Games you've never really 'got.'

There are some games, that aren't bad, but you've never really understood why there so popular, there are three examples of this for me, Halo, Uncharted and well Rockstar games.

Halo have always seemed rather average for me. I've played them all, and there ok, but only Reach I actually thought was good. All the others just seemed rather similar, and whilst online was ok, its nothing special for me. Yet at one stage I think Halo 3 was the top selling game before COD rather smashed this several times in a row. I never really got bored or disliked it, just rather meh.

Equally Uncharted is another gaming series i've never enjoyed that much. I haven't played that much of it but whenever I did I found myself thinking this is fun its just like (x) but (x) is better in this regard. Again, decent enough but nothing I would fine special.

Finally Rockstar. GTA has its moments, as does Read Dead, and I love the general idea behind them - high quality, mostly single player games with good writting. But they've never got me, mostly becuase of the combat with its lock on ability (I now you can turn it of) and mostly becuase 90% of characters start of with i'll help you find (X) now just do this 8 bazillions things for me and after most people say this again and again to somebody who a dangerous killer,it gets rather irratating. Again there's nothing wrong with it, but i've just never gotten in them, as much as some of other games.

What other games have people found that are series found that people have loved, but just you've just not enjoyed that much, not found really bad, just ok.

Minecraft. Played it. Liked but then it all came crashing down... It's glorified lego for PC gamers with nobody at home to play with. I'm a pretty creative guy who loves nothing more than full control of something but all the hype I've seen on here is making me grow tired of it and I realise everybody is eventually making the same old stuff anyway. Yay PC gamers actually get a new toy... postpostpostpostpostpostpost... you guys are getting worse than the Avatar threads that plague 'General' at the moment. But the bit I dont get the most is why are we expected to defend ourselves against poorly designed monsters in a pathetic attempt at creating a RP game? Sure if you can overlook that and carry on building a castle or a rollercoaster or some kind of anime model then good for you. I'm just a miserable fussy git who likes lego!
Just remember people are too busy building their own castles and rollercoasters to give a crap about yours =)

Both Mass Effect and Dragon Age for me. I found them to be quite boring.

I don't understand the appeal of Final Fantasy games to tell you the truth. Maybe it's my limited exposure to them because I have a bit of a mancrush (can you have a mancrush on a game?....i'm going with disc-crush)on western RPGs. Or maybe it's the style I don't like but yea I watch people playing those games and I die a little inside

Well OP stole the words right out of my mouth. I have played uncharted 2 and it was just boring and clunky. Only good parts are some of the scenery.

I don't get bioware games in general, tried mass effect once, returned it the next day, it just wasn't my cup of tea
Also, halo and cod aren't so fun on multiplayer unless I have a friend over at my house and we're playing split screen live.

Oblivion.

I never understood what was so bloody amazing about it. A lot of people seem to just call it the "best game ever" with no concrete reason why.
I've played it, and I still don't get it.

This and DA:O. Found the latter extremely boring and just never could've gotten engaged enough to actually play through it.

Sandbox games where the quest is something that you may or may not stumble upon every now and then while traversing side-quest-opia. I try and try, but it just doesn't seem to keep me interested for more than 10 hours or so.
In this category I would put DA:O (haven't tried DA2 yet), Fallout 3, Oblivion and Red Dead Redemption to name but a few of these supossed juggernauts.

Morrowind

I started with Oblivion and loved it. Then, I found a copy of Morrowind GOTY in a bargain bin and decided to give it a try. From the walls of text that's supposed to pass as dialogue to the fact that you fail at nearly everything (swing a weapon? you miss, cast a spell? it fizzles, mix a potion? you spill it on your pants), I just couldn't get into it.

I couldn't get into Obliveon for ages. I played it for awhile and just didn't get it and left it for ages. After awhile I was looking for something similar to fallout 3 and gave it another go and loved it, dunno why.

Me neither (although I do love Fallout 3). I think that part of the reason why I hate it is the enemies lack of response when you hit them and the levelling up system.

Final Fantasy VI: What's supposed to be so good about this game? I didn't even think it was the best FF on the SNES, let alone the best FF overall.

Final Fantasy VIII: I know a lot of people who consider this among their all time favourite games, and it's actually probably the FF I've played the most, just because I was always hoping I'd finally realise how good it was. This game's a nightmare, excruciating to play and the plot's got more holes than a block of Swiss cheese in a rat's nest.

Super Metroid: It's a platformer. I mean it's alright but that's all it is. It surprises me whenever anyone lists it among their favourites because it's just so unremarkable.

The first time I played Oblivion I thought it was pretty bad, the gameplay was clunky and I felt like I was thrown into the deep end with no help. A few days later I gave it another go, though, and really pushed really hard through the aimless and difficult beginning and all of a sudden the game "clicked" and I fell in love. I'm not saying you should give it another go because in all likelihood you just don't like the game, but I am glad that I didn't give up after my first try.

Fallout 3 and DA1 I just can't really get into.

Oblivion I played for awhile, then it just got boring for me. Wasn't really expecting it to be a fave game, so I got what I wanted out of it.

I've tried a few MMORPGs, and quite frankly, I got bored with them after a couple of days, at best.

Yeah, I know some people love them, but I don't really see the appeal.

My big problem with oblivion was the treadmill-like auto-leveling monsters. The absolutely flat difficulty curve turned me right off. In an RPG I like being able to go back where I killed my first giant rat and kurbstomp it with a nuclear fireball.

Kane and Lynch was another. Might as well have been a shooting gallery. "Here are some cardboard targets, shoot them because we said so".

Minecraft - yep, its PC lego but with less colours. I can see why people DO like it, but its not for me.

Command and Conquer games.

I've played Generals a lot, and played several of the others (I own the first decade collection) but I just don't get the appeal. Combat is too fast and the building system is completely counter-intuitive to me. Maybe its because I started off on Warcraft. *shrugs*

So...so I'm not alone?

Also: Dungeon Siege, from back in the day. Really anything where your character auto-attacks.
