I just got this amazing game, Disgaea DS. Going into it, all I knew was it had a turn-based system, is a JRPG, is for the DS, and my friend loves it. Now, the first three of those have the criteria to be my most dispised and one of the most boring games ever for me.

8 and a half hours in and I love it. Ok, so it's more turn-based strategy and uses the DS controls great but I never would have expected that.

Any games you like which you wouldn't think you would?

Twisted Metal Black. Back in the day, I had a grudge against twisted metal games for some reason i cant remember. But one year my friend bought it for me as a birthday gift and i swear that game never left my PS2 after wards unless there was a new Final Fantasy or Tenchu game.

FF13.

I hated most FF games except 10 and 8 and I figured I wouldn't like this one, but I ended up loving it.

I find myself loving Sonic Adventures 2, everyone else hated it, but i loved it!

Maybe its because i love games where you take care of animals (Pokemon, Monster rancher, so forth)

Mirror's Edge, a game that many dislike.

Others include:

Digimon Rumble Arena 1 & 2
Van Helsing
The Saboteur
InuYasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask
Digimon World 3
Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Kingdom/Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters
Sonic Adventure 2 (Specifically the Chao)

I think that's a good start.

Gundam Crossfire is one I enjoyed a lot more than expected. I played through it 5 or 6 times on each side (EFSF and Zeon). Tis the best $7 game I've ever bought.

I HATED the chao. Made the game seem a lot less Sonic-like to me.

I had fun with them. Especially because it gave me something that my sister also enjoyed to play with at the time.

Viking, incredibly basic/somewhat shitty gameplay.

Can't get over the fact that I can walk around and find 200+ enemies marching around, sabotage their bases and at the same time be pretty goddamn vulnerable to attack.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I hated the IP in P&P form, and (at that point) I hated the third person perspective. VtMB won me over, I still dislike the Vampire the Masquerage RPG, mostly because of the people who play it. But I'm happy to accept third person games now.

Would be better as a stand-alone game. My only complaints with the Sonic Adventure games is that they were too little about the blue rodent and more about other gameplay types other than the platforming.

If they released a PSN Chao Garden game, it would sell a lot I bet.

I would buy it, that's for sure. It would have to have more depth than the one in Adventure 2 though.

Darkest of Days. Everyone I know points out its flaws to me, and I know the flaws are there and see them too, but for some reason I can't stop loving it.

Saints Row 2. I don't really play games all that much anymore but I've played through this game a few times already. I don't know why really. Just a fun game. And I like the story it has, too which I totally didn't expect it to have.

Final Fantasy 13. I've been a fan of the series from the beginning, and while 7 was somewhat disappointing and 8 even more so (the only pre-Square Enix one I didn't finish), 9 and 10 more than made up for it, with 9 easily making my top 5 games. After the merger, though, every single Final Fantasy was pretty awful (Tactics Advance doesn't count because it was already released in Japan, but didn't make it overseas until after), and I actually tried to like them -- hell, I even have a collector's edition 12 and that game is SHIT. I fully expected 13 to be at least equally shit, but I borrowed the first disc of a friend's 360 version and forced myself through the first two chapters (which were about as bad as I expected), but then it really got better starting with the third chapter and ended up buying the PS3 version that weekend.

Far Cry 2. Not too many like it and I can see it's faults clearly but for some reason I still like it. Gonna finish it after I get a better TV...
