Hey escapist have you ever played a game and thought it was bad, but each time you play it seems to get better? I have, two games i disliked at first were (please dont hate me for this) Bioshock and Mass Effect, I learned to like Bioshock as its atmosphere, setting,Presentation and story were all top notch, unfortunatly the gameplay lagged a bit, by no means was it bad it just felt like it wasnt as good as it could have been (im talking about the guns not the plasmids), Mass Effect on the other hand i still havent gotten into yet, i rented it out last year and dismissed it as another overrated game but with the imminent release of ME2 and all the cool stuff shown i decided that maybe i should've given Mass Effect more of a chance, unfortunatly i cant cus my xbox controllers broken =(

You don't have to apologise for not liking a game
[small]but not liking a certain book whose title may or may not be WWZ is punishable by death[/small]

Uncharted, Took me a while but I got into it towards the end.
And Halo 3, I thought it picked up a lot of momentum, begining on a low note and ending on a high.

Dragon Age: Origins.

I thought the combat was really boring at first, and I hated the graphics... considered trading it in immediately on the first day.

Now... I... I can't stop playing...

Oddly for me, it was Saint's Row. I didn't immediately play this game after it was released, and I got my hands on it shortly after playing GTA 4. After playing GTA 4 for so long, I was a little burned out on that genre, so I didn't give SR a fair shake and only played the insurance frauds (mostly because they were worth a good laugh). I came back to it a few months later after giving some space to it and started to warm up to the story and the playing style, finding myself actually enjoying it instead of mentally comparing it to GTA the whole time. Then of course I jumped at the chance to play Saint's Row 2 when it was released and enjoyed that as well. The differences between the two (SR and GTA) make them both fun experiences, and don't really have a lot in common. I was actually mad at myself for assuming they were ripping each other off, and that I didn't give SR a fair shake when I first played it.

Viva Pinata. Im not kidding. It is a childs game in all aspects, but my grandma got it for my sister for her birthday. I decided to play it for shits and giggles. Everything was laughable, the punny names for the pinatas, the punny names for the NPCs. Then it got challenging as I started to make my farm. Trees had to be water, fertilized, special care for most profit. To get other pinatas I had to raise others. Quickly the depth to it showed a while still relaxing game, it had much to offer to also be entertaining.

ODST.

Started playing, thought it was crap.

Then, whilst exploring a deserted city in the middle of the night, all alone save for the aliens trying to kill you, I heard the music.

And it was like "BOOM!"

Atmosphere explosion!

Modern Warfare 2. I still don't like it all that much, but whenever I run into some scrub-ass newb that can't dodge grenades, it makes me feel a little bit better about the game.

Well, when I first started Fallout 3, I had a hard time getting used to it (probably something to do with me not leveling like I should and being a low level) so I made a different character and tried again. I just put all my first points into small guns and had a blast, and that let me get deeper into the looting of random buildings and such.

Fallout 3. The shooting was - and still is to an extent - a constant annoyance. The start of that game is also pretty unforgiving and I died quite a lot before I started getting to grips with the gameplay.

The strange thing with Fallout 3 is that the gameplay is genuinely not the best thing about it. In fact, from my point of view, it's one of the worst things about it. But it's still a terribly compelling game that I ended up sinking a lot of my time into.
