I played both of those, pretty darn good.

My big one, however, is Omega Boost. An excellent mech 3d space shooter with an excellent soundtrack if you buy it for the right region. Also Front Mission 3, as my avatar implies.

Amnesia:The Dark Descent.I tried to get a friend to play it but he didn't like it as much and wasn't particularly scared(he was still at the beginning of the game,he wasn't alone and the room was still kinda bright.Yeah,we didn't have headphones either).
So yeah, even if you hate the whole horror genre(either it's games or movies),give Amnesia a try.It starts off slow to draw you in,make you learn the mechanics, but then shit goes crazy. It's pretty good.

The original Age of Wonders from 1999. Hell, the whole series. I loved those games and still play them, but few people i know have heard of it.
Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic is a brilliant little game, one of my absolute favourites really. My only real complaint is that I wish the AI were better and the campaign a bit more interesting, but those aside, everything else is golden.

Seriously if anyone reading this thinks the idea of a Heroes of Might & Magic, King's Questy, Civilization light fantasy grand strategy rpg is intriguing, pick it up from gog and show your support. The developer who made the series is still around, the idea of another game in the series isn't that far off if enough interest is shown.

Anyway, while it's far from unknown among the PC adventure gaming crowd, I really wish The Longest Journey was better known. It really is a brilliant example of story-telling and characterization in games. If you like a solid bit of narrative and an endearing protagonist you're doing yourself a disservice by not having played it.

So with other words; played the game completely wrong. Would try to sit him down again, alone, in a dark room, with headset and nothing else around him.

the cultures series. i have only ever seen one copy of the first game in a shop. and one copy of the other games in the series on ebay.

so im guessing not many people played it.

i thought it was an awesome game, much better than settlers but with none of the popularity.

I agree. Army of Two: 40th day was quite fun, well in co-op anyway. I didn't play SP. Actually that final decision of the game was one of the most tense moments I have ever had in a video game.

Skies of Arcadia. To be played with minimal interruptions, preferably alone over a weekend. And on the Dreamcast with a working VMU.

Yes, you know im hardcore, from that sentence. Envy me.

Mischief Makers on the Nintendo 64 its actually a pretty original 2D platformer believe you've never really played a game like this. Its also quite rare so my game might actually be worth something.

Legend of Legaia

Seriously, when talking about PSOne RPGs, everyone seems to remember Squaresoft and its Final Fantasy, Vagrant Story, Xenogears and Chrono Cross. If you're lucky, someone will also remember Wild Arms, Suikoden, Dragon Warrior, Legend of Dragoon and Legend of Mana.

But what about Legend of Legaia? LoL had random encounters, only three playable characters and the graphics weren't always the best. But that's as far as possible bad points go. It was an RPG with a solid story set in an interesting world with its own unique mythos and atmosphere. A world revolving around things called Seru. The combat system was unique, almost creating something of a turn-based fighting construct within the normal "Attack" command. The usable magic in the game are enemy seru you beat and then absorb.

This brings me to another point: monster design, there are some pretty awesome Seru to be encountered. Also, if you change your equipment, the texture of your clothing actually changes - and not just the weapons (rather rare in a JRPG). Last but not least: the music. Not as many tracks as in a game like FF IX, but I found them to be quite entertaining and fitting the atmosphere (also, the battle themes had some weird drum 'n bass feel to them).

The Dig. It's an amazing 90s sci-fi adventure game by LucasArts. Look it up and play it(You'll need ScummVM).

Anyone play Vagrant Story? It's on the PSN, but I remember when it came out, the graphics were quite unique and the dialog in the comic bubbles, very cool. And that one knight has the most awesome line:
"We are not here to bend aught, we are come to cleanse!"

Several:

The Otogi series:

Imagine the Japanese form of God of War, but having come out earlier and plays far more swiftly. This game did for Japanese Mythology what God of War did for Greek Mythology, it placed you in the shoes of a Japanese Legend (Raikoh, from the tale Raikoh and the 4 generals), allowing you to fight in completely destructible environments (Which would actually save what you destroyed, giving a bonus weapon if you destroyed everything in all stages), fight in a swift and elegant manner (A lot of combat took place in the air, the character Raikoh moves swiftly and gracefully, like a crane.) with multiple weapons (Maces, swords, rods, staffs, etc), and this magnificent package was completed with the lovely music (Classic Japanese music, really sets the mood).

This game series was made by From Software, same guys who made Demon's Souls and Lost Kingdoms. Also, it uses the heavy and light attack method of combos like God of War and other action games, but don't mistake that, it is in no way brutal. It is elegant, swift, and satisfying. There are no Quick time events either. The games to this day, look good enough to hold up to a 09 360 game, and they were on the original Xbox. If you love Japanese mythology, then you'd be doing yourself an injustice by not looking into this magnificent hidden gem series.

The Lost Kingdoms Series:

Imagine a combination of Pokemon (Games) and Yu-gi-Oh! (Game), you use cards in a deck of 30, to traverse the lands, but unlike other games, this is entirely real time. The cards all play out in real time, with Active ones fighting alongside you, Weapon cards attacking for one attack, Summoning cards allowing you to summon and use the abilities of stronger monsters, and support cards which have a multitude of uses (Card regeneration, healing, etc). The games all have a good story, the characterization is beautiful, the lands are diverse and lovely, and the music is gorgeous. Another hidden gem series from "From Software", it is, to this day, quite the experience.
