump to keep from falling to your death kinda thing. There were other things on the board to hinder you completing your goal like shooting flames that you would have to time to get around.

I do recall that there were enemies on the board but I can't remember what kind. The game was comical and I would love to know the name of it, so I can try to hunt it down to replay.

Thanks much!!

Good evening, everyone.

I'd like some help regarding a particular game I've played many, many years ago, around the 90s. It was a top-down, 2D military game where you can choose to drive a helicopter, a jeep which can drive on water and perhaps a few other vehicles I may have forgotten.

The most discerning feature of this game was that it was played with the distinct orchestral background of Ride of the Valkyries. Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun! Dun-dun-dun-dun! Dundundundun! (I am quite aware that I'm the only one that can hear the voices in my head.)

The game starts with you picking one of a few vehicles, then you get transported via a huge metal elevator in the same screen onto the desert above. It has lagoons and some patches of grass, but was otherwise dominated by golden sand like age has dominated my memory.

Other things I remember about the game is that the vehicles appear quite small on the screen, and the helicopter travels quite quickly. The jeep's wheels rotate until it is parallel to the water while it floats. Or, so i think. It may, or may not, also have a multiplayer mode which I may, or may not, have used to fight a dummy player to satisfy my wounded ego after a thorough beating by the AI.

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me at least a hint on where I can start looking. Thank you very much.

Hi guys...
It's been so long since I've started looking for this game, if anyone is up to the task I shall be very grateful.
There were four characters. Ninja and Wizard for sure plus warrior with sword and woman (she could add herself a energy at any point in the game from some sort of magic bottle.
There was a shop in the game, after each level there were different items waiting for every hero. These were fantastic.
Ninja was the only character that could shoot from the very beginning of the game, wizard could open special window and choose his magic ability, I think he had just 2 fireballs at the beginning of the game.
First boss was some sort of jelly thing hanging from the ceiling also coming down to attack you.
This platform game was in the saloon with arcade games, not sure who manufactured it.

I think I found similar game with a word gauntlet in it but it's a pure guess. I just cant say.

Anyone???

Hmm, I remember playing a fighter on the Mega Drive/Genesis, fairly typical 2D beat 'em up but the characters had beast/monster forms. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

I remember playing an old PC game where it was like a first person RTS, you'd have this giant vehicle that also acted as your main base.

I particularly remember a level where I had to transport my base across thin ice along this very small path.

Off-Topic:

What the hell is this?

One game I kinda remember was for SNES, it was an action adventure kinda like LoZ, but you could have an animal or something follow you around, you could enchant your sword with two spells i think? I just remember putting Ice and fire on it and it turned it black but gave it no benefit. Also at one point you race a cheetah but couldn't beat it unless you had running shoes or something and then it could become one of your companion things. Anyone know this one?

It was on the PS2 or maybe the PS1 where you had guns on cars and you drove round trying to destroy each others cars.
Anyone know anything about that?
Vigalante 8, or it's equal vigalante 8 2nd offense posbbily.

In the sequal, there was a level in a desert that had a huge crater in the middle, if that helps you remeber.

The 1st one is on the XBLA arcade by the way.

Mine was a game where at the very beginning all of the towns got destroyed so you had to travel into the all the dungeons and find the buildings and inhabitants of the town and then you get to rebuild the towns in any way you like. the combat was ok, but the customization was amazing. it was PS2

It was the first one dark cloud. Thanks. now I gotta go see if I can find an emulator for it.
I was just going to ask if that was it, the sequal (dark chronicles out of the US, dark cloud 2 in) was one of the best ps2 games ever.

I remember it, but there was War of the Monsters

A friend had it, he lost it, then moved away.

I have never heard or seen another copy of that game ever again

They should remake it on the PS3/XBOX360
Ah, that was a good game. Still have it I think. Somewhere.
Same.

It's lying around my room, I hope.

Great game, my friend always picked the damned robot with the missle.

There were tons of hidden stuff too, you could trigger a tsunami in one level (it was a gaint city with shycrapers), an earthquake in one other one, a volcano in two levels, and other stuff.

It was on the N64, and you drive around cars and pretty much just have a big car deathmatch. You'd pick up loads of sweet guns and fire them around, and I think the music was really catchy too. There was a campaign, though I don't remember that too well. Just blow stuff up and try and collect tapes of briefcases or something?
Difenatly vigalante 8, or it's squeal.

