I'd have to say Krusty's Funhouse on the Genesis, couldn't get past some level where they gave you a seemingly insufficient amount of blocks.

The Prince of Persia for the PS2.
I just couldn't get past that damn light mirror level... And I was SO close to the end too. Damn.
just pay attention to where you end up after you enter a door. if the screen flashes you chose wrong and you're back at the start; but if the screen just moves to another door with you exiting it, then you were right. rinse and repeat til the correct sequence is found.

Resident Evil 4, not because of difficulty but because the game designers got bored two thirds of the way through and just started recycling the same damn corridors again and again. After the brilliance of the earlier level desgin i decided to cut my losses and not have my happy memories be soiled by continuing any further.

(The final boss of)The Last Remnant for xbox 360. That games is orrifice-violation printed on 4 discs. No matter what I did, the outcome would always be the same humiliating death over and over again Q_Q. Playing TLR is like giving someone 60euros to kick you in the balls. Repeatedly.
I know your pain... Grind grind grind, that is all the advice I can give
Grinding seems rather depressing when the game has an enemy scaling system : (

Silent Hill 2 it was just too scary I made it just past the hospital.

EDIT: Just to give an example of how scary this game was to me I beat Dead Space without even flinching.

ninja gaiden 2 is the only game that i couldnt beat it's just hard even the easiest setting is ridiculously difficult.
I don't find Ninja Gaiden 2 too hard on easy not that it still isn't hard.
Two games I've never finished though which some might laugh at is Megaman and Megaman 8 in those to I'd always just die at the very last bosses.

I've also yet to beat Street Fighter 4 arcade on a Hard or Hardest without using Zangeif's little "cheat" cause the AI is so aggressive it just runs into his fists

Mirror's Edge has to be the only one I haven't beaten, aside from numerous games I rented and didn't beat by the due date (I don't count those, I can always rent them again and continue on). I'm stuck at the last level where the guy with the machine gun is in the middle of the friggin' room with no cover around you. I COULD kill him with a gun, but I'm going for the no gun achievement, damn it's annoying.

I know. This should help. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=118750
It helped me beat the absolute conquer. Had to restart the game though.

I'm finding the last few levels of Prototype to be extremely difficult.

Ok, infiltrate that enemy base. The one surrounded by alarms. And toxic gases. And the dozens of soldiers. Did we mention super soldiers? And the perimeter has mini-gun turrets. And surrounding those turrets are tanks. And there's that rogue helicopter flying around the sky. He'll call 3 more helicopters for back-up if you are detected. And more UAV alarms. Oh, and when you finally are in the military base, you are going to need to BLOW UP the 8 toxic gas emitors. So I hope you don't mind losing your disguises.

...

The story missions can go fuck themselves...

And this is only the first part to the mission...

AND THERE ARE 2 MORE TO GO AFTER IT!

Mine is more out of boredom and control annoyance.

Extermination on the PS2. Think of an early Resident Evil clone with more gunfighting and you have a good idea of the game.
Extermination is actually a pretty passable game. The Thing is a better example of a horrible Res Evil clone. Had so much promise, didn't live up to any of it.

Countless games I couldn't finish out of boredom with them. The GTA series for one, most newer JRPGs that aren't in the Shin Megami Tensei series or FF12. For difficulty though? Still trying to finish Professor Layton, but some of the puzzles are so frustrating and make you feel like a moron. =( I did both Gears of War on insane without co-op and beat DMC3 on Dante Must Die (INSANELY HARD, screw Heaven or Hell mode), but Professor Layton cuts me down to size.

I've never been in a situation where i've kept trying and trying to beat something, because very high difficulty just puts me off a game completely, so I either cheat or give up. I'm sure that still counts though.

This would be pretty much 90% of games from the fifth generation of gaming and before (games we're a lot harder back then :O)

Even though I got to the point where I could rush through games such as Mega Man 2,Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Ninja Gaiden (NES)and Street Fighter 2010 and I pretty handily completed games I wasn't too fond of such as Bubsy for the sake of completionism, I never could figure out Battle Toads for some reason. That's one one and only game that I could not beat. If I didn't finish something else, it is likely that I lost interest in it before I could.

CoD 4 was traumatizing for this.

Half life seris, keep getting stuck but the puzzles are easy and final fantasy 10, I was only around seven when I played the game so didn't put much effort in playing it
