What are games that either are so douchey with the dlc or forced microtransactions that you simply refuse to play or by them?

My big one: Street Fighter x Tekken
I would buy an ultimate edition with all the dlc characters unlocked once it dropped under 20, but as it stand I refuse to buy that damn cash grab. I heard something like 1/4-1/3 of the on disk characters were locked off as day 1 dlc. I can't support this even if I want to play the game.

I thought GTA 5 was douchey in how unfinished the heavily advertised online portion was, along with the pressure for microtransactions and Rockstar making it harder and harder to get money. But I bought it and just eventually grew bored.

Evolve has absolutely turned me off anything about that game, I really couldn't give a shit about it. But I'm not sure that qualifies, as I wasn't totally interested in it in the first place.

But since you mentioned microtransactions, I'll just throw in Gran Turismo 6. As a loyal follower and completionist of the entire series up to GT5, I had to give GT6 the boot. I mean, it never used to be as grindy as GT5 was, there were always ways to make good money reasonably fast, until I understood that it was setting up for it's new rip-off model. I mean, a FULL price game, with cars in it that can cost up to $120 in real money? WTF MAN

This literally just happened to me! I was trying to figure out how to create a thread and give it actual legs rather than just me bitching about it for a few paragraphs but you have already done it for me. Yah!

Tiger Woods 14 (Rory McIlroy golf next generation)

I love me some sport games. Except for basketball, I own or have owned most every sport in video game form at some point. I started playing in a fantasy golf league and myself and some friends really got into GTA V's golf so we decided to go for the real thing...

So I'm playing the game as my created golfer and having a grand old time in the web.com series (amateur golf). I win a few tournaments and I am given my PGA golf pass to play on tour (pro golf) and would you look at the first tournament...

"You can not play this course because you have not purchased the course. Please purchase the course or choose a substitute"

...what....the....FUCK? Are you asshats serious? I looked through the PGA tour...TEN tournaments (out of thirty one) are locked because you have to buy the courses. This is absolutely atrocious to me. As they say, golf is the one sport where it's you against the course rather than you against another team and they have ten damn courses locked out. You might as well eliminate the NFC from football or the West Division from the NHL. I've heard of people complaining about DLC and companies slicing out sections of the game to sell you later; this is literally what has been done. In the words of Billy Dee; BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!!

This is the newest golf game; EA skipped 15. Even if I had the desire to pay for the rest of my game (I don't but let's have some fun and pretend), the marketplace servers have been shut down. This game is less than two years old and the newest of the golf games and they have shut down the servers that would allow me to give them money to buy the rest of their game.

My desire to play the game plummeted (I haven't put the game back in since this happened and I can't imagine I'm going to get the will to do so again) and I have zero intention of ever buying another EA golf game ever again unless I know for a fact that this kind of bullshit has been removed. Fuck. That.

So far, I think the Mass Effect Trilogy is holding the place of the first in my book... "What do you mean important DLCs 2, 5, and 6 are not part of this collection?"

Other than that, most games that have (or will have) DLC in it do leave me skeptical at times...

Most Capcom (fighting) games.

Actually, most fighting games.

Just wait for the GOTY.

Well, I stopped playing Payday 2 for it's idiotic DLC practises (Pre-order DLC with a crowd sourcing element to "earn" more "free" content, with a price hiked DLC to achieve that and "support" the developers).

Aside from that, I avoid modern Ubisoft and EA games like the plague, for their incompetent and broken design as much as for their obnoxious pre-order and DLC practises. And EA specifically for it's privately run servers, killing the longevity of games.

Also, Uplay is an arbitrary piece of garbage. So I can earn achievements to earn points for the slowest online service in existence and then use those points to unlock content that's already in the game code? **** off Ubisoft.

Lately, this has been true for me. It's just something wrong with a fighting game with character DLC. Or palette DLC, for that matter - That's stupid as hell.

Welcome to the fold.

My latest outrage was last december. I loved Smite, it was a great game, lots of fun and with their pay once get all character forever deal, I thought they were doing a great job. Then their Odyssey event started and they started releasing a bunch of skins and other small cosmetic crap, alot of it really cool. I was even alright with it not being purchasable ever again once the event was over.

