Phantasy Star II.

When I was young, playing it on a friend's Genesis, I thought it was really cool, because I hadn't really played a JRPG style game before, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I tracked down a copy of the Phantasy Star Collection for my GBA and started playing it again, and for the first couple of days, I still loved it, and again, it was awesomely atmospheric, the music was cool, and it had some really cool ideas. However, I then began to realize that the game was a forced grind-fest, the random battles were obnoxiously frequent, horribly repetitive and bland, and when you get to later maze-like dungeon levels, it becomes an exercise in aggravation.

Final Fantasy 7,9,10,12

I was playing Crisis Core when something in my mind snapped and now the only one I can bring myself to look at let alone play again is FF8. Crisis Core has made me hate the entire JRPG nation (except FF8).

I find any RTS doesn't age well, as when I go to replay one, I curse over the lack of controls I came to get used to having. Starcraft might be the sole exception to this, its controls were amazingly tight for the time that it was released.

I used to like teh GTA series...now I don't really. It's gotten old. I used to love test drive 5 on the ps1, but no it seems reather lackluster, with crappy car controls and generic races. I agree with the necroswanson, that game is amazing.

Guitar Hero. I know that's not very far back, but Guitar Hero 1 was simply amazing and 2 was good but you could tell it was going downhill. I didn't even bother to play Rock The 80s because it seemed like just wasting time until GH3. But then Activision and Red Octane blindside us by putting out whatever the hell it was they called Guitar Hero 3. I will never buy a Guitar Hero game again. Rock Band FTW!!!!!!!

To switch it around, a game i hated then but love now is KOTOR. Wow was i stupid back then, i went out and re-bought it last year and it is now my favorite game of all time.

I probably have to join the Guitar Hero III bandwagon.
I just got tired of it.

I just don't see any reason why playing it again once you've 5-starred most of the songs.
And the last venue on Expert - I'm not even going to bother.
I could probably beat a huge RPG game 5 times before I finally land 5-stars on ONE of the songs on the last venue.

I guess the game has very little replayability once you've beaten it on whatever level. Keep practicing the same songs to get higher and better scores? Nah, f*** that.

I'm glad I spent $20 on a refurbished Guitar Controller and not a penny more. I would never in my entire sane life spend $75 on a GH-controller.

Assassins Creed
I loved the first 2-3 hours the game offered me.
Intersting story, nice controlls, amazing graphics (F U DirectX10) and overall a very nice game... until the latter missions when the mission became repetative, made no sense and where extremely boring. Now I just hate that game and I never played it again.

Tomb Raider(s)
I have no freckin' idea what so ever why I loved those games in the past.
I remember spending hours and hours playing Tomb Raider 1 on the PS1 and I really liked some of the other TR games. Seriously. That game is fucking broken. The pixel-perfect accuracy you have to have on those jumps is just downright horrid. The entire TR-series is just a mad mans trial-and-error. Almost as bad as Dragon's Lair and Space Ace for the CD-i.
While the TR:AE was at least a competent platform game the old ones shouldn't just have ever been released. Ugh. What a waste of time.

Clay Fighter
I don't even need to dignify this game with my commentary.
Just god-awful. Don't ask my why I even bought this piece of crap.

Including Street Fighter 2, Zelda, Mario Kart, Zombies ate my Neighbours, Earthbound etc?
Yes. Street Fighter much better on other platforms, I don't like any of the Zeldas, or Mario Kart Snes, Zombies and Earthbound are not my type of games.

X-Men Legends, X-Men Legends 2, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. - I loved these games because of the character customization and the co-op beat-em-up gameplay. If you want to know what I dislike about the series, look at my Ultimate Alliance review.

Shinobi (Sega Master System) - The game is piss easy, except for 3 levels near the end, 2 of which are difficult because of damn hard jumps. It doesn't help that pressing the opposite direction of where you're facing will not just make you turn around, but make you take a step in that direction. Not good for pixel perfect platform jumping. The other level provides is more of a challenge in memorization (or crouching and walking slowly), with crazy ninjas jumping at you from offscreen every few steps.

Ghostbusters (Sega Master System) - Catching ghosts is no real challenge at all, and that's pretty much what you're trying to do for 75% of the game. The last 25% is spent slipping by the Marshmellow Man as he jumps around in an attempt to guard the entrance to the Shandor Building (or "Zuul" as it's called in the game), Walking up the tower while shooting ghosts (sometimes they spawn a floor below you and you can't shoot downwards), and having a showdown with Gozer (or "Gorza")

7th Legion - My first RTS, so I had nothing to compare it to, really. So many things wrong with it. Basically, I was pretty much invincible in any campaign mission where you start off with a base. There are about only 5 or so where you don't. Buildings appear out of thin air when you buy them, the two factions are nearly identical, the AI is retardiculous, and there's this card system where you use "Battle Cards" for various stuff (they work like God Powers in Age of Mythology), which is interesting, except what you get and when is completely random.

IMO, it was all downhill when Angel of Darkness came out.

E.V.O., the entire "Strike" series (Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, and Urban Strike), and Zombies Ate My Neighbors don't seem to have aged well for me.

I'm not sure why, exactly, but somehow they just aren't as fun as they were when I was twelve.

Final Fight 3, on the other hand, remains every whit as enjoyable.

I'll be honest I had fairly good judgment as a kid, in comparison to most people, but I knew full well when I got into pokemon that I wouldn't be playing it for very long, I just couldn't see myself in college or at work playing the game (another example of my somewhat impressive judgment as a kid is that I didn't like Voltron or Thundercats or G.I. Joe[there needed to be killing in it], the cartoons I liked back then I can safely watch now and say "Eh, that was pretty good.") I don't have to hold my head in shame because of my past.

I am exactly the same as you. Every game I loved then I love now and will always love. Hell I never liked pokemon from the start, being someone who started RPG gaming with ultima, dragon warrior and Final fantasy, pokemon was pure garbage for me.

I'd have to say Civilisation 2. I downloaded it recently and found it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as I remembered, especially compared to more recent games.
I actually still love Civ 2. I guess I just have a weakness for oldschool turn based strategy; I still enjoy HoMM2 and 3.

But on topic, I was a bit disappointed when I recently replayed Grandia II on Dreamcast. It's still worth a try for anyone who hasn't played it but my second playthrough everything was sickeningly easy. All I wanted was just a few really challenging fights yet even the bosses were pushovers.

The Tony Hawk games (1 to American Wasteland).

I played them RELIGIOUSLY as a kid. As in 100% completion in every single one (yes, all goals AND gaps.). As soon as I got the Wii one though, they all just became boring and stupid.
