Games you like in genres you hate

I play quite a few different genres - MMOs, FPSs, RPGs, 3rd person action adventure, RT Strategies etc etc... but there's a couple of genres I've never gotten into. Even then there's rare exceptions to that rule.

Bushido Blade on the PS1 was the sole fighting game that I liked. Famous for the realism of its combat - no health bar, if you stabbed someone in the head with your sword they died in one hit - and completely lacking the crazily complex combos and cheap cheating AI that has been my experience of other fighting games.

Wipeout, also on the PS1, was the only racer I could ever spend time on. I'd succumbed to the hype and bought the original Gran Turismo but it bored me senseless when it wasn't driving (no pun intended) me insane with those bloody licence challenges. Wipeout won me over with its cool visuals and great music (albeit it's a bit retro these days), and of course you could fire missiles at your opponents, which always helps.

So those are my exceptions - the reasons why I can't dismiss those genres completely as something I've never liked, because I really really liked both of those. What are yours?

I despise racing games, but I liked Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

As a general rule, fighting games are horrible (IMO, anyway), but I will admit it:

I like the Smash Bros. series in its entirety.

I'm not that much of a fan of puzzle games, but Puzzle Quest is just genius.

I dislike Fps games, but I love the TimeSplitter series...

and Persona 4 for turn-based RPG.

Even though I tend to hate first-person shooters, I like both Bioshock games and Halo 1, 3 and ODST.

Racing - Midnight Club 3 (Dub), Gran Turismo 1&2.
RTS - Rise of Nations, AoE2.
Fighting - Bushido Blade, Killer Instinct.
Sports - Joe Montana talking football, Ken Griffey Junior Homerun Derby.
Puzzle - None yet.

I have had a love affair with all of these titles despite not caring much for the rest of their genre.

i hate platformers with a passion unlike any other, yet i still count psychonauts as one of my favorite games of all time.

The Professor Layton games are among the only puzzle games that I enjoy. The puzzle quest games are also pretty good.

I hate RTS games, but Goblin Commander... Awesome.
Also; Don't like flying games, but Defender is cool.

I never liked racing games, but Burnout is fun, merely because it's destructive

Don't like fighters, but liked Soul Calibur 2.

Hate RTS's, but enjoyed Endwar.

Not a huge fan of racers, but Forza 3 was the sex.

I hate fighters but I love Soul Caliber and Smash Bros
I hate sports but I love the Hot Shots Golf(or Tennis) games.

I don't really like FPS games but I love the Metroid Prime series.
I don't like strategy but I like the Pikmin series.
Apart from that I think my games are a good spread of genres.

Racing Games (Which is odd because I'm very good at them)- Burnout. I gotta say destruction is fun.

Fighters- Blaze Blue and Soul Caliber. Soul Caliber is especially odd because I don't like Street Fighter.

I generally don't like racing games. They're boring samey races around a circle to be faster than the other guys, with the only real change between games being the specific tracks and which cars are present (meaning that, unless one really likes cars, there is no reason to play multiple racing games). But mascot racing is sometimes pretty fun, so I love CTR (Crash Team Racing) back on the PS1, when Crash Bandicoot was awesome in Naughty Dog's hands. And, to a lesser extent, the Mario Kart games. They're good, they've just never been as good.

It's already been said, but despite not really liking most racing games I like the Mario Kart series!

I've never been that into JRPGs in general but I liked Grandia 3's combat system.
