How does an Xbox eat a disc? My PS2 / PS3 have never eaten a disc. o_O
Due to Microsofts beat Sony to the plate brilliant design policy the 360 had a serious number of severe hardware flaws that Sony fanboys still mock today.

Among them was, of all things, the laser crystal that allowed the system to read the game disc. Due to a faulty gasket that held it in place the crystal would fall out or lose proper alignment. If this happens during your game time youll be treated to a horrible grinding noise as your 360 carves up your game disc, hence 'eating' it.

OT: None of my games have been eaten, as i dont own a 360. However my sister does own a 360 and im convinced it ate her copy of Motorstorm that came bundled with it.

This has never ever happened to me. I've actually lost more games/consoles to other people's drug addictions than any hardware problems

If you're renting an xbox game from a store and your xbox goes batshit, do you have to pay for a replacement, or will the store cover it?
Apparently it leaves tell-tale marks( http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRhm_3wxxunqK3s_yW2l0ht5DzxtZy4fGxM9uAr6ZD14alUJbUl&t=1 ), so surely you could say it's your greedy xbox's fault, right?

Shit this sounds like a very common problem :| You would think Microsoft would do something about it.

My old one tried to eat my Arkham Asylam but I shouted at it and then hit it.

Seriously it worked, saved the disk but broke the xbox as it knocked the reader out of place. Removed the disk and then one thump later the reader was back in place and working and the xbox had submitted.

Making me the winner by TKO.

hahaha some cool stories.

yeah the only reason I buy games for the 360 at all is because i like the achievements and the controller.

honestly i would rather use my ps3 which ive had since release day, has never broken and has never eaten a disc

I lost Prince of Persia. It wasn't a big deal since it was a load of crap anyways. I think my Xbox was doing me a favor.

Not my Xbox (yet) but my PS3 did a YLoD while a *rented* copy of Red Dead Redemption was in the drive. We ended up having to do the electronic equivalent of a C-section on it in order to get the disk out.

It wasn't walking away from that extraction.

None. Although, I am on my fifth console, so I think we can call it even. Maybe even a little more in my favor.

The only disc mine ever ate was when my roommate was making me play Fallout 3, and after an hour of not fun having and me complaining the whole time and him not shutting the fuck up about how amazing it was I "accidently" tipped over my xbox. clumsy me! Really though, you don't understand how much of a dick he was being, he deserved it.

I've only lost one XBox to date, and neither have ever eaten a game. If you want a list of games for scale, my gamertag is in my profile.

Just out of curiosity, do you have your XBox vertically mounted or laying down in the more traditional fashion? I've heard that positioning the console vertically greatly increases the likelihood of discs being destroyed.
