Any time I get near a game that does not have enough plot or I don't like the characters. I will enjoy fun games like Mario Galaxy, but I need a visually pleasing, well written adventure game with good characters and story to be happy most of the time. I am so picky. There are many games I don't like the writing for that I stop playing.

World of Goo. Not because I don't like it or anything it's just really really hard.

Fallout 3, Bioshock, Oblivion, Resident Evil 4, Wind Waker, God of War, Far Cry 2, Saints Row 2, Red Dead Redemption.

That's all I can remember right now.

It would probably be easier to list the games I did finish. I tend to only play a handful of games every year that I'm really seriously into- the rest are just a way to pass the time until the next "real" game I want to play comes out, so I don't have any real motivation to finish them. Also, I rent games a lot and it's usually hard to complete them in five days.

Was this by any chance in the place with all the robots, after the big open field area? I quit there as well for the same reason.

Aidyn Chronicles on the N64. I wanted to. I really, really, did. But it was so long. And the action was just a bit too slow. And the game glitched as I saved after an impossibly hard encounter in the file I got the farthest in, where I was flung up into the sky, to fall straight down, through the texture, and back into the air. I had saved in midair, somehow. My save was that it was permanently in midair. So, I never turned it on again.

Also, Dead Rising 2. He...just...runs...so...sloooooowwwww.

KOTOR and KOTOR 2

KOTOR 1 had a bug by the end so I got frustrated and uninstalled it and in KOTOR 2 I couldn't figure out a part so I got frustrated and uninstalled it...

these are the only ones I can remember right now... but there probably are more

Fate of Disonence is quickly becomming that for me. The combat system is so bad that getting anywhere without grinding like crazy seems to be off the cards.

Half-life 2 + episodes
I feel bad about this one, I really need to finish it. Technically I'm still playing it I just take really loooong pauses between playing. Why? Zombies freak me out so Ravenholme took me about a week to complete and I keep getting completely stuck and giving up. I've never looked at walkthroughs for a game so much in my life. It's a pity because I do really like this game.
Team Fortress 2
I got this with the Orange Box and I think I loaded it up once then forgot about it. Might give it another look sometime ...
Neverwinter Nights 2
So I didn't play the first but I'd heard good things about it and I wanted some more RPG goodness. I'm stuck somewhere in a cave where I just keep dying even on the lowest difficulty setting. I have no idea how to play this game, I never played D&D or any tabletop game so maybe that's why I'm lost but I have no idea what gear or abilities or anything are good for my fighter.
Saints Row 2
I really really want to finish this. I played it on xbox loads and loved it but I myself don't own an xbox so I bought it for PC. The PC controls SUCK so I gave up until I bought an xbox controller (for Assassin's Creed) but for some reason I couldn't get into it again.
Oblivion
I love my RPGs (Bioware owns my soul) but I don't know if it's because I'm just given too much choice in Oblivion as to where to go and what to do or because the voice acting (apart from the celebs) is so dreadful (also why do we have to zoom in and get a close up of their uncanny-valley faces mouthing at me like drowning fish?) I played this on xbox and thought it was kind of fun but never figured out how to close the first oblivion gate. Thankfully on PC (which I now own it for) they seem to have map markers that I never found on xbox. Sadly the UI is exactly the same as the xbox one (maybe I should try playing with my xbox controller ...) so that's a little odd. Also I got in trouble with the local law enforcement a whole bunch before I figured out that unlike every other RPG I've ever played looting everything in sight is no longer an acceptable hobby for a young adventurer.

Actually I paused there for like a month and didn't pick the game back up for long. I resumed it played for about 2 hours then stopped. Haven't touched it since.

Final Fantasy III (DS).

The last section in the game is relentless. You need to get through the Crystal Tower, the last few areas of which contain the particuarly nasty Dragons as random encounters, and defeat Xande. Then you have to go into the Dark World and kill 4 more bosses before you can take on the true final boss, the Cloud of Darkness.

ALL WITHOUT SAVING AND WITH VERY LIMITED MANA AND MANA REPLENISHING ITEMS.

Because once you defeat Xande in the tower, you are locked in the Dark World. You cannot save in the Dark World so if you suffer a party wipe, it's back outside the Crystal Tower. And you'll probably not touch the game for a month because your so pissed off at it.

