Mirror's Edge.

First game had allot of potential but was too short. I would love to see another.
Same here! Mirror's Edge has a lot of potential, and I've heard that 2 is in development!

System Shock 3
Another Jet Set Radio
Another Eternal Darkness
Another Elder Scrolls, with the Organization of Oblivion but the immersion of Morrowind. And I doubt they have the computing power but being able to travel all over Tamriel would be sweet. Think Daggerfall did that.
and for nostalgia, another Blinx

That holds true in the film world, where sequels are more often forced due to a studio mandate rather than a natural progression of a story's events. It's not necessarily true in the gaming world, where technology and R&D factor into things as much as plot development. Sequels enable companies to refine their tech and their ideas, iron out kinks that cropped up in the original game, and add new content and features that couldn't be put in the first as a result of development constraints. A Force Unleashed sequel might, for instance, iron out all the terrible enemy design problems from the first game.

Examples of games that are superior to their originals:
Assassin's Creed 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Devil May Cry 3
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
God of War II
Uncharted 2
Phantasy Star II and IV
Resident Evil 4
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Castlevania IV
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Star Wars: Battlefront II (yes, even though it's tripe it's still miles better than the first)
Black and White 2

...Aaaand the list just goes on. For the most part sequels in gaming are nothing but good for the developers and for players. A series can overstay its welcome, of course, and that point comes at precisely the moment when the developers run out of ideas on how to continue refining, mixing up, or finding new twists on gameplay. Games I'd list in this group would include Half-Life 2's three-episode trilogy (HL2 was so perfect they'd basically already used their best ideas) and extremely long-running series like Mega Man X. The principle of development through sequels can also work in reverse, where a sequel tries something new and fails at it or where a new feature ends up detracting from old favorites or game balance, as with Devil May Cry 2 and Resident Evil 5. All in all it's pretty much the same crapshoot you get out of a new game, but it sounds more appealing and safe to publishers and fans.

Enclave. Most people don't really like the game, but I did. There was going to be an Enclave 2 but I don't know what happened. It's probably canceled.

Dungeon Keeper 2 deserves a sequel. It was going to get one too, but EA stepped in and bought Bullfrog (the makers of DK2) forever destroying any chance that there will be a sequel.
I agree. You think a petition would work if enough people were to sign it?

Why is their no sequel to Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath ;(
I dunno if that's a rhetorical question, but it's because Oddworld Inhabitants decided to do movies instead. They were working on something called Citizen Seige for a while but now nobody's sure just what they're doing. Could be making films, could be making another Oddworld game, nobody seems to know for sure.

most of those games you listed have overstayed there welcome in later sequels.
Sonic/ratchet/resident evil/zelda/mario.

as for castlevania, the old NES one will -always- be the best D<

I'm tempted to say another Tomb Raider or Hitman game but they have already had so many sequels so I think it would only be fair to limit to stand alone games that never saw any sequel. Then I suppose should also exclude spiritual sequels as The Last Guardian is pretty much a spiritual sequel to Shadow of Colossus.

Considering all that the only game I can think of is Criterion's instant classic: BLACK

You'd never guess a developer who had mainly made bread and butter racing games with a speciality in collision and damage physics could make such and amazing shooter but they did.

Take it from me, this is up there with Goldeneye for the N64... not for it's controls but it's FEEL, them music, the intensity, all those things have real lasting effects. I mean the sound of automatic gunfights with the coolest sounding automatic weapons this side of those classic 1980's action flicks and the damage model for bullet impacts rivals even some of the best games of this generation. Hell this TV commercial for the game perfectly captures how it feels to play:

It's a short game but has to be the most re-playable games around that I have heard other critics call the "Black effect" as in the rewarding feeling of playing through the game over and over, at harder difficulties, finding more secrets, unlocking new weapons and this is such a good game for speed-runs too. But it sold less than 1 million copies on PS2. Probably because it was not part of an established franchise.

Yet unlike so many other great games of recent years there are no plans for any sequels... or at least no official announcements, nothing but rumours. I challenge anyone to name an FPS game from the past few years that doesn't have a sequel released, planned and is not a sequel itself.

Edit: I just fired up the game again on my PS3 (got the BC version) and I am reminded of the AMAZING soundtrack by Michael Giacchino and the wonderfully cinematic opening that really does rival some of the best Hollywood has to offer.

Please, play this game, buy it on XBL to show the publishers that this is a successful game and DESERVES a sequel.

I wish the original actual Fallout 3 had come out. I only have a few things against the one we actually got, but it definitely lost something.

Another Oddworld game! God, how I loved that series!
Also another Blinx: The Time Sweeper but this time without playing as the pig men and actually playing as Blinx again.

I'm going to dig out my old XBox and play some blinx and munch's oddysey now.

Seen a couple of people say Jet Set Radio Future, but I have to say I'd prefer a sequel to the original, I just find the designs in the first one cooler. However, any new JSR would be heaven on earth, seeing as the first is my number one game of all time. Skating around in a fully open world Tokyo-to in PS360 graphics... my god that would be awesome.

Agree with you a lot.

It's weird, unlike most other media video/computer games tend to get better with sequels while films and books tend to get worse.

Jak X. Yes, I concider Jak X to be more of a Jak and Daxter game than Lost Frontier. Lost Frontier can shove it's UMD up it's ass.

Please Naughty Dog, give us a Jak and Daxter game for PS3. Also, since Jak X ended with Krews daughter apparently being a bad guy, can't you have her ressurect Krew? He was awesome in Jak 2.
