I have to play almost every RTS on easy. I'm a pretty fail strategist. I also usually play Oblivion with the difficulty slider a few steps below medium.

As everyone else says, there are certain parts of Dragon Age that I found to be literally unbeatable until I put it on easy mode on my first play-through as a mage. The first time was at the very beginning of the game in Lothering, where you had to kill a bunch of bandits that had some Mabaris with them, and the second time was in the final few boss fights, the one in the elven quarter, that I tried about...16-20 times before I finally relented to turning the difficulty down. He was completely invulnerable to magic and yet could dish it out himself, so he easily wiped my single melee fighter before the horde at his side went and overwhelmed us. My entire strategy at the time depended on my blood mage holding the big group and then all of them would target who they need to target and it was extremely easy right up until then. I almost completely stopped playing, then, but I went back a month later and finished it.
Also, I have a lot of trouble with God of War. It's not hard as much as it is incredibly annoying-you have to hit every single fucking enemy hundreds of fucking times for them to finally die, and then another twenty come at you ten minutes later. It's so god damn frustrating when you can't kill these little dog things after ten stupid hits and there's twenty of them performing unblockable attacks constantly.

agreed with everyone saying Dragon Age. Good god, that game hates me sometimes. Though, I would like it stated I played the majority of the game on normal, but if I keep losing the exact same encounter again and again, I will knock it down to easy. But yea, it sometimes feels like the random mobs in that game are harder than the actual bosses.

EDIT- I cannot believe I forgot X-Com. All three of the "real" x-com games I HAD to play on beginner, and even then I could never beat UFO defense or terror from the deep. I did beat apocalypse, though.
*holds hand up for same reason*

I could not believe the sudden jerkiness of the difficulty curve... fucking Cult of Andraste...
I swear, I got my ass handed to me to wear as a fine leather hat every time I reached the temple.
Fucking berserkers.... I gave it my best shot, but the combat in that game hates me and everything I stand for.

Very weird... I hope they fixed that in Awakenings o_O

Had to play KotOR on easy, I tried the harder difficulties but failed miserably.
I never liked how I made the game feel like a breeze, really regretted that.
I was able to beat the Taris section of the game and Dantooine on hard, but those dark jedi on tatooine just ripped me a new one.

Well, on Omega Boost they only have normal and hard, I played normal and am still trying to do hard. So I guess that?

Dante's Inferno - Those siamese-golden-mace-wielding-thinges kept spinning around like merry-go-rounds gone wild, and they are hard as hell to dodge!

Fucking Far Cry

Giant levels, no quicksave, mercenaries with telescopic vision, mutant monkeys that can leap 30 feet and kill you with one swipe, and no pussy regenerating health if you made the smallest screw-up.

As Yahtzee would say, it's Crysis with some serious balls.

Dragon Age Origins as well. I didn't lower the difficulty though, I just cheated like mad. Create gold to buy the best equipment then duplicate all the skill books several times to bump my stats and learn the strongest spells and skills.

Oh, and Mount and Blade. Again I cheat by a large amount in that, but mostly to make the game more fun. I prefer thinking of my guy as a living god in that game sent to take castles singlehandedly.

And Oblivion when I think about it, I don't make myself invincible or anything though, I just give myself a good head start. That way I can do things a bit easier and not have to grind a massive amount.

So I'm playing Metro 2033. If that isn't reason enough, I'm on a laptop, so my framerate hits 5 FPS every time an actor appears onscreen. I had to crank the difficulty down like mad.

So, what game have you had to admit defeat to and lower the difficulty on?

The non-hardware related example I have is the final battle in vanilla Oblivion. No spoilers from me, but man, I've yet to figure out how to do it on regular difficulty.
Really? You're not trying to actually kill Akatosh yourself are you? That'd be silly.

I would never admit resort to changing a difficulty to easy, since I am so totally hardcore (whatever that means).

But if I were to change difficulties in a game - hypothetically speaking, of course - it would be in Dragon Age: Origins. I loathe the combat system and others like it, that real-time/turn-based hybrid typically found in MMOs and KoTOR and the like. As such, I suck at running up and trying to beat monsters senseless, especially when dragons devastate my entire party in one fell swoop.

As do I, because it's bloody boring to smack a troll with your sword 300 times.

Dragon Age has the strangest difficulty. Sometimes Normal is brutal, easy is pathetic to the point there is no satisfaction or thrill of victory, and Hard can be cake.

It just spikes around all over the place. Seems to balance out a little as you level up but it still annoyed me. Some enemies and encounters just don't seem balanced very well. I dislike Diablo-esque potion chain chugging game mechanics. Or spam healing..

I'm playing Dragon Age at the moment and I've never played a game of the same style, like KOTOR or Baldur's Gate etc. I'm awesome at Mass Effect but the combat is very different
Anyway, I really keep struggling on each boss I reach. Currently fighting Jarvia (I think that's her name) on her gang hideout and I cannot get past her, but if I lower the difficulty to 'casual' I'll feel like a complete failure, so I just have to suffer and be stuck
There was an article about it here, that persuaded me to play DA on casual. It really does make it more enjoyable, since I dont really like the combat in the game, but I love everything else.

I usually play on normal but I'll play on easy if it's more fun or I just want to get through them quickly.
