hrmm....I don't think I have any that I would consider 10/10. One close to it I could say would be MGS3, a game which is more or less perfect, but the shooting outside of the methodical approach you get from stealth is awful, as is the camera in the original game, due to not being able to see a guard 2ft away due to an overhead view. If MGS3 had MGS5s controls? Oh baby.

The other one that I would pick that isn't my favourite game, but could potentially be the closest, would be Red Dead Redemption, now, I do have a lot of love for this game, but I can never really think of /any/ issues I have with the game when I try. The gunplay is satisfying, the story is great, characters are fun, world is interesting, exploration is rewarding, its paced really well, even the bit where you're dicking about in Mexico is kind of supposed to feel like you're dicking about to tie you to the narrative. To me, it's a really beautiful vertical slice love letter to the old west.

I really like how many people are mentioning Spec Ops: The Line. Didn't expect that.

.
I played it and quit it after hour. its just another cover based shooter. basically gears of war with sands. waste of time. they can make a shooter without wall cover.
You...but...people recommend that game for its story, not because it pushes the gameplay envelope. Having unique gameplay would actually be to the detriment of the game.

No game is without some kind of flaw or another therefore no games hit that mark. I distrust media outlets who hand these ratings out like candy as they are pissing in my ear and calling it rain.

If something comes up that I cannot find some kind of flaw with over time then I will amend this.
This is my mindset. There are a ton of games that I like, a lot of games that I love but a 10/10 would imply perfection and I just don't believe in perfect as a concept, let alone as a standard anything can ever live up to. For every game that I would even consider as being "the best" or even as my favorite I wind up thinking up a flaw it has. I love Twilight Princess and Wind Waker but they both start off slowly and the later has the freaking Forsaken Fortress. Halo Reach is fantastic but like with every other game in the series, there are no real boss encounters and the space-flight sections feel like a tease more than anything (seriously, give me a Halo: Vehicular Combat game before Halo 6). Final Fantasy IX is fantastic but Amarant was a wasted character slot and Trance is mandatory when past games let me use a Limit Break when I wanted to. Fire Emblem Awakening and X-Com are both phenomenal but I hate losing a character in battle and level grinding doesn't seem to be an option in X-Com.

Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is probably the closest to a 10/10 that I would recommend. I love the characters and the way that you can take on most of the dungeons in any order but I've gone through better dungeons and why the Hell do I need to use the Zeldawiki to see what the bosses names are?! Out of all of the times I've needed to consult a Zelda Guide, checking boss names is just kinda sad.

My critiques above may seem like nit-picks but again, to me a 10/10 is a perfect score and perfect is...well...perfection. There may not be perfect games but that doesn't stop me from going back and playing games multiple times or else recommending what I've really liked.
I agree with your points and will add one more that I forgot to mention in my own post.

A truly classic game is one that stands up after a few a years. These would be your true boundary pushers. I have found a few over time but even these had nits to pick so I would stop short of 10 on them. And let's be honest, a lot of games look or play like dogshit after only a couple of years including a lot of "perfect 10s"

Raises hand...

Okay, maybe not JUST for story, but story's a major factor for me in deciding what to play.

I do sometimes. Life is Strange is basically a visual novel. The story and characters are the main reason I love The Last of Us; without Joel and Ellie, and Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson's amazing performances, TLoU would just be another 3rd person zombie shooter. In fact, most of my favourite games are heavy on story.

Like many other posters have said a game doesn't need to be perfect to be a personal 10/10, for example I 'know' GTA V is 'better' in all respects to Vice City, but having grown up in the 1980's Vice's tribute/parody of all things 80's will always pip V (not by much maybe 9.9 to 10), that said onto my 10/10 picks for each era of my gaming life

Commodore 64 (mid 1980's to early 1990's) - Paradroid, just pure class, DropZone, basically Defender that didn't eat your pocket money

Amiga (early 1990's to late 1990's) - Dungeon Master, basically THE game of the D&D set at secondary school, Shadow of the Beast, maybe not the most complex game but it was proper hard and proper unfair, finishing it is still makes me feel a bit smug to this day

