As of late I have been looking at games that are a little older and/or a little obscure. It may be the "whole stagnation of gaming" thing that everyone keeps talking about but Im actually a man of almost all genres (exceptions being most puzzle games and realistic sports). Little did I expect that when I start decribing or showing some of the games I have been playing recently I get confused looks or my friends shaking their heads and saying the games you play. Me describing Sakura Wars-So Long My Love ended in my friend saying "and you bought this why?", Jet Set Radio Future let to my friends and family being confused by the obscure music and graphics, and I was just bought Clock Tower 3 being a huge Survival Horror fan and really enjoying it...then my roommate comes in and says this game looks really boring then asked me if he could play battlefield bc2 (my game as well). So escapeists do any of you feel like this? Any games you like and get confused looks about even from other gamers?

Alpha Protocol, Knights of the Old Republic (this one is legitimately popular, I know, but all my friends hated it), and Defcon.

Space Station Silicon Valley was a game for the N64 that I consider the precursor to GTA (Body Harvest could also be considered this) and was about a microchip from a crashed spaceship that could possess the bodies of dead animals to solve puzzles. and it was awesome but for some reason not even game collectors seem to know about this one.

Edit: I don't know what happened to the picture on the original post fixed now.

Brutal Legend. When you understand how to play it it's absolutely fantastic and an awesome take on the RTS genre, but with limited explanations and tutorials, a lot of people got into the Starcraft mindset and tried to micromanage their way to victory, completely ignoring the massive fuckoff battleaxe in their hands and the incredibly powerful double team attacks that the whole campaign had spent hammering into them. The fact that EA refused to let Double Fine admit there were RTS elements didn't help either.

If you like games that actually dare to step out from the crowd and do something different, I'd seriously recommend giving Brutal Legend a shot. Run through the campaign, keeping in mind that in the stage battles, you are the most powerful unit, and any time you spend in the air doing nothing, rather than double teaming, playing solos, or killing stuff with your axe and guitar, is wasted. Then if/when the action strategy gameplay clicks with you, try a couple of games on multiplayer. Since I started playing online last summer, it's become my favourite multiplayer game of all time, and has barely left my 360 since then.

Hostile Waters. A brilliant action/strategy game released in 2001 that the gaming press loved but virtually no-one bought it. I was one of the lucky ones.

You are given command of ship with nano-creation engines that allow you to scavenge scrap/wreckages for energy and use that energy to make tanks/helicopters etc. You also get a limited number of AI personalities to control these units for you. With it, you must stop a cabal of Bond style villians by doing various missions on the pacific islands they have created (yes, created), which usually involves destroying stuff.

I have read that it is similar to Carrier Command, if you have heard of it, only Hostile Waters is mission based. But I haven't played Carrier Command.

While they are popular I get eyerolls and sexist comments for playing Okami, Pikmin, and Sims3, since apparently only girls and 12-and-under boys play those games.

Enemy Terittory Quake Wars, its one of the best multiplayer games of the decade yet hardly anyone has heard of it because Activision decided to release it the same month as COD4.

That was actually the first game that I bought for my Gameboy Color, it was freakin' awesome :)
- When I played [Prototype] for the first time, the "taking over bodies" part reminded me of this game.

ET:QW is one of the best team based multiplayer shooters I have ever played, me and my friends still enjoy it a lot at LAN parties :)

Ya I had heard of it and thought it was so cool to see how drastically different the the stuff DMA did before GTA3/becoming Rockstar North. I would fall over dead if they made a SSSV or Body Harvest sequel instead of a new gta. Gaming would drastically change..again.. because of Rockstar
