Dunno if this counts as 'not very famous' but every time i bring up 'Aya Brea' or 'Parasite Eve' i get blank stares, so here goes my uber-favorite no one seems to know of~

Parasite Eve (1998 PSone):

BEST MAIN CHARACTER EVER!! made even better as its a woman :3 least to me, but Aya Brea is basically my childhood hero, and i honestly didn't realize that till a few years ago and '3rd Birthday' came out... and how happy/sad it made me (i cried at the end T.T) but basically this game spawned from back when Square was still 'Squaresoft' and therefore still 'good' at making deep games, and 'loosely' based on the book 'Parasite Eve' by Hideki Sena, its a cool adaptation as its not trying to 'remake the book' but instead build off of it, there are A LOT of easter eggs in the game if you've read the book and provides a lot of 'scary' realization moments when you go back and play it after reading the book/watching the movie and realizing what that meant... but why does this mostly affect me? is-the-most-awesomest-thing-ever!! it introduced me to cellular biology, seriously play the game and you learn A LOT about cells if you pay attention (it even quizes you~) and a form of 'human evolution' that wasn't limited to the 'mutants only' of X-men, or some other crazy tampering shenanigans i've seen in other things... its unique, everything about the concepts behind it, and the visuals are stunning, even now its worth playing just see the opera scenes (they still give me shivers) and Eve, the primary antagonist, is one the BEST Villans i've EVER seen... the dynamic between her and Aya is rare nowadays, made even more amazing as Eve isn't really 'evil' she just has her own agenda that may involve killing all humans~ the characters are complex, the story is complex, everything about it is complex, and makes me love and remember it... sure its dated now, but seriously, i pull it up on my PS3 every so often when i'm disappointed in some other 'new' and 'amazing' game, just to get a bit of that happy back...

and the snark... oh the snark~ :3

Does anyone remember the Spy Vs. Spy game on the original xbox? It has been a long time since I played it, so I may be recalling it with rose tinted glasses, but if I recall correctly, it was a blast. I was a huge Mad magazine fan back then and playing out the ridiculous antics of the spies was really enjoyable. There were up to 4 player verses matches where each person had to acquire various items out of safes housed throughout the level. You had an arsenal replete with over the top gadgets and playing with friends could get quite hectic and intense.
Yeah, I remember having a lot of fun with that game.

Probably the only game I can think of where you die via getting sodomized. :p

OT: Well there's Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. A fun over the top third person shooter where shooting at robot limbs affects how they fight. Shooting at a Mil Grunt's grenade throwing arm can cause him to attempt to lob a grenade, fail miserably and blow himself up. Breaking the thing connecting their torso to their legs causes their torso to flop over and have them running around in circles like a chicken with it's head cut off.

You can also use a control tether to take control of enemy robots and cause havoc within their ranks. Nothing like taking control of a Titan and firing volleys of missiles at a group of unsuspecting mils.

The game is also pretty hilariously written as well. Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer Simpson, does a great job as the foul mouthed Krunk.

The game was so much fun. It's a shame that the sequels planned for this gem aren't going to be a reality...

Also another vote for Valkyria Chronicles. That game was amazing.

Valkyria Chronicles, for it's mix of XCOM style tactics with military strategy along with anime-esque style.

Danganronpa, for feeling and playing like a mix between the anime Mirai Nikki and the game Phoenix Wright.
Valkyria Chronicles is actually the 2nd game I got for PS3. I was a little late to the punch considering I got a PS3 last year, but it is awesome. I loved the visuals and the story (a bit clichéd, but they made it work).

I'll always look back fondly on Baten Kaitos on Gamecube. Yahtzee posted an image of it's sequel in the middle of one of his last reviews while commenting on the fact that games don't need cards to function anymore. On the contrary, I'd say that the series, particularly the first game, had one of the best RPG battle systems I've ever seen.
Yeah, Baten Kaitos was fun. I really need to get back and play that again.

Edit: Also Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow was amazing.

Broken Sword.

My brother introduced me to the series, and we have played them all together. They're amazingly well written, beautifully drawn point'n'click adventure games with the most amazing soundtracks.

And despite having enough fans for a crowdfunded 5 installment to have come out, apparently no one has ever heard of it...

I swear no one has ever heard of Wild Arms. It was probably over shadowed by FF7, which came out around the same time. But damn was it a beautiful game. And had one of the most beautiful intros in the history of gaming.

And before anyone takes this as an opportunity to hate on FF7, know I love FF7. And it's probably the entire reason I did eventually find Wild Arms and several other great RPGS.

For that matter, Legend of Legaia is another JRPG I loved. But I don't think anyone has ever heard of it.

You are not alone sir. I have played all of that series except for 4 and XF (basically 'Wild Arms Tactics') and found them generally enjoyable with 3 being one of my all-time favourites:

My only beef was that after many interesting and difficult battles in chapters 1 and 2 your party continued to increase in power and flexibility, while your opponents really didn't. No boss or enemy would pose a serious threat to you after getting the Guardian Lords, the only question would be long before they died.

"Steambot Chronicles. A lighthearted non-linear adventure!" That's what the game itself says at the title screen.

The controls are clunky, the voice acting is stale, and the singing takes some getting used to...But god damn is it charming as fuck. You're whisked away into a magical wonderland of 1940s-1970s level of technology, if instead of cars we made mechs. And fought using them.

Dude, I remember Spy Vs Spy on the Commodore 64!

That was also a blast to play multiplayer, though it only supported two players. It was always funny when your friend blundered into a trap you set, especially since you could see each others' screens all the time but still got killed.
I think the guys over at Continue played that on their show. Might have been on NES, though. If you look it up, know that they don't use instruction manuals (assuming they even have them) or anything. They simply go on first impressions after 30 minutes or so of play.

The first two Gundam: Battle Assault games on PSX.

They're fun little fighting games that had the bonus of being able to unlock and play as boss characters in VS. mode. There is always something fun about having two enormous boss characters take up the entire screen and just poking at each other until someone dies.

Battle Assault 2 also has a fantastic roster of multiple mobile suits from across the entire Gundam franchise. All I needed was Deathscythe to make me happy though.

We don't get enough of those fun, easily accessible crossover fighting games anymore.

Secret of Evermore. It was a story about a boy and his dog, and various points in history from the stone age to the far future, time periods in which a noble schnauzer was transformed into a sabertooth wolf, a greyhound, even a floating toaster that shoots lasers. I loved that toaster. In the hayday of 16 bit 70hr RPGs, this was one of a few standouts that included Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and of course Final Fantasy 6.

You have made me happy, good sir. I should really download Wild Arms 2 off the PSN. I haven't tried it.
Oh, and that intro was nice, but I still think the first one has the best intro. Such a pretty song and the video is interesting showing the characters separately but uniting at the end.

As for easy, the 255 glitch in Wild Arms made the game laughable. Just make 255 of the stat boosting apples and you can make each character Gods. Make 255 of some equipment and sell it to become rich and fully upgrade Rudy's ARMs.