The special weapons were in green crates, right?

The 1st is on the XBLA arcade right now.

EDIT: ack, sorry about the double post.

I remember a game on the N64. Likely a platformer, but don't take my word for it...

Anyway, the artstyle reminds me of DBZ, and I remember there being a huge mountain that tossed boulders at you as you went up (much like Mario 64).
Super goeman or something like that.

I rented it from blockbuster, and I ended up moving when I still had it out XD. I was like 7 or 8 years old.

Okay, I can actually sorta remember this game, but I can't say I followed the story.

Okay, it didn't really have a story, but whatever.

It was called Vigilante-8, or V8. It was a combat-driving game for the N64 that nobody except my sister and me had ever heard of. You got to choose between a menagerie of cars of varying size, durability, and speed and had to square off against other, different cars, usually by yourself (unless you had a friend or three).

It wasn't a racing game, either, which was the best part for me. :)
It was more like an online Halo game in which you chose a map and had to kill all the enemies before they killed you, except you couldn't leave your car. And the driving didn't suck. It was quite cathartic.

So far, I haven't seen any games like it, and I never hear anyone talk about it anymore. Why? Was it not popular or something? I thought it was awesome.
many people have asked about it in this thread.

I still have it, actually. Thee 1st one is on the xbox live arcade right now.

I remember playing a demo from some odd RPG on the PS2 where you sort of built a city when not in the dungeons. It was pretty cool.

Also an old rally game on the same demo disc, but I think I actually have it now. :)
Likely dark cloud or it's sequal, dark chronclies/dark cloud 2.

It was a PS2 rpg, about a boy I think being possessed by some shadow creature. It had a really distinctive art style.
I'd guess shadow of the collousous.

---------------

OP, why don't you include a list of the more commonly asked ones, like Vigilante 8 and stuff?

I have two games which fit in this thread.

One was an old squaresoft game. You picked to play as either this girl with two hula hoops, or a feral boy. As you killed things in the game, you could absorb the essence. The boy could transform into the essence he controlled, and the girl could do some kind of magic based on what essences she had. I think you could have like 3 essences at any given time? and has to swap them out when you killed stuff if you wanted different ones. Sidescroller btw.

The other was an xbox title, it was a deathsport of some kind. featuring circle goals which just kind of floated in the air, you could win a match by either scoring the most points, or beating the entire team to the point they had no more subs, and had to forfeit. Since that was the other key feature, you could beat up the opponents, knocking them out for the rest of the game. And between matches, you were offered things like sponserships, player trades, experimental steroids, all sorts of things that you choose whether to accept or not, some giving you money, others being what the money was spent on. OH AND THE BEST PART. Split screen co-op.

I'm sure that you're talking about Threads of Fate.

I remember a game for Nintendo 64 where you were a dog with a cannon on it's back shooting humanoid ants. I have no idea what it was called but I liked it.

There was this game for the PSOne where you arrived to a camp or something on a boat through some kind of small river and everything was covered in snow, the first thing you had to do is jump over a fence, then you had to sneak through the camp and turn some switch on or off, I also remember never getting past that level due to some dude with a dog killing me while I was in a small house. Cookie for answer.

Hmmm...mine would be a PS1 game. It was a 3D platform/adventure game. You play as a classic looking alien in a white bodysuit, and your mission involved going from planet to planet, and collecting a range of coloured energy from enemies to power your gun.

I never saw an actual copy, but I did play the demo.

Wow, I'm glad there's a thread like this available! I'm looking for an arcade game I once played on a camping trip when I was a little kid that's been bugging me this entire time.

It was a side-scrolling beat-'m-up from the early to late 90s judging from the graphics in which the main character was in your standard "cool dude" appearance of a bright red biker jacket and fingerless driving gloves in which you fought against what I think was magical creatures from Japanese mythology, and certain enemies you fought would knock out these floating balls of energy after they died and when you picked them up, your character would gain a weapon from them, first a katana, then dual katanas then broadsword, etc. I remember it being rather easy for a quarter eater from said genre but other than that, I completely blank out on the rest.

Edit : also there was this game in which you played a lizard or gecko or whatever and the worlds were connected by tv's showing nothing but snow and if you'd go game over it would also sound like a tv going off and it looked like it too and then something came in the screen
That's Gex.
