Hello my fellow Escapees, I'm here to pose a question: Are there any games out there that you didn't enjoy, even though you would otherwise enjoy the premise/story/gameplay/characters? For instance, say you're a hug fan of Space, RTS's, aliens, online play, [sub][sub][sup]Warhammer 40k ripoffs[/sup][/sub][/sub] and modiblility, yet you simply can not stand playing Starcraft? Why do you think it is you don't enjoy these games? What about them should you have liked?

I personally am a fan of large battles, character customization, slightly-more-then-modern aesthetics and First Person shooters. However, I simply DO NOT enjoy MAG. My theory is that because higher-level players get far better equipment, and there are very few ways to gain experience, you have to grind for a LONG time before you can feel important on the battle field. A friend of mine and fan of the game tried to justify it by saying "Well a really quick way to get experience is to buy the healing tool and focus on healing teammates instead of shooting." And this struck a nerve. Essentially I have to do a lot of repeatitive, boring tasks before I can actually start having fun, and that is the PERFECT way for me to lose interest in a game.

So come one come all, share your stories and examples. All I ask is that everyone keep a civil tongue, thank you ^^

I definitely should've loved Brink, my reasoning for this is because I loved both Enemy Territorys (hell the first one is definitely in my top 10 of all time) but Brink just did not work for me.

Company Of Heroes. It's hard to explain why I thought I would like it, but at the end of the day, it tended to be really restrictive to any playstyle besides frantic RTS micromanagement motherfuckery. I was kinda hoping it wouldn't be, but that's my own fault, so I don't hold it against the game.

Bulletstorm. I know I should have loved the hell out of the over the top ultraviolence, but...I don't know, it was like it was just too over the top, to the point that I quickly became numb to how awesome some of the killshots really were.

I was honestly surprised that I didn't like <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.237875-Neutral-Drow-reviews-Crescendo>Crescendo as much as I'd expected to. Most of the routes simply had one or two fatal flaws that poisoned my opinion afterwards (two were too short, one had astoundingly incomplete resolution, and one had a messed-up aspect of the premise).

Also, it might be cheating, but...Bastion. Don't get me wrong, I loved the gameplay, and in retrospect the story wasn't bad at all. But I simply can't understand why everyone keeps praising it for melding story and gameplay. It did the exact opposite for me, and I could barely enjoy the story until the very last level because I kept wishing the narrator would shut up already. I basically start out immersed, so having someone essentially read the story at me while I'm playing it (with the ongoing unconscious implication that my actions, no matter how odd, have already happened and therefore don't mean anything) was unbelievably jarring.

For me it would definately be the witcher, both of them. I love a good rpg game and with all i heard about the first one i was hoping for a good time. The game was "ok" and for some it's great i guess but i didn't get over 5 hours before i got bored. The second kept my interest longer but it still got me bored way too early.

I think the main reason for both of them were simply the fact that i hated the main character Geralt, for some reason which i can't put my finger on.

I guess Resident Evil since I love zombie films, but to be fair that game has one of the worst controller schemes ever and the story is kinda stupid, also Twilight Princess, I mean it's Zelda and it plays like Zelda and it's not bad but for some reason that game annoys me, maybe it's just the fact that I played it on the wii and I didn't really like that controller scheme.

I thought, for the longest time, that I would love JRPGs. Specifically those in the vein of Final Fantasy. More specifically, those with menu-driven combat (Attack, Select, Run, etc.).

Turns out I can't stand it for more than a little while. I understand that this isn't due to any fault with the game(s); it's just not a style I'm interested in.

Very much hate the game Kingdom Hearts. Everything about it sounded great and I couldn't wait to pop in my PS2. Now don't get me wrong, I love the idea and enviroments of the game. Yeah its just a poor mans brawler with no real strategy thrown in. So bored just tapping the same button over and over again and not really dodging anything. All it made me think of were the the good brawlers I could be playing right now. Yeah God of War, Devil May Cry, Double Dragon, Turtles in Time, anything but this. Really have no idea why the game gets so much praise when the combat is so god damn crappy.
2 had better combat and weirdly enough the game has some ridiculously hard boss fights (Sephiroth or the Phantom anyone?)

I am thus far not really enjoying the OoT remake on the 3DS. Has nothing to do with the 3D or the system, I'm just not compelled to do anything in the game. Actually prefer Twilight Princess.

When did you start playing? I've had it since release date, and no longer play due to the community, and never had a problem with Experience. I am a sniper. No healing anyone. Especially since 2.0 they began to make it more "Forward assault wins everything forever" kind of game.

For me it is FPS games in general. I loved the older shooters. Grew up with them. But Since I first played Halo I can't stand the new shooters...And this was before it was "Cool" to hate on games cause of popularity. I actually came up with an opinion on why I thought the game sucks without anyone talking to me about it and not reading a single thing on the internet.
About when it came out. I borrowed it from a friend.

Sonic 06.

I was a huge fan of the Sonic Adventure series at time, so I was expecting a great game out of this. Unfortunately though, it didn't live up to my expectations and instead decided to shit on my face.

KOTOR. It's made by Bioware and it takes place in the Star Wars Universe. Should have been awesome. However, after two hours of play, I realized:
A)Shooting and stealth work terribly in this game, and

B)The Star Wars universe is boring when there aren't any lightsabers, space battles, or force powers involved.

Haven't picked it back up since.

Warhammer40k Space Marine. I like the W40k universe, I have been known to have fun with the kind of game Space Marine is. But not with Space Marine. Not sure why. Combat seems ok, nice good aesthetic, good pacing. And yet, the game bores the hell out of me.

I'm still trying so hard to like it, but someday I'll probably have to admit to not really liking Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I guess that's what I get for basing a game's worth entirely on the looks of the main character. He's just so damn sexy though! And honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that he is so goddamn sexy, I wouldn't be trying to like the game as hard as I am.
