"What's this? Looks like some dumb Medieval Fantasy game thing, but it's on sale so..."
One week later:
"Mwahahah! ~I'm cutting down the villagers, cutting down the villagers, burning the village burn burn burn!~ My Empire will spread from the Tundras of the Vaegirs, to the Mountains of the Rhodoks! I will rule all! Charging into battle with Board shield and Bastard Sword in hand, cutting the enemy down one by one!"

GUN. That game was great, at least I thought so. Too bad you'd never get anyone to play it now, not after red dead came out. It's basically an earlier, albiet still amazing version of Red Dead. I really recommend it if anyone cares.

mass effect, the first one, the first time i saw it was in a store as a used game in the corner of the shelf, i picked it up, saw it was third person and made by bioware, and was goin for 15 bucks so i figured "meh, worth looking at at least.."

played it for an hour or so, kinda bored and found it to be a little dry

*goes play other games for 2 months*

"oh i haven't played this game much, i'll pop it in"

*takes 10 minutes to remember what i was doing and everything about the game*

"i guess i should go find out about this saren guy..."

...

*15 hours later*

"FUCKKK I LOVE THIS GAMEE! GIMEMEE MOOARRRRRRRR"

the first time i did the finale (in which i saved the council) i had the most epic stream of chills going down my back, that ending was fucking awesome.

correction, IS awesome.

I knew nothing of Dice or even multi-player gaming before that.

In the opinion of I, COD will never match up to battlefield gameplay wise.

Mass Effect 1

When it first came out (of coarse I wasn't as game centric then as I am now) a housemate of mine rented it and I watched him play it for a bit, and it looked like the most boring and tedious space opera dreck imaginable. I later came to the realization that this is just that housemate's fault because he played ALL games as tediously as he possibly could. Anyways, when I heard about ME2 about 6 months before it came out, I decided to try out ME1 for myself, so I went out and bought a used copy. Now I'm one of the biggest Mass Effect fanboys I know. Go figure.

I bought Hitman: Blood Money on a whim, thinking it would be something I would play for a couple hours, get bored/frustrated with, and never play again. Basically, a minor distraction. Boy, was I ever wrong. I am glad I was too.
After playing the original Hitman games, I was pretty much thinking Blood Money was going to be a 5 minute game, myself. I love it when I'm epicly wrong.

Otogi: Myth of demons.

I looked at the cover and thought it looked pretty lame and it took me some time before I even got into it. Now I freaking LOVE that game.

An older one called Battlezone 2. I'd never heard of it, just picked it up cheap at a garage sale. It turned out to be fucking awesome. Basically a real-time strategy game, but you actually controlled one of your units personally, so you could go out and kick some ass in a tank or even hike around on foot and snipe enemy drivers out of their cockpits. A decent story too. I should really try to find it again.

Alpha Protocol

The Nicholas Cage of recent games.

Even though it's surrounded by shit, it delivers a solid performance that you can enjoy.

... Portal 2. I didn't think it would be as good as Portal , but it blew me awaaaaaay. I think it was how you got to interact with the characters more ;/)

But mostly I fell in love with Wheatley.

Heavy Rain. It slipped under my radar because I heard nothing about it. Decided to pick it up just to see how it turned out (long after it's release.) Great stuff.

Nier. I just figured to rent it because I had a blockbuster rental monthly thing I think. My brother told me he got stuck with the fishing mini game that you had to do when he played it. But I figured it is an action RPG by squarenix so how bad can it be? Well, I played Nier and yes there was that fishing mini game they made you do, but I couldn't do it either, but after a certain number of tries the dude just catches the fish automatically. Is that why I thought the game was great? No, but it shows how the game is self aware in a sense most games aren't.

In Nier you go to the same areas over and over again around the same small town. You go can go on plenty of seemingly meaningless fetch quests. You get tons of items that you never really have to use. You have to do a text adventure game to go on with the game at a certain point. You're fighting an enemy that seems to be just 2 dimensional monsters while you're trying to save your poor daughter's life... Plenty of other story and gaming cliches as well in the game. At the half way point, you basically have to do all the same areas again for the second half of the game. Some dungeon with stupid puzzles that the characters complain about.

No. The the game isn't that cliche or bad. It is really a parody or satire of all these various cliche, tropes, or mechanics in the video games we experience. When you go on the meaningless fetch quests other characters comment on them about them. The text adventure game is constantly complained about by the character you're controlling and others. The monsters are actually
the true humans and by killing them you're actually dooming all of humanity. This is revealed partially near the end of the game and really hits home when you replay the second half of the game to get another ending. The character through the anger at the loss of his daughter ends up killing a boy and his friendly robot, a big armor human and his friends, and others who were just in the way.
The game even has a meta parody of demographics who play video games with how the main character depending on western or Japanese release was a different age.

If the game isn't a parody or satire, it is maybe the only video game that is so bad it is good like some movies are.

Def Jam: Fight for NY

Not into rap or wrestling so really didn't exspect much from this title, how wrong I was.
Played through it mult times just to make every combo of fighter there was.

Another one for me and a rather obscure one at that.

Earth Defence Force 2017

My god, that game is just pure pulp. I mean, it has repetitive gameplay.
The graphics are pretty laughable, the enemies are retarded, the maps are nothing to write home about.
But the sheer fun factor of blowing up so many giant ants with absurd weapons is HUGE!
I actually recently started playing it again for old time sake.
Still as much fun! Even more so in co-op actually. :p
