This is a pretty straightforward question that i've wanted to ask. Are their any games that you intended to finish but could not get around to completing?
For me it was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I don't know why I didn't finish it, besides sheer laziness (and I guess me being bad at it).

I still want to finish Fallout 3. I was about 20 hours in before I stopped...it was just too depressing.

Psychonauts. Why oh why is there a damned moving screen? I'm not talented enough for that. >>

Lost Odyssey. One of my favorite games, but I made a huge mistake that made me give up. I beat an impossibly difficult boss only to find an even stronger boss just after given the option to free roam the world on the fourth disc and got myself killed. I hadn't saved since before the first impossibly difficult boss. >>

American McGee's Scrapland. Robot. Murder. Mystery. Just got lazy on this one. xD

So many... I never get time to.

Starcraft II: The dialog makes me want to throw up, but the story is ok, and the missions are fun. Plus, I'll get a shiny badge in my profile.

CoD: Black Ops: It kept freezing at one point. I think I'll try again with the new computer. Eventually. It shouldn't take long.

Fallout: New Vegas: Yeah I've played 26 hours but it feels like I'm no where.

Mass Effect: I talked to like 50 people in the first city and got bored. I still feel like playing it again, though.

Dragon Age: Origins: My character sucked, rerolled, and got a new comp. Don't feel like reinstalling yet. It's my only game that requires a CD to play.

Mount and Blade: Warband

Lots, I have a list at home.

Here's some off the top of my head:

Oblivion
Fallout 3 - almost there! only mothership zeta & broken steel to finish
Fallout NV
Mass Effect 2
Doom 3
Splinter Cell Double agent
Tomb Raider Underworld
Tomb Raider Anniversary

I tend to play RPG's for a long time, then suddenly stop and not come back for a long while, on the other hand i've finished pretty much all the FPS games I own.

OFF TOPIC: love the new forum rule 'Don't be a jerk' XD

Final Fantasy VII. I played through to the crater, something that took me several years as a kid, and my little sister saved over my only save file before I could fight Sephiroth. To this day, I haven't had the heart or the time to get past the second disc ever again. I'm planning a playthrough with my roommates in the Spring, though, so I'm hoping to finally see the end then.

My major one is Final Fantasy XII. I get sidetracked by countless hunts and grindfests until I have no idea what is going on with the story any longer, then I start over.

That game is like an albatross around my neck.

GTAIV. I stopped right before the last missions to go do some of the optional stuff, like Stevie's thefts and murdering pigeons. Then I started playing other games...

I also never played Arcanum past the first town. Still have it. Might play it someday.

Elder Scrolls 4 I've had it since launch but I always change my character between 12 and 18 hours into the game.

psychonauts, i got to the very last level, and just couldn't beat it, i spent like 3 hours trying, then i put the game down and never picked it up again.

final fantasy 13, again, i got to the very end and got to a monster i couldn't get past, put the game down and never tried again. i dont care if its a bad game, i paid for that shit on release day, i need to beat it.

Red Dead Redemption is the biggest one that comes to mind here. I just sorta stopped playing about 2/3 of the way through the game and haven't had the time or motivation to get back into it.

GTA Vice City.

The savegames stopped loading at 78% completion and it'd constanly freeze. :(

Final Fantasy VII. I'm working on it, but I tend to spend so much time grinding, that I get bored. I come back to it every once in a while, but then I get a new PS3 game or something, and FFVII kinda falls to the sidelines. I just never drew me in like Final Fantasy VIII did.

Also, Sonic Unleashed. Although I have no motivation to finish it. 35 more Sun Medals just to continue the story? Screw you Sega.

You should definitely finish it. The ending is (I think) the best part.

Cave Story (Free Metroid-style game made by a one-man dev): I'm still trying for the final ending and am slowly getting further in my runs though Hell. Haven't even thought about speedruning yet.

Hmm, nope I've finished every game I ever bought.

Longest completion time has to be X3:Reunion because the user interface is even more incomprehensable than Windows 97 and the game had a difficulty curve that was like trying to crawl a mile on a cieling studded with broken glass.

But finally 3 years after I bought it I finished it.

In general, a game that takes me time to complete is in a genre that im either new to or not used to. Took me a week to complete Dead Space because, evil as i am, i dont have a stomach for gore.

Other examples are games that are supposed to take time to finish. One example is X3: Terran Conflict finished maybe 6 out of 9 plotlines on that game and ive ivested 2 weeks of my time into it.

EDIT: Came up with a new one, the original Rayman game. Why i never finished it? Despite it being comparable to I Wanna Be The Guy in difficulty, Ubisoft thought it was a GREAT idea to make 100% completion A REQUIREMENT for the final boss fight and ending.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
I dunno... I guess that game and I had a falling out.
Its alternate universe fan fiction-esque crap kinda made me mad.
But it wasn't a bad game.
Parts of the story just pissed me off.
