I'm a big fan of JRPGs, and I've never found one I didn't like...until I bought Lunar: Dragon Song, for ten bucks on a bargain games rack. This is a game where you lose health if you run on the world map and have to choose between fight for items mode and fight for experience mode. Also I only got far enough to get three characters in my party, and the two I had from the start were at, I think, level ten, and the new girl was at level one, and there was no way to get her to catch up.
Now why do I loathe it? Because while trying new things is always a good idea, it's also a good idea to ask gamers if they like it. If they play tested this game I'm sure the testers would have mentioned these things ideas sucked, and made the game not just annoying, but irritating. And considering it's part of, what I later discovered to be, a major JRPG franchise, it makes me loathe it even more. Seriously, it's fucking terrible.
