Christ...
Most games mentioned here are well known, well played and cult classics.
Let's toss out some random names and shoot you with them:

Killer 7 - Cult classic that everyone who had a GC or PS2 back then and kept up played, also named one of the best games every for GC (20th place) among other things.

Psychonauts - Are there people who haven't played this game yet..? It's roughly the most overplayed game that "Noone played" ever..

Valkyria Chronicles - It was the 93rd best-selling game in Japan in 2008, 'nuff said.

Indigo Prophecy - Also known by its real name Fahrenheit, has sold around 1million copies.

ICO - Also around 1 million copies and Cult Classic status, people have played it
Shadow of Colossus - Ranked #1 in sales in Japan the first week of release...

Cobra Triangle - Well known and popular game that is rare today because people ruined the cartridges.

Beyond Good and Evil - Another cult classic Everyone got when it became "cool" and played through.

Okami - About 800k sold. Not GOOD, but surely played and well known.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms - There are 30 different Romance of the Three Kingdoms games to date - ALOT of people have played it.

So atleast stop repeating those "Underground Cult Classics I only Played Because it's cool" games and come up with something actually unplayed...
The list includes - Ico, Beyond Good & Evil, Psychonauts, Okami, Braid, ANYTHING by LucasArts..

Are you counting each console and PC release for each edition to get the 30? Because the actual RoTK series is only in its 12th iteration. There have been a ton of related games, though.

Has anyone ever heard of or played "Citizen Kabuto" ? It's a pretty old game, but it was fun. It was a first person shooter where you had a jetpack, and you had to retrieve stuff to build a compound. You could play 3 different species, and Citizen Kabuto was a huge Godzilla monster you got to play. It was a lot of fun, made very little sense, a British game I think. Someone should tart it up and re-release it.
It's great, great fun. Same devs as Armed and Dangerous, I believe. And it's cheap on Steam, if I recall correctly.

None of my friends have ever played the Banjo-Kazooie games or F-Zero. Those were my childhood favourites!

Beyond Good & Evil, without a doubt. I haven't had a chance to play that game in years, but it at least used to be my absolute favorite game. If BG&E2 gets cancelled, I'll probably go be a hermit and weep--I pretty much lost control in elation when I saw news related to a sequel for the first time.

I just counted those I could remember.. Point I'm making - It's nowhere near "Unplayed" as it's a bestseller throughout gaming history..

I agree with that point, and that's similar to what I was getting at earlier about Psychonauts. On the other hand, I have found exactly 1 (one) other person who's even hear of Syberia. And said person also agrees that it's one of the finest games ever made.

SMT Digital Devil Saga, Way Of The Samurai, S.L.A.I, the Shadow Hearts series, the Ghost In The Shell SAC game.

Although probably the best example is Tactics Ogre: The Knight Of Lodis for the GBA. To this day, it is the best tactics RPG I have ever played but nobody I know has heard of it. Despite getting great reviews, the print cycle was short as hell and it has been discontinued since 2003.

I could argue that it's been sold and played alot but can't really find any figures.
So I'll leave you with the fact that Syberia III is released in June...
If noone played it, they wouldn't make a trilogy.
Heck if that was true maybe I'd get to play Anachronox II and III at some point....!!

Oh, I'm sure it's been played and sold a lot - like you said, they wouldn't have made sequels if it weren't profitable. But I have yet to find anyone else who has played or bought it. And that's including on the interweb tubes.

Addition: Anachronox was so much fun. I'd love to see those sequels.

Oh don't get me started.

Championship Manager series (pre-2005), Football Manager series (post-2005)
Incredibly addictive yet simple (for many years it was completely text-based) football management simulation. I urge you to try it because not since Tetris has a series been this addictive.

Cultures 2: The Gates of Asgard
Hybrid of traditional RTS and Sims-style human placation. It is great fun, the campaign and scenarios are often very different from the traditional "go here and kill everything" you come to expect.

Lego Racers
Perfected the car creation concept, well-designed tracks that hide the N64-era graphics well, sadly the development team were either not given enough time or money because halfway through they stopped designing tracks (the second half of the game recycles the first half) and the multiplayer is not worth talking about. As it stands, an enjoyable stab at defeating Mario Kart.

Sonic Battle (GBA)
I found it quite fun, actually. I liked the concept of creating a perfect fighter out of bits of old ones. Okay so the plot was just an excuse to make you try out all the different characters, and I never finished it because I was useless with Sonic, but I think it worked well (although perhaps it was too easy to run away.)

Parappa the Rapper, Gitaroo Man, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Mischief Makers, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Lost in Blue, Broken Sword, Sacrifice, Oddworld, Psychonauts...
A lot. Although most of these only apply to IRL.

Ummm, isn't CM/FM one of the most well-known franchises in the world?
