games you hate that everyone seems to love (keep your rage contained!)

I've been wanting to get this stuff out of my system for a while so I decided to make a thread about it). In this thread you can shout at every game people seem to like and you just hate for some reason. Tell us why it's shit!

I think Call of Duty is the most fucking boring thing ever. It rehashes old shooter mechanics with a new skin for setting. The series does feature some cool setpieces in it's storyline, but has lame boring characters and singleplayer campaign is so short it's ridiculous. I can see how it would be fun when you play it for the first time and get hooked on the multiplayer, but it is beyond me how people keep paying retail price on the first day so they can play the "new" multiplayer. Which usually consists out of some new maps, some new weapons and one or two new gimmicks(if any at all).

I think Gears of war was a shitty RE4 rip-off with the chainsaw in the hands of the wrong character. I think every characters is unlikeable, the gameplay was like RE4 with a crappier level design to me. and I hate the macho grittyness of it.

I think RE5 is/was the downfall of the Resident evil series. RE4 was unexpectedly great even though they changed the formula. But RE5 was neither scary nor exciting/threatening. It felt like a lazy sequel with many uninspired Ideas and delivered a neck shot to a series I loved. I don't know if RE6 can fix it, but it saddens me alot.

I think Infamous was boring as hell. The climbing was pretty okay but the city was boring, Cole's special powers grew stale incredibly quickly. The death animations on every characters where the same which made it grow stale faster. I didn't care for the storyline at all.

I hate Halo. I can see the fun in the multiplayer (even though I never really got into it) but the main storyline feels and looks shitty. The combat feels lame and the design bores me to no end. Also I feel like master chief started off the faceless macho protagonist bullshit and hate it!

I don't get why people like New Vegas either. I played FO3 and after some getting into I really loved it. On the other hand got bored as hell within an hour or two and think it's boring and ugly (I know FO3 was ugly too, but i found it still had it's charm and that New Vegas doesn't)

I'm sorry if I come off as a tad of a complaining downer. But I usually never voice this hate and felt that if we had a separate thread for it we could vent this stuff instead of trolling other fans with our (biased?) opinion.

Oblivion! It's so bad for so many reasons, chief among them being the lack of anything worthwhile to explore. The only good thing about it was the hit mechanics, and even that is only good if you compare it to Morrowind.

I second Oblivion for the reasons Kahunaburger stated

and i'm also really bored in Skyrim atm. Crappy characters, and very few worthwhile things to find in the (admittedly huge and good looking) gameworld. Don't understand how anyone could've considered it goty at any point

Anything made by Valve. They are average in my book. Portal and the first Half-Life were fun, even the second Portal was cool. I don't think they are as good as everyone makes them out to be. Just saying bad things about them has everyone jumping down your throat and accusing you of trolling.
That must suck for you. As a fan of HL2 + eps and portal + portal 2 I also feel the urge to disagree with you. but seeing as you find it average I can't see why people would be upset with you. It sounds like you just have an honest and well thought out opinion on the matter.

I've got to second the entire Halo franchise - struggled to stay interested in the first, couldn't be bothered to finish the second, and only completed the third because of a friend wanting to play co-op. Reach, Wars, etc don't interest me at all.

I don't get it - I don't find the story interesting, the gameplay mechanics aggravate me, and I find the multiplayer seriously subpar to games like MW3 and BF3 (and lets be honest, that's saying something).

Gears of War definitely. It just feels like a slow clunky mess.

I don't "hate" any games. I generally dislike some and some I don't see how they got as big as they have.

Minecraft - Bored the absolute arse off me.

Call of Duty - I've tried them, i've seen them all. None of them are particularly memorable. Yeah it's fun for a bit of mindless shooting for a few hours but after that .. well .. not so much.

Portal - Enjoyed it for a few hours, it's a fun little game and bit different. I don't think it's the greatest thing to ever happen to gaming as some seem to proclaim it. It's a novelty.

Half Life - It played pretty well and had some interesting characters but the story just didn't "grip" me so I couldn't get into it.

Now i'm not saying any of the above are bad games, obviously they can't be seeing as they have millions of fans/players, they just aren't to my taste.

But over the years my tastes have changed. I used to love 2D fighting games (was a massive Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat fan), I used to love 2D side scrolling beat'em'ups (Streets of Rage style) and I was a massive fan of FPS from the original Doom right up to Unreal Tournament that I played until 2002 (we had a pretty decent team in the league).

Now I just prefer to relax a bit more with an RPG or Dungeon Crawlers.

Every single game ever.

Especially that one you love.

Also, The Witcher 2.

Dark Souls is steadily approaching this list as well.

EDIT:Oh, and while I'm at it, every Resident Evil ever.

You should be able to bad mouth a company on a gaming website and not get shit for it. I have to listen to gamers ***** and whine about Capcom, Squaresoft, Konami all the time. They did nothing but push out one good game after another back in the day. All people do on here is focus on the shit they are doing right now. Yeah it sucks, I am pissed off about it. I don't jump down peoples throats everytime they do it. As far as I am concerned,... SNIP
I disagree alot with your views on Valve. But I do wonder, which games did scratch your creative itch? And which companies do you consider good enough to be on the big boys table? Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft?

mmm Gears of War, I played the first one on the PC and it wasn't very good, yet some how it got huge acclaim. I've tried the second one on a friends xbox and I didn't see anything to recommend it either.

The characters are just so laughable, I face palmed so hard when I was the main character. I was like 'that's not a person that's the hulk in flesh tones' and don't get me started on the story. The entire franchise was mediocre to bad yet it sold soo well and I am still baffled at this.

Psychonauts: Terrible gameplay with the plot and humour of a kid's cartoon.
Skyrim: A great example of poor game design, riddled with dull npcs and repetitive dungeons.
Also, I played about half an hour of Mass Effect 2 and it was incredibly dull. I couldn't even last 5 minutes of Halo 3.

What you hate every game ever? Dafaq?

Wel let's put that aside pretty much anything by valve that is not half-life 1 especially tf2 is one of the most over-rated games ever.

1. Nintendo
2. Interplay
3. Capcom
4. Konami
5. Namco
6. Blizzard
7. Rockstar
8. Sega
9. Square Enix
10. Shiny Entertainment

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I don't Hate Valve, I am not a fan either. They are meh to me. Like a package of stale hotdogs. I will still eat them because I am hungry, but I would rather have something else.

DO you want my top ten favorite games?
Certainly! I think it's fun comparing tastes without constant bitter flaming everywhere, even if there's genuine dislike for a game or developer. Alot of your top 10 would show up in my own. (even though Valve would certainly be in there)
