That's fine. That is information I didn't have and I was just being helpful on what actually is the problem with 360s "eating" discs.
ACtually I'm not sure what people mean by eating the discs because i have never even heard of a CD drivev "eating" a disc.
Im confused by what they actually mean by the metaphore "eating"
Well, what people should actually be saying is what I and my friends say: The 360 can "ring" a disc. This means that the 360 gets moved while the disc is being read, the disc is knocked off balance and the laser reader on the 360 burns a ring into the disc.
That is the nerdy way to say it yes. Most people tend to say whatever sounds fun to them in an effort to make light of it. i.e. ate.

I saw a friend lose 3 discs before it went RRoD (Mass Effect, ODST, and Left 4 Dead). Personally, I'm a PS3 owner and I only had a problem with one disc, but it was a used copy that gave me problems from the beginning. Fucking Gamestop...

Well Fran wanted to know the literal meaning to "eaten", so I gave it.

none, because i look after mine, however when i shared a ps2 with my brother (many years ago), that ate my smackdown game, i got really upset.

its funny, when me and my brother share things they end up breaking within a year, but MY stuff lasts me at least 3 usually.

My first xbox didn't misbehave until the inevitable first generation RROD.

My second xbox (a replacement but still generation one I think) took a bite out of Modern Warfare; had to wrestle the disk out of the tray but luckily the disk survived. This one had the decency to RROD on the last week of the 3 year warranty.

My third hasn't given me any issues at all, although I live in fear each time a game freezes.

Just the XBLA games disc that comes with the Xbox 360 Arcade and a copy of Perfect Dark Zero (the first was wrecked by turning the 360 over, the latter by hitting the side a bit too hard by mistake).

I also got sold a copy of Black Ops from CeX (a second hand gaming/gadget store in the UK who seem to be infamous for piss-poor customer service) with such a ring around it as well which would freeze when loading most multiplayer maps, upon returning it, the member of staff blamed me for wrecking it because whoever bought it in failed to notice the fairly obvious scratch behind a well placed finger mark and more other scratches than hairs on my head (I'm 20 years old so I've got a fair few). "We'd never buy in a disc in such condition" the person said, he still replaced it after trying to argue with me and I was thrilled when he did, don't get me wrong but I do not class this as good customer service by any stretch.

Mine ate my copy of GTA IV, then proceeded to RRoD about 2 seconds after the wonderful "grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..." noise it made when it decided to ruin the disc. Funnily enough, the console was actually fine when I turned it back on so...it was just having a mood swing, I guess.

Mine ate my New Vegas. It didn't hurt its attempts that my family kept stepping on the controller wire and moving my xbox while it was reading discs.

None that I know of. I wasn't even aware that it could do that.
Only if the 360 is moved while it is reading a disc or the 360 has been dropped at some point and it breaks something inside. Other than that it is impossible for it to eat a disc. A 360 isn't just going to up and eat a disc for no reason, an outside force has to do something to the 360 for it to be able to eat a disc.

The whole term eaten refers to the 360 burning rings into it with the laser.
I figured It's something like that. I know it's not REALLY going to eat a disk and then take a dump, but I meant losing a disk that way isn't something that has happened to me or my friends so this is new to me somewhat.

Mine ate GTAIV, but then again, it was pushed over by a dog, whilst the game was inside, so what did I expect.