Then they released the Thanatos skin. Now, I've played Thanatos on occasion, he's a pretty good assassin, but I wouldn't call myself a "Thanatos player". The skin was amazing, so freaking cool(http://makanops.blogspot.com/2014/12/archon-thanatos.html). But there was a catch, you were only allowed to buy it if you had bought EVERY SINGLE piece of content that was released during the Odyssey event. That was over 80 bucks in transactions before you were allowed to then BUY the skin.

This meant Thanatos players were shafted, they had to pay about 90 dollars for a bunch of crap for gods they didn't want to play (along side profile pics and stupid skins for wards) so they could get the one skin released for their god during the event, and HiRes was pressuring them because it was a limited time only thing.

I haven't played Smite since, I was just so disgusted.

I didn't get Disgaea 3 or 4 because it came with 50 dollars worth of DLc to unlock stuff already on the disk. Each.
Then they ported them to the Vita with all of the DLC included. I got my Vita for less than all that DLC would have cost me.

Always, ALWAYS, wait for the GOTY edition.

I've been mulling that one over myself recently. My brother picked it up used, so it's not as bad. I might get one DLC for ME3, but I'm still thinking. It's something like 40 odd euro worth of story dlc, plus weapons and stuff.

Arkham Knight. Not released yet, but has a shit ton of DLC that I'm already excited for. I would wait for the GOTY, but by the time that comes out a dozen equally good games should have released as well. So just this once, I might go for the Season Pass.

Depends on how it's used. I don't play a game unless all of its main campaign DLC is released because I'm a succer for story and don't have the time to play most games twice. And I don't care for two additional hours long after I've finished the game or arena modes, additional skins or such.

Case in point: Most BioWare games because their DLC ties into the story. While I used to buy the games pretty early, play the introduction and let it rest for months I tend to wait for a complete edition.

But if there are DLCs that take place after the main campaign I'm always on board because I can judge from the main game if I'm interested in more.

I would certainly not touch mortal kombat x with a 10 foot pole and a mortal kombat on the PC wouldn't seem that unappealing to me otherwise.

I also really liked dead space 1. Dead space 2 was good too. Won't touch dead space 3 though.

If Borderlands 2 is anything to go by, it'll be years before all the crap is out. I'd rather wait to see how it all shapes up by the time they're done.

Most triple A games these days. If it's from Ubisoft, EA, Activsion then that means there is going to be a shit tone of DLC. It also means there is going to be a game of the year edition. So I'll hold out for that.

I refuse to play PAYDAY 2 anymore because of the sheer amount of DLC crammed into it. If I knew how much DLC there was going to be from the start, I certainly wouldn't have got it.

You shouldn't have to wait too long for the collector's edition to come out if the Claptastic Voyage DLC was the last bit of DLC and they aren't hiding something up their sleeves; which, considering that 2K Australia has been shut down, is not very likely. At all.

OT: DLC usually is an afterthought when I play a game. If I liked the game and want to play more of it then I will consider getting at least some of the DLC if it isn't all overpriced bullshit. If I didn't particularly care for the main game(usually because it was kind of shit) then I'm not gonna waste more money on whatever half-assed DLC they managed to shit out.

Did Dead Space 3 have DLC other than the one forgettable story pack?

OT: None, because I don't get the outrage, nor do have I ever or will I ever understand this idea that if a game has DLC you are buying a "incomplete" game. If I dislike a game I don't buy the DLC, if I do like it I'm glad there is more of it. I'm not going to deprive myself of something enjoyable just to claim internet moral high ground.
This idea that "no DLC" is a selling point is baffling. It's like the dev stood up and went "Hey guys, you know that game you like? well guess what, once you finish it you might as well microwave the disk, because that's all there is to it!!! *jazz hands*" and for some strange reason people applaud this. Not to mention that from where I'm standing companies are going to find some way to still get money off used game sales, and DLC is by far the lesser evil compared to single use activation keys or going all digital.

That said, I do dislike shooter mappacks. Not because of any perceived slight, but because they split the community and make matchmaking harder. And unless your game is named Call of Duty that can be fatal to a MP centric game.

Well, I should have said microtransactions, I don't know if there was a day one DLC. But shitty practice is shitty practice.

None.

The only piece of DLC I remember ever contributing to the overall experience was Lair of the Shadow Broker for Mass Effect 2, and that was only because I liked Liara and missed her presence in the regular game.

Most DLC is crap and the percentage that isn't is just slapped on extra content that I'll neglect after the first few uses anyway.
