Have you guys ever had a game you couldn't get into and maybe even hated but after waiting a while and trying again you come to find out you loved or at least like the game. If so what game is this for you.

Mine was persona 4 at first I hated it because it felt grindy but I gave it another try later on and played it all the way through for 110 hours and still plan on doing a second playthrough

The Darkness. I was amazed by how good the storytelling was, and the effort put into establishing a believeable relationship between Jackie and Jenny... but shit the controls pissed me off. I'm not much of a console FPS guy anyway, but I just couldn't take its loose, floaty controls. I gave up within 60-90 mins. I tried again a few months later... same thing. I tried again about a year and a half later, turned down the difficulty and the control sensitivity, and powered through it. Good game.

Also, I hated Deus Ex: Invisible War with a passion upon release. Hell, upon demo release. Years later, with some config file tweaks and an open mind, I discovered that it's not so bad. I actually put it at the same level as Human Revolution... still a far cry away from the original Deus Ex, of course.

FF XII. The first time through, the entire gambit system drove me nuts because it wasn't useful or intuitive to the degree I wanted it to be. The second time through, I used the most rudimentary gambits possible and just did all commands manually except for healing. I then proceeded to put 100 hours into the rest of the game

I hated Dragon Age: Origins the first time I played it. For some reason or another I decided to give it another chance and next thing I knew I had beaten it three times. It must be some kind of wizard.

I still hate it's combat though, my god it is boring. That's just my opinion though.

Fallout 3 was mine.

I got it for 360 shortly after it was released, played it for 2-3 hours, thought "well this sucks" and never played it ever again on the Xbox.

2 or so years later I discovered it on Amazon for PC GOTY Edition for £13, so I thought I'd give it another chance (2 years before this point I didn't have a gaming PC to play it on). I ended up completing the main story, a bunch of the side missions, and the only DLCs I missed were Mothership Zeta and The Pitt, because Fallout DLC is just the worst in my opinion, but that's not relevant here.

I absolutely hated the Witcher 2, I felt the controls were extremely annoying, the game constantly crashed on my computer and the combat bored me to tears. *click click click click*

However, I came back after the proper tutorial was released and I learnt a few new things that weren't even mentioned in the awful original tutorial and I just fell in love with it. Now it's one of my favourite RPG's.... Ever... Especially chapter 2.. How epic (Not so much chapter 3)

I didn't like FF8. It was a load of crap. And...it still was when I tried to play it again. So yeah. Some of these really ARE crap.

hmmm i feel the same way I guess I will have to try your method. did you also have your attack nearest gambit used or did you choose that too.

When did they release a better tutorial. Do you know if they improved performance at all with patches.

I couldn't agree with you more if I tried.

Well they originally had the horrible tutorial when you were fighting in the Castle, then they released one where you fought through an arena style set up and they taught you all the moves and how to use traps etc. I'm not sure if that's the one you're referring to.

Also, I always crashed during the escort bit just before you entered Flotsam for the first time. I don't know if they did anything but it never crashed a single time after I went back to try it for the second time.

Oh sorry mate, I have had no fps issues with the game whatsoever :/ Sorry that I couldn't help more, it really is a fantastic game once you get into it.

Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. I just couldn't get into it. The dungeons were tedious, the battle system was slow, demon communication was tedious, the encounter rate was way too high.

Many years later I played Persona 3 and it resparked my interest. I decided to give EP another go. Took some patience but I ended up loving the game. Now it is easily in my top 10 list of favorite RPGs of all time.

I was thinking about this the other day and there are a fair few `classic` games I hated when I first played but later tried again and actually found them to be really good such as:-

FFVI - yup really didnt like it when it first came out I just found it incredibly boring but years later after playing and immensely enjoying FFVII I went back to try it again and found it to be quite a good game.

Ocarina of Time - another game I played for about an hour when it was released and just disliked it really I just could not see what all the fuss was about (still cant really) but went back to it after finishing windwaker and did actually enjoy it enough to finish it.

Baldurs Gate series - played one didnt like it (still dont) tried 2 didnt like it (probably bad memories of 1) tried the second one again a few months later and really liked it (after I got out of that damn dungeon) dont know why guess thats how it goes sometime.

Dissidia Duodecim - I persevered on this one and now it is probably my second favourite game on the PSP but the first 10 hours or so were just painful I just couldnt figure out the flow of the game, at the time though I was in a situation where it was either watch crappy daytime tv or keep playing.

Mario 64 - tried playing this so many times and I still dislike it.

Skies of Arcadia Legends - Really really disliked the first 2 hours or so of this game so stopped playing. Couple of weeks later I decide to give it another go before completely signing it off and my opinion on it does a complete 180 the world map in this game is still my favourite of any RPG ever (unless you count Xenoblade Chronicles areas as world map).

Duke Nukem 3D. For some reason it gave me a really bad headache and a fever. It still gives me a headache.

Vanquish, I don't exactly hate it but all the "whizz bang wahey" funtimes gives me the worst migrane ever within 2 minutes of gameplay.

But fuck is it awesome.

More relevant would be Dark Souls, bought it pre-patch and loathed the fuck out of it. As in "gave up just after the dragon fucking instakills you." I tried it again way after the patch and hey suddenly having and using Humanity isn't a huge effort anymore! So that's always good.

Though i'm considering lobbing it straight into a skip purely because of Ceaseless Discharge and Sen's Fortress (still stuck on the latter)

Sen's Fortress is definitely when the game says "Fuck you, you ain't got shit son!"

When there are pendulum axe traps on a narrow bridge that when you get knocked off, if the fall doesn't kill you, the two fuck off demons down there will. If by some miracle you get to the ladder you get to start all over again! Oh and there're wizards taking potshots at you the whole time and there's an enemy on the narrow bridge inbetween the swinging blades.

The game wants you to give up and go home at this point. I was all too happy to oblige

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time, I was very little when I first tried to play this game and after about an hour of not knowing where the sword was I quit it. Later on however I got this game again and played it to the end with my brother.
