Everyone should play Half-Life 2 at least untill they are past Ravenholm and the song Triage at Dawn has been played.

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim

It's pretty old, and rather unforgiving, and really only appeals to a niche audience, but I love it anyway.

Nobody? ANYBODY? I HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING IT FOR SO LONG.
noone does? right, fine. I've had enough of this. *grabs shotgun*
I'm not asking anymore. *glares maliciously*
FINE!

*raises hands above her head*

I'll go play it!
I recommended this to you ages ago, goddamn you.

On topic: Condemned 2 (And Condemned 1 for that matter) It seemed a lot of people didn't like the second one but I thought it was excellent, I loved the atmosphere and some of the moments were terrifying, I even loved the way the story progressed, can't wait to find out more.
I liked the optional stealth section too and rpg-like upgrade system.
Only part I didn't really like was:
Defeating the 'alcohol demon', thought that was kinda stupid

Also, Hitman: Blood Money, I don't see a lot of people recommending it, it's a fantastic game like all the others and the final level is unbelievably badass.

I'm probably forgetting quite a lot but these are two that stuck in my head for things I never stopped trying to get friends people I occasionally associate with, to play.

You were not pointing the convincing business end of a shotgun at me at that moment. And the I just forgot about it. Buu-huh!

Before I forget... I would also like to recommend Singularity. It's a good shooter, aright? Kinda flew right below the radar mostly, which is somewhat sad.

Manufactoria. http://www.kongregate.com/games/PleasingFungus/manufactoria

Starts off simple but gets complicated very fast.

Arcanum. Was seriously good with a brilliant character development system.

Pathologic: Sure the graphics are dated, the gameplay can be tedious and very, very, unforgiving; but once you get into it, it is a very unsettling and emotionally draining experience that forces the player to make some of the toughest choices I have ever seen in gaming.

After playing this game I have a very hard time taking games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age seriously. Choosing whether or not to sell your only weapon in order to buy some food, or seriously considering stabbing a young child in the street because he has the medicine needed to protect you from the plague. It is an experience that every gamer should at least try

I'm trying to get my IRL friends to try Minecraft. Hopefully i can convince them through the power of youtube.
As for people reading this, try Blade Kitten. Unless you have a insane hatred for 2.5D or cuteness.

Everyone - absolutely everyone in the world - should be made to at least try Homeworld, the greatest game of all time.

I stopped just after I got out of Ravenholm (will continue some other time - complicated reasons are complicated). What I heard of the soundtrack was bland, boring and not at all memorable.

Evil Genius

Fun little management game, incredibly detailed, while also being funny and having a great art style.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time/Sky (Sky preferably, due to extra content)
Because it has a place in my top ten games and is vastly underrated due to it being a pokemon game.
I mean, the soundtrack on it's own is amazing that coupled with an awesome story and good gameplay (In my opinion better then the normal pokemon gameplay).
(The music is OFF Pokemon Mystery dungeon)

I know I whore it off a lot but Golden Sun. My favourite current series of games. Oh and Mother or as we down here'd call it Earthbound. Hotel Dusk for the DS as well as pretty cool if you're into american mysteries.