PS1 (late 1990's to early 2000's) - Vagrant Story, a creepy setting with an awesome combat system much more fun that the FF's of the era, Tony Hawk 2, the post-pub game during house-share part of my life

PC Master Race (early 2000's to date) Quake 3, the perfect Death Match shooter. Portal 2, short, sweet, awesomely designed. FTL, a lovable bastard of a game, again super slick and deep design. Dawn of War(s), again most likely not as 'good' as Starcraft but as a 40k fan seeing my little model men running about was funs and Last Stand mode was a stroke of brilliance

I've played a lot of greats. Here they are in no particular order:

Metal Gear Solid 3, Half Life 2, Bioshock, Persona 4: Golden (even I personally prefer 3, you can't deny 4 is the better game), Bloodborne, Super Mario Galaxy, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, Last of Us, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Ratchet & Clank 3, The Walking Dead, Undertale, Pokemon Black and White, Portal 2, Papers Please, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

None of them are perfect, but I don't believe in the attitude that only a perfect game should be considered a 10.

It's hard for me to think of 10/10 games. Even my favorite game series has enough flaws to prevent me from giving it that award. That said, there are two games that I would feel comfortable giving that award to.

The Walking Dead: Season 1: This one hit me emotionally more than most games I've played, and the characters felt like real people. The fact that there was no easy or right solution to any given problem was nice as well, and the lack of plot armor made the threat feel, well, threatening.

XCom: Enemy Unknown/Within: I don't like a lot of challenge in games. Some challenge, certainly, but most of the time, hard games just turn me off. For example, Dark Souls, where I got up to the gargoyles, then disregarded the game after looking for tips and being told it was one of the easier bosses. XCom is one of the few difficult games where getting stuck made me want to learn how to get better, and try again, made me feel that joy of taking down a massive UFO without a single casualty. In addition, the controls worked quite well, and outside of one or two quibbles (such as needing to upgrade every soldier's weapons individually after researching how to make new weapons), I found the game to be good enough to where I have logged 224 hours into it, and could still go back for more.

Mass Effect 3. It hit all the right buttons for me, in the end. I had some problems with the ending but the extended cut fixed them.

The game I'm playing right now Dark Souls 3 unless of course it suddenly gets shit in it's last couple of areas that I haven't done yet. (also it's worth mentioning I haven't had any of the technical issues that others have struggles with)

I wouldn't say it's flawless (I have a bunch of nitpicks and minor gripes with it) and I wouldn't require a game as huge as it is to be perfect for a 10/10. Its a masterpiece of its subgenre (which its predecessors created) and the most absorbed I've been in a game since maybe Undertale... another 10/10 game.

If i'd have to name a newer game it's definitly Undertale. I play games since 20 years and was only that blown away by games a handful of times in past. The storytelling and character design is the best i've ever seen in any game ever.
Then there's also the amazing OST and the beautfiul crafted pictures.

Binding of Isaac is another one. Again on the aspect of storytelling it does a great jobs of communicating a litteral and metaphorical story at the same time. There are an astonishing amount of layers inside the game.
And on the mechanical level it's the best rougelike game by far. The challanges and replay-value of the game is through the roof.

Other games that get 10/10 would be:
Portal 1
Halflife 2
Mass Effect 1
Gothic 2
Civ 2 + 5
Diablo 1+2
DotA/LoL
And many games of the Lucas Arts Adventure games. Monkey Island, Zak McKraken and Maniac Mansion + DotT

Edit: Dark Souls 1 would be on the list too, if i only judge it for singleplayer purposes. But multiplayer specially on PC was so ridden with hackers, backstabfishing and lags in general that in way to many cases it was barely playable.
The rest of the game is probably even 5/7.

