OT: Well, the first games to come to mind would be the Metal Gear games. Love them, but sometimes they can get pretty cringe-worthy.
Not to belabor a horse that was bead before the game came-out, but quiet is so cringe. It's worse because she is such a good buddy. She can take out a whole base by herself. It's not really the outfit that bothers me the most. It's how she acts and how it feels like there is no reason for it. She really needed to speak and express her feelings more, but it's like she goes from trying to kill you to dancing in the shower for you and I am like why?

Sexism in art is a difficult thing to tackle. To me sexism is, like racism, using (true or untrue) stereotypes about a group to define individuals regardless of them having or not having those stereotypical traits.
That said, is Dragon's Crown sexist? I don't think so. It's caricatural and has sexual overtones but I did not experience it as being sexist. It is in no way shape or form a depiction of reality but rather of what ammounts to the sexual fantasy of the creator(s). I did not experience any pushing of an agenda or a disctinct message other than "I like the idea of ridiculously big tits bouncing around in ways, shapes and forms that reality does not allow". Wether or not you agree or disagree to the existence of such things it is within the realm of personal expression for that creator and it does not, imho, send out a negative message.

We as humans are as sexually reproductive apes an inherently sexual beings and our art logically reflects that. Sex in art is not a reflection of sex in life, but sex in the mind. When the art of someone with a lot of sex on the mind is consumed by someone who might have less sex on the mind or is culturally or personally predisposed to disliking certain aspects of sexuality there is a natural clash that could be considered the core of all claims of blatant sexism in art. Wether or not this is a negative and should be fought against is a matter of personal oppinion but imho there is no way to curtail art without curtailing the liberty of the person creating it while expressing yourself through art instead of action only infringes on the liberty of it's consumers sporadically and perhaps less so than the alternative expression through action.

I always felt like Dragon's Crown was simply taking fantasy archetypes to their logical extreme. The Knight with his ridiculous proportions and all encompassing armour, the athletic amazon (clearly modelled on Tyris Flare from Golden Axe), the muscular barbarian warrior (Conan), the elven archer/ranger, and the dwarfed axeman were all essentially the classic fantasy archetypes for their respective race/class etc. taken to the point of caricature. Were they sexy? Sure, but that was just one aspect of an extremely over the top set of designs.

Okay, yes. Tits. And it has mud wrestling, and a humilation game mechanic.
So basically it's WWE in the Attitude Era?
Yep! And it was glorious. Have a copy on my shelf and i played it a couple months ago. It's still fun and it held up quite well in the gameplay department. Just wished more modes.
Also boobs, the boobs were good.

As to your answer - intentions really don't matter - if you cause someone harm, 'not meaning to' doesn't magically make them not hurt.
People can be "harmed" or "offended" by anything for any reason. Just because you feel that way doesn't automatically make you right, or even that people have to listen to you or take you seriously.

If game developers had to remove anything that anyone thought caused them "harm", then developers could never make anything ever again.

Also, I'm really getting a kick out of the people in this thread complaining about "pandering". That's just a word people use to whine that a group of gamers they don't like is getting more attention than they think they deserve. Funny how you never hear people complain about "pandering" when it's directed at them...

Every Anime game out there.
And No. Not because of the fan service, but because of how cringy the writing can be.
But hey! I need my stupid mindless power fantasies to get on with my miserable life!

;) So that's a single female death next to the virtual mountains of male corpses?

Like now, I was being tongue in cheek when I wrote my first comment, because I knew the thread would blossom into a delightful flower of "Argue the definition of sexism" and I wanted to subvert expectations. At the risk of sounding like the kind of gamer we're all supposed to be shunning, I was actually really pleased when I first saw this cutscene: not only is it satisfyingly violent, it shows some token drive towards equality by having a female villain receive the same vicious end as the male ones.

I recently played Black Ops 1 and I seem to recall there being some dogs in that game too. In fact (and I could be mistaken here) but I think dogs are present in Modern Warfare 2 (and possibly the first Modern Warfare, Call of Duty 4). I really don't like to kill dogs in games if I can avoid it. Fallout 3 and New Vegas ALMOST get a pass since they present feral dogs as enemies but I hate that I can't drop food and turn them from enemy to...not necessarily friend but at least a passive animal.

