I don't openly play any games my friends suggest. because A) when i do play it, they act like it's come victory over god or something, and go OH MY GOSH I CANT BELIEVE YOU'RE PLAYING IT or B) tell me how to play the game, because they played it one way and it's the best way ever and some guy on a forum said you need to do it this way because blah blah blah and- or C) ..They have terrible taste in games.

It's really just because of the people who suggest them, not the games themselves. >.> If I can get by playing it without them knowing, that's generally what I do. Makes it much less frustrating.

You know, generally people suggest you play games because they think they're good and want you to enjoy them too... It's not some secret hidden agenda to get you to play all the crap games in the world.

Minecraft
All Medal of Honour, Call of Duty, realistic army first person shooters.
Anything the Escapist advertises. This one's a bit odd but I spend so much time here watching and rewatching old videos that if they have adverts in the beginning (like for Fable III) I'll see it so many hundreds of times I get beyond bored of it and decide not to buy the game on principle that it's been marketed to me. This does extend to other sites but most sites I go to don't advertise videogames so much as things like Google Chrome or Bing.

On a related but non-videogame note The Princess Bride. I had it recommended to me by nearly everyone I know who watches movies, and although I have recently bought it a combination of my cynicism and the massive amounts of hype everyone gave it means I really wish I hadn't seen it. I really didn't enjoy it, but I get the feeling that I might have done had it not been so bigged up before hand, kind of like Halo 3. I enjoyed Halo 3, no mistake there, but I would have liked it more had it not been so hyped.

For a long time, I refused to play The World Ends With You for DS, because a few of my friends never shut up about it. However, I've since played it, and now I'm recommending it.

Also Black Ops. CoD, and really that slot in the FPS genre, is increasingly just the same game in a different setting.

I completely agree with this. I don't hate the games they suggest, I just hate the nagging.

WoW. In the past I've gone several weeks/months in a row without hearing from friends, who upon reconnecting with me declare "Dude, you've got to play WoW."

No, no I don't. You're really not selling me on the concept either, what with your lack of normal human interaction and failing grades in your 8th year of college.

I don't care how fun it is, or that 3 billion people play it. I'd like to tell my grandchildren that I lived a WoW-free life.

Say no to WoW, kids.

Most MMO's not going to play for it monthly not when I can play free to play ones or play regular single player RPG thats cheaper on my DS/Iphone/Xbox/Wii/other system

The same goes for Earthbound.
I'm one of those fans that will suggest it but it is really bad in some senses so it's really up to you to jump in it and find out for yourself. You can get the emulator and rom for free so what do you have to lose

I do have a friend who's just as nerdy as I am and he loves racing games. Sometimes I can't get him to shut the hell up when he starts talking about cars and an obscure racing game. Also, he currently just won't shut up about the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited 2 and how amazing it will be. As for me, I won't touch the thing with a 100 meters stick.

Oh and any Call of Duty after Modern Warfare 2. Also I'm pretty sick of hearing how awesome is Bad Company 2, the more I hear about it, the more I want to stay as far as possible from it, I don't know why, maybe because I hate Battlefield 2.

There are worse reasons to hate a game, hon. Besides, things that are popular appeal to the masses, and the masses-in the gaming world- are either 14 year old whiney douches or casual money-farters for companies like Nintendo.

OT: Sometimes. Minecraft and Call of Duty spring to mind.
I consider myself part of the masses. And not playing a game because someone else thinks it's good is about the stupidest reason for doing so. Seriously. Do you have such an overwhelming desire to be different that you have to, by default, hate everything that the masses love?

Duke Nukem Forever. Yeah, I wasn't going to play it ANYWAY, but people going "you like pointless action, you should get DNF when it comes out" has now led to me refusing to play even a little of that game under ANY circumstances.

Also Halo: Reach. I liked Halo 3, but my ex bugs me about Reach so badly that to shut him up I told him I'd NEVER, EVER play it.

BlackOps and Duke Nukem Forever, BlackOps because nobody ever shuts up about it, and DNF because the person that kept hounding me about it recently decided I was too naive to have a girlfriend without him giving me some long talk over the phone, but I never answered because the cell was off, and I don't text anyways. (I'm 19, almost 20)

I never said I don't play it because they think it's good. I said I don't play it because of the constant nagging.

This doesn't happen. The people I talk to about games are the people who's opinions I find valuable. Why would I then disregard their advice?