\Stalker Shadow of chernoboyl - The most atmospheric, immersive experience and was truley unique and innovative game at that time. it was released at the time when FPS games getting stale. Zone is perfect universe. sadly sequel cancelled because of company problem. now GSC is active we might expect sequel.
Looking at gameplay, sure looks like some dark gritty boring FPS we've seen 1000 of the last generation. Gameplay looks simple and un-interesting compared to other games, and it has multiplayer. Not a "pure SP FPS" with that on there.
(You see how this goes both ways? Never even played Stalker, just trying to prove a point)

Honestly, OT, I dunno if there is a game I can call 10/10, cause there's always at least a decently big flaw with it where I can't feel confident giving it. 10/10 soundtracks for a game? Absolutely. Can rank off a few easily with that in mind

Just curious, but what was the point you were trying to prove here- were you just ticked off my B-Cell dismissing other people's choices?

Point is that yeah, you can't make a thread saying "Hey! Discuss stuff!" and then just dismiss other people like that when they offer their opinions. That's what got his last thread locked. That's not discussion. "Who plays games for story?" he says later on. Lots of people :I I wasn't trying to come off as rude, just trying to show it doesn't go one way, and that that's not really a proper way to engage with others in your own thread.

Edit: I'm the type of person who actually wants to see B-Cell offer up a good, lengthy discussion for the stuff he says, not just simple 1 note "this sucked, this sucked, and this sucked, and thus, it's shit." I simply wanna see some good back and forth discussion, but it's never, ever gotten to that point. Plenty of people, me included, have extended a hand in an offer for a discussion, and he's never agreed to it. I'm trying to reach out to a user to hopefully spur on some improvement.

Should I just not bother? I'll stop if this is being a problem with anyone

I think B-Cell uses the word 'Pure' like fundamental Christians use it - To describe something he doesn't think is gross and icky and makes him feel funny on the inside.

I thought of another 10/10 game though. Simple but engaging gameplay mechanics, likable characters, appealing visuals, a solid story line. I like it so much, I think about it often when I'm laying in bed before I sleep to inspire my dreams.

You really shouldn't. I've known him for years now and he's always been like that. Still not sure if he's simply trolling or not, heh.

Xenoblade Chronicles for the wii.

I cannot describe how good everything is in this game. Wonderful story, world characters. A fast paced combat system, where playing as different characters feel unique yet smooth. (Having visions about an enemy about to use an attack that will wreck your party but having time to counter it is awesome) Tons of content, the standalone story is 50-60 hours if you rush through the game, but it has an mmo sized level of quests and exploration to do. My first playthrough clocked at 120+ hours and my second/third playthrough were 80 hours+ as well. Geneuinely, I was sad when the game ended because I did not want to leave this world.

God bless operation downfall.

Both of the games I listed as my 10/10 are not strong in the gameplay department and get the 10/10 BECAUSE their stories are so great and the gameplay is serviceable enough to not drag the game itself down.

A game with no story is not a game I have any interest in playing and I'll overlook a LOT of gameplay issues if the grabs me by the feels and won't let go (see....well....both of my picks as well as just about any Telltale Game).

For me, let me think.

Dark Souls 2: What many consider the black sheep of the series, for me, I love this game. Part of the problem is that it is one of those games that just clicks with me, which in terms makes it difficult to explain why. Best I can offer you is this, I like the fact that their are more bosses in this then Dark Souls 1, the ability to kindle specific bonfires so that I can fight bosses again, the fact I can wear 4 rings and wield 3 items for the left and right hand, the fact that enimes stop spawning after 8 or so bonfire rests.

Veitcong: Full disclosure I am remembering this based on nostalgia, and I haven't played the game for a good 13 years. I remember playing the demo for this game when it came on a demo disk from either Electronic Gaming Monthly or PC Gamer. I used my allowance money to buy this game and I remember having fun with this game (save multiplayer since this was 2003 and lag was a *****). You were a Vietnam soldier and you had to survive the war where at the climax Charlie assaults your base with a T-64 tank and you had no anti-armor equipment relying on the F-4 to take them out.

The Long Dark: Early access so this is subject to change. This is just a game I go back to now and again, their is just something about it that takes hold with me that other survival games failed. What sucks is that I really can't explain why, it just clicks.

Warhammer 40,000 Battlefleet Gothic: HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS AWESOME. Ok, the fact that each faction really feels different and you can't really use the tactics that you use with the Imperium with the Eldar. This just scratches an itch I didn't think could be scratched since the navel combat of Assassins Creed 4.