The only way to finish this game seems to be to sit in the first room of the Crystal Tower and grind til the cows come home. Really can't be bothered with that. Look up ending on Youtube and I was done with it.
I had that exact same problem, I got all the way through to the final boss on my first try, but then just didn't quite manage to beat the final dark cloud boss, and haven't played it since.

On Topic: Final Fantasy games are my bane, it's not that I don't enjoy them, it's that I just never seem to get to the proper end; true of IV, VIII, IX, X, X-2, and XII so far...
Especially annoyed at not finishing IX, as that was a brilliant game :)

There are a lot of games that I haven't played all the way to the end, and it's not because I suddenly become interested in another game. It's because I have what I've dubbed R-NG (stands for Restart-new game) syndrome. However, it's most problematic when I'm playing games like The Elder Scrolls and the Fallout series, trying to figure out new and different ways to flesh out my character to my liking. And then doing it over, and over, and OVER until I finally have a character that I can play for more than 2 days and stick with him/her all the way to the end of the game OR temporarily give up on the game and move on to something else.

Really? You couldn't complete Portal? That's one of the few games that I HAVE completed!

Admittedly, I had to stop for a while because my graphics card at the time was shit (was a GForce 6400, now it's a GForce 9600.) Resumed from where I left off, completed the game, and had cake. ^_^
i did love the odd sense of humor but puzzle games aren't really my thing

The only games that I never finish are games I find boring at some point. Which is a hell of a whole lot this generation.

Oh gawd... too many to name :p

For a few examples...

Lunar Genesis on DS - It's fun but I got tired of constantly having to go on "collect x item/s" quests and having to switch between leveling up and gaining items for entire map screens, then go back later to do it all again, it just got annoying.

Final Fantasy XII - Let's face it, the battle system was terrible if you loved the previous games. I can't stand real-time combat in RPGs where it's not necessary. I know many loved it, but hey, to each their own.

Eternal Sonata - Yea, same as FFXII. It was great fun to begin with, even if it was real-time... but once it starts limiting what you can do in each battle, it gets annoyingly difficult (you start with unlimited time to assess the situation and then have a set amount of time to attack. Later in the game, it starts cutting that time down. By the end of it you have no time to see what's attacking you and about 5 seconds to rush in and smack it with your UMBRELLA or WALKING STICK!).

I can look at all the games I have, and find a few I never finished. It's not that they're bad games, but for some reason I don't have the patience anymore for them. I mean 2 of my all-time favorites are ones I never finished, maybe I liked them for never seeing the ending?

3 off the top of my head are:

FF13 - Got near the end, but the game turned into a grindfest to keep up.

Legend of Dragoon - One of my favorites. Just theres so much story I forgot I don't wanna play it all over again.

Dungeons (Recent PC game)- Lets face it, the game is not good... Lack of control over minions, can win each level the same way, tried to be funny but didn't pull it off.
much of my older games. you want to know why? 'cause i have an older brother. i'd watch him play and afterwards i didn't feel like playing through until later, which never came.

i'll beat you one day metroid prime, i promise.

Bioshock - no, not out of some misplaced hatred or anything, but quite simply because it ****ed up at the last boss and wouldn't let me keep going.

Baldur's Gate 2 - That game is looooong, and I keep getting distracted

if you still have the game and your save file, you may want to give it another shot. the only grinding i really had to do was to transform and max out my gear. the final boss isnt hard if you have the right paradigms and are wearing thems that protect you from his death spell. i spent so much more time than i had to on grinding but i felt like it was the least tedious final fantasy i had played in a long time, maybe ever (at least, as for as grinding is concerned)

many loved it? if i ever meet one ill be sure to kick them in the shin. literally the ONLY reason i finished it was because my friend bet me that i wouldnt be able to take it anymore and would give up part of the way through. balthier had good lines and the bunny girl was hot. those were the only positive things i could say about that game

Super Meat Boy: Take a guess
Whoa, whoa whoa. You're calling Super Meat Boy hard? I beat the bloody thing in a week and it's taken me a grand total of three fucking years of on-and-off playing to not finish Jumper 2. And you know what the best thing is? Jumper 2 isn't a rip-off of Jumper 2.

star ocean: til the end of time. i tried to get through that game twice and both times i couldnt do it. story was so boring and i hated the combat. the voice acting was straight up painful. i quit while i was on the second world. i hear the story gets better later on in the game but im rather certain i would have an aneurysm long before i reached that point

also kotor 2, because it was so buggy it literally became unplayable for me
