For me that would be Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2.
The only real problem I saw was in Vegas 2 the story was stupid to say the least, and I felt no connection to the first Vegas.

Other than that they are two of my favorite games. I love the multiplayer in each of them. The idea for ACES sure brought the much of the grind out of unlocking new weapons that R6V had a small problem with.

Mine would be Ace Combat 5. it may be old but it has the best story of the entire series. so it may not have a multiplayer mode but thats not neccisarily a bad thing.

I'd have to say the old Tomba games for the ps1, I've yet to find one of my friends that liked them or even know what they are.

Final Fantasy, all of them. Everyone seems to have a beef with at least one game from the series, like FFVIII, FFx and FFXII

indeed

FFVIII - gets slated, but it's probably one of my favourites of the series

I'm old school enough to think that Ring of Red [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Operational_Art_of_War], is another of my favorites that nobody I know seems to like. Myst (and sequels) and in general the whole adventure genre is something that can still entrance me.

I can even find room in my heart for Daikatana. Even with all of the robot frogs in the first few levels... it was the last of the old school kill everything romps until the more modern day banner bearers such as Serious Sam and Painkiller. FPSes that let story get in the way of gameplay are my personal bane, so oftentimes I dislike highly acclaimed single player campaigns (COD4's on the rails, "we won't let you advance without dying until you watch this event happen" is a recent example).

Daemon Slayer12: Ace Combat 5 is possibly my least favorite of the series. I've played the rest (save 6) to the point of total unlock. The storytelling, and the one-way-to-do-this missions (like the one where you follow the flight lead in a training aircraft halfway through the game) get in the way of the Turn and Burn fun that for me is the hallmark of the series.

Oooh I forgot about Tomba. I wasted a lot of time on that when I was young. Although I don't think I got very far on te first one I remember completing the second one.

My main one would be Dirge of Ceberus. Maybe it's because I loved FFVII so much, although still havn't completed FFVII to this day without cheating.

I'm 100% with you. I think Ace Combat 5 is probably the best in the series becuase of the epic story. Kinda got letdown by the AC6 story but it's still a blast to play.

I've heard some people bash Drill Dozer here and there, not sure if that constitutes as "everyone", but...

Earth Defense Force 2017. Yeah, I know that it looks like a piece of crap, but sometimes you just want a game that lets you level a whole city with a rapid-fire rocket-launcher.

SaGa Frontier
Legend of Mana

These got critically panned but they really endeared themselves to me for some reason.
