I know there are plenty of threads on the topic of some games being too hyped, overrated or just not being that good but what I'm wondering are there any games that you DO think are worthy of all the hype, praise and/or sales BUT are mentioned so often that even though you'd admit they were great games that the constant praise over the years is starting to become an annoyance?

Portal.

I'm a Valve fanboy and I'm sick of hearing of it.

It wasn't that great in my opinion.

Will you guys (that's not you Escapists by the way, I'm using "you" as a generic term) just shut up about every single one of Valve's games for ONE FUCKING MINUTE? Seriously, there are people who practically worship Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2. I'm getting sick of hearing about how awesome they are.

I'm also sick and tired of hearing about how terrible FFXIII is. And I don't even know the first thing about the game, other than that it was made by Japanese people and so is probably a little odd by our standards.

Half Life 2. I didn't think the game was that good at all. Nothing in the "plot" is explained at all, you are required to have played the first one to know wtf is going on.

Portal. Its a decent puzzle game, but hardly revolutionary.

Team Fortress 2. *yawn* A.V.A. is a much more interesting and fun FPS.

Minecraft. This game is incredibly boring. And the "retro" graphics don't do it for me.

World of Warcraft. Will people just shut up about it already?

Counter Strike. Should have died years ago.

Slim Jims. I will never eat one of these "meat sticks" again.

Call of Duty MW 1 and 2.

Because when broken down to it's core..it's just another basic FPS in a war based setting.

Any of the Halo series. I am so sick about hearing about them.

Yes, I've played them. Each one is exactly the same as before, but with one new flavor added to the dull pot of porridge.

Halo: neat
Halo 2: wow, dual wielding guns. *yawns*
Halo 3: Wait, so I can pick up the gun pod? That's it?
Halo Reach: Whoopie, we all gonna die. Oh, look, jetpacks for like 10 minutes.

I'm not even gonna comment on ODST or Halo Wars. Played 'em, hated 'em. And could care less about the multiplayer. I played it for each, and it's pretty much the same FPS multiplayer game that's out there for every other game.

And it's sad, because I love FPS games. Could have been epic. First game came close, but all the others were simply carbon copies. And over time, it actually detracts from the game.

MW2. It's boring, takes no risks, and you die at the slightest provocation- but I lost count of how many times I shouted 'How did that not kill you?!?' to friends.

Halo. So many Halo fanboys out there and it's so annoying. That and WoW. I am so tired of hearing that game being treated like it is life itself.

Any Bioware or Valve game, it really gets annoying always seeing people wank off to these games. Now they are not all bad games (I do dislike some of em), but constantly hearing people yammer on about how they are the greatest thing since jesus gets tiresome. They are good games, but damn tone it down a bit.

Dragon Age: Origins, yes its story was good and it gave you options, that doesn't make up for a simplified WoW gameplay system.
Isn't it based off the D&D rule-set that RPGs have been using since the beginning of time (before the Mass Effects where the genre has shifted somewhat)?

You really don't - I'd say at most you need to know what happens in the first 10 minutes of the first game, and you could easily get away with not knowing it (I didn't when I first played HL2).
