Yes this is a twisted thread.

Scenario: You buy a game, play it but initially hate it. However, you try it again later at some point and you love it.

I have hated and later loved games only two in recent memory:

Mass Effect
Fallout 3

Funny, I too didn't like Mass Effect at first but ever since I played it again a year later it's one of my favorite games.

No More Heroes and Oblivion both fit that description to the pixel. I couldn't stand either of those, for a time, but upon closer examination I decided that they were actually pretty great.

Sadly, Lost Odyssey has yet to leave a positive impression in...I believe eleven months, now.

Team Fortress 2, now after the Polycount Update the game has become a marketplace of fucking noobs. Back to the delicious vanilla of Xbox 360 Team Fortress 2!

Not really. Usually if I start hating a game it's for a good reason.

I suppose Paper Mario could qualify, I've become hooked recently whereas I got bored quickly at first.

I'm also HOPING that I will grow to like Dragon Quest VIII again, because I really enjoyed it and then it just really stopped being fun. Like, WHUMPH no fun.

Fallout 3. I tried the regular edition, ran around, blew some people up, but I couldn't have any fun with it. I got the Game of the Year Edition and I think I have over 200 hours over three different files now.

MW2:

Buy it. I hate the multiplayer at first because the screen is full of shit distracting me.

After I get used to it, I kinda started liking it. Fast paced infantry combat, I get to snipe people with a sniper full of gadgets. Good fun.

Then glitching gets really big. People start dong the javelin glitch. Move onto using dual models (not really a glitch but overpowered as hell). Every other game I play is a glitched ground war on Rust game. I get really pissed off.

Well, eventually the bugs got fixed, but because I did the mistake of prestiging, I lost my ninja, cold blooded and fall camo WA2000 with thermal and heartbeat. I start sucking, getting spawn killed and shit like that. I notice how Modern warfare has become modern campfare and leave.

6 months later, my friends start playing it again. I fight my way through camping, killstreak rewards and spawn kills for my hightech sniper equipment and good perks. Now I quite like it again.

Guitar Hero. Initial pick up: what a waste of time. Would rather have played a real instrument or a more familiar kind of game.

Later pick up with friends: a fuckin' smash. Couldn't get enough of it, and thrashing my favourite songs in a manner so simple (press the buttons flick the switchbar derpderp) and yet such a satisfyingly challenging way became a kind of fad for me for a while.

Fallout 3 for me. I had to go in there with a totally different mindset where I actually had to "be" my character. You know, make him sleep, eat, etc. This is nothing for those of you who played it on the compy, and there were patches that made the game playable like this, but I did it on the 360 version. It blew my friend's minds.

Final Fantasy 10.

I got it for my birthday back in 2002 or whenever it was released (with a PS2!) but I was so used to FFIX that I initially didn't like how different it was.
Of course later on it grew on me and now it's up there in the top...few

Told my friend I would never play it because it looked shit...
Gave it a shot just so my friend would shutup...
3 years later... I've just given it up but still want to play it soooo bad =(

When I first got my Gamecube when it first came out, one of the first games I had for it was Paper Mario: TTYD. I really couldn't stand that game when I first played, mainly because I don't like turn-based combat. But I just started playing it again a few months ago and realized I loved it.

I also didn't like Bad Company 2 at first, but it's grown on me a little. Although I still don't like it that much.

Bioshock actually went from a game i thought was mediocre when it was released (i was 12 give me a break), to being one of my favorites.

Another good mention would likely be Bayonetta. No it wasn't because of the over the top..ness, and the extreme immaturity (which actually made the game more enjoyable imo since every game seems to take itself seriously nowadays.) It was because i was angry i bought the ps3 version that had a terrible port (Thank you sega). Once i finished Kotor for the 5th time i popped it in and discovered the best Hack n slash system i had every seen.

not really any cases where i hated the game at first, but quite a lot where it was "meh".
say, TF2.

and KotOr, too. I just couldn't get into the story at my first go.