When it comes to sex stuff in video games I'm pretty thick skinned. It was really messed up how Duke Nukem Forever killed a pair of women who were almost certainly being raped by aliens and what's worse is the dialog about them being sorry for being victimized and them promising to lose the weight. I would think that's worse than Duke's iconic line; "Looks like you're...Fucked." Luckily my love of cheat codes allows me to enjoy that game regardless of its crappy writing and the level design that suggests the devs don't know what made Duke 3D a fun game.
;) There are dogs from Modern Warfare onwards, but naturally I didn't include them in my original comment because I only care about the men.

Like I said to Imp Emissary, I wasn't particularly serious when I posted in this thread, I just wanted to see if anyone would come up with an example other then "This game has scantily clad females-AND ITS NOT SEXIST!!!!!!". I've found that ever since I got my own dog, my previous cold-blooded indifference to animal deaths has changed drastically, and now I do feel quite uncomfortable when I'm forced to kill them in games.

*Walks off grumbling about how his dog has turned him into a sissy*

First, Caring about animals in pain (even if they are fake animals) =/= being a wuss. Caring about animals in pain = Not being a turd. ;p

Second, good to know. Would be awkward if I knew more about COD than one of the fans (also I could bring up more examples, but that one fit the bill the most).

Violence for everyone! [sub][sub][sub](Except the dogs, cats, and other various pets please. ;p)[/sub][/sub][/sub]

When it come to the speaking dialogues in Gotcha Force, it's best to mute it! You won't believed the amount of "mmmm" in it!

Yeah, it's too bad anime games mostly seem to copy shows made for teens, like Naruto and Bleach. It's either that or those awful looking moe games. Can't stand them.

Vanquish, Devil May Cry 3, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and every other action game made by Platinum and Team Ninja. They make great games that I love to play over and over, but the cutscenes and voice acting are always laughable.

A possible exception is Transformers Devastation, where the silly cutscenes actually help make it feel like a genuine Saturday morning cartoon.

I think I'll also add every good 90s game that had voice acting. The 90s was a bad time for voice acting.

Without spoilers what in D4 is cringy? I haven't bought it yet as I am still finishing "Twin Peaks Simulator 2010" (Deadly Premonition) before I dive into D4.

Almost every fantasy game I've played besides Elder Scrolls. The reason so many of them tend to be cringe-worthy are the way characters are dressed. Between ridiculously huge glowing armour that makes my shoulders look like my dominant feature and bikini-mail, these are games I'm embarrassed to be seen playing because I think they look ridiculous and it pulls me out of the game quite a bit. However, I like fantasy, so a lot of games I end up playing are like that. I do wish that these companies could hire people who can put their fetishes away when designing armour and actually give me something believable.

I know that, 'tis just my way to be self-deprecating and there's no easier way of taking the piss out of oneself then challenging my own masculinity. Mmmm, Freudian....

Could you bring up more examples though? I can only think of the Russian lass from Advanced Warfare as an actual female character in COD, let alone any more female deaths. The disparity in gendered fatalities is of course to be expected given the context of the games, but I imagine that might be starting to change if BLOPS 3 is any indicator. Not that I particularly care you understand: I want COD to go back to WW2 from the Axis perspective, not indulge my anti-female murder-lust strike a bloody blow for equality.

:D Aye, leave the cute domesticated animals out of it!

Devil May Cry 3 wasn't done by Platinum/Clover Studios. That was one of Capcom's other in-house studios. The lead director of 2, 3, & 4 was Hideaki Itsuno. Platinum did work on the orginal DMC pre-Clover (called Team Little Devils). Besides, DMC 3 is not cringe worthy. That game had the best story and voice acting. The story knew when it was time to have fun and when to get serious without ruining the balance of either one. DMC1 had some cringe moments with the voice acting (DARK SOUL WITH LIIIIGHHHHT!), 2 was so fucking boring that it really wasn't worth cringing, 4 had a corny love story, and the DmC Reboot had so many embarrassing moments. DmC Reboot failed at being "witty", "edgey", and just plain not good. If you wan actual humiliating cringe in the story, check that game.

Also I found nothing to cringe at in Vanquish either. It's your stereotypical late 90s/early 2000s action film in video game form...and I loved every moment of it! Too bad there will never be a sequel.
