You...but...people recommend that game for its story, not because it pushes the gameplay envelope. Having unique gameplay would actually be to the detriment of the game.B-Cell said:I played it and quit it after hour. its just another cover based shooter. basically gears of war with sands. waste of time. they can make a shooter without wall cover.Skatalite said:I really like how many people are mentioning Spec Ops: The Line. Didn't expect that.
.
I agree with your points and will add one more that I forgot to mention in my own post.Shoggoth2588 said:This is my mindset. There are a ton of games that I like, a lot of games that I love but a 10/10 would imply perfection and I just don't believe in perfect as a concept, let alone as a standard anything can ever live up to. For every game that I would even consider as being "the best" or even as my favorite I wind up thinking up a flaw it has. I love Twilight Princess and Wind Waker but they both start off slowly and the later has the freaking Forsaken Fortress. Halo Reach is fantastic but like with every other game in the series, there are no real boss encounters and the space-flight sections feel like a tease more than anything (seriously, give me a Halo: Vehicular Combat game before Halo 6). Final Fantasy IX is fantastic but Amarant was a wasted character slot and Trance is mandatory when past games let me use a Limit Break when I wanted to. Fire Emblem Awakening and X-Com are both phenomenal but I hate losing a character in battle and level grinding doesn't seem to be an option in X-Com.jklinders said:No game is without some kind of flaw or another therefore no games hit that mark. I distrust media outlets who hand these ratings out like candy as they are pissing in my ear and calling it rain.
If something comes up that I cannot find some kind of flaw with over time then I will amend this.
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is probably the closest to a 10/10 that I would recommend. I love the characters and the way that you can take on most of the dungeons in any order but I've gone through better dungeons and why the Hell do I need to use the Zeldawiki to see what the bosses names are?! Out of all of the times I've needed to consult a Zelda Guide, checking boss names is just kinda sad.
My critiques above may seem like nit-picks but again, to me a 10/10 is a perfect score and perfect is...well...perfection. There may not be perfect games but that doesn't stop me from going back and playing games multiple times or else recommending what I've really liked.

I do sometimes. Life is Strange is basically a visual novel. The story and characters are the main reason I love The Last of Us; without Joel and Ellie, and Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson's amazing performances, TLoU would just be another 3rd person zombie shooter. In fact, most of my favourite games are heavy on story.B-Cell said:but who play games just for story??elvor0 said:You...but...people recommend that game for its story, not because it pushes the gameplay envelope. Looking at gameplay, sure looks like some dark gritty boring FPS we've seen 1000 of the last generation. Gameplay looks simple and un-interesting compared to other games, and it has multiplayer. Not a "pure SP FPS" with that on there.B-Cell said:\Stalker Shadow of chernoboyl - The most atmospheric, immersive experience and was truley unique and innovative game at that time. it was released at the time when FPS games getting stale. Zone is perfect universe. sadly sequel cancelled because of company problem. now GSC is active we might expect sequel.
Just curious, but what was the point you were trying to prove here- were you just ticked off my B-Cell dismissing other people's choices?Elvis Starburst said:Looking at gameplay, sure looks like some dark gritty boring FPS we've seen 1000 of the last generation. Point is that yeah, you can't make a thread saying "Hey! Discuss stuff!" and then just dismiss other people like that when they offer their opinions. That's what got his last thread locked. That's not discussion. "Who plays games for story?" he says later on. Lots of people :I I wasn't trying to come off as rude, just trying to show it doesn't go one way, and that that's not really a proper way to engage with others in your own thread.the December King said:Just curious, but what was the point you were trying to prove here- were you just ticked off my B-Cell dismissing other people's choices?Elvis Starburst said:Looking at gameplay, sure looks like some dark gritty boring FPS we've seen 1000 of the last generation. I think B-Cell uses the word 'Pure' like fundamental Christians use it - To describe something he doesn't think is gross and icky and makes him feel funny on the inside.Elvis Starburst said:Looking at gameplay, sure looks like some dark gritty boring FPS we've seen 1000 of the last generation. You really shouldn't. I've known him for years now and he's always been like that. Still not sure if he's simply trolling or not, heh.Elvis Starburst said:Should I just not bother? I'll stop if this is being a problem with anyone
Both of the games I listed as my 10/10 are not strong in the gameplay department and get the 10/10 BECAUSE their stories are so great and the gameplay is serviceable enough to not drag the game itself down.B-Cell said:but who play games just for story??
