Exclusive contract in combination with the price? Even if it was all on the up and up, it looks kind of shady here Gamestop...From the article said:Over the past few days, GameStop has found itself in the midst of a controversy surrounding the used sales of Xenoblade Chronicles, a fan-favorite and a game which the retailer had negotiated an exclusive contract to distribute in North America. That contract, in addition to its limited printing, made Xenoblade a scarce commodity allowing the retailer to price its used copies for ~$90 accordingly
Well seeing as the only way to actually get the game in the US is to buy it preowned or you had to preorder the game. If it weren't for GameStop we wouldn't actually have Xenoblade Chronicles here in the first place.RaikuFA said:http://www.destructoid.com/gamestop-taking-heat-amid-xenoblade-controversy-259964.phtml
$90 they're charging for "used" copies that they just happened to find. Probably by Top Men. It's kinda depressing.
Like I said it is actually limited stock because there weren't that many copies of the game localized here in the United States. Xenoblade Chronicles was localized entirely by GameStop themselves, and finding a new copy is pretty much impossible since GameStop only made enough for how many preorders there were, plus a few thousand more. Plus, many of the games out of print that people would want, PS2, GCN, etc, are ridiculously priced online since they no longer carry it.shrekfan246 said:Wait what?
Did I just warp into Australia or something?
Why is a year-old game that's mostly being sold in the "Used" section now (regardless of its status as "Used" or not) priced at $30 more than brand-new newly released games?
If it were because of 'limited stock' then practically every other game that isn't in print anymore would be at some ridiculous price on their used shelves as well, so I find it really hard to swallow that.
This is making my head hurt...
But they're apparently doing the same thing with the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii, currently priced at $85, though that one is still marked as unavailable.Neronium said:Snip
The Metroid Prime Trilogy is in the same situation yes, looking at it all around the prices for it are the same as how Xenoblade Chronicles is. The Metroid Prime Trilogy on Amazon goes for goes for the cheapest I've seen as $82 with $3.99 shipping. It sucks, but the only way to lower the costs would be to reprint it, but unfortunately the chances of that happening are slim to none.shrekfan246 said:But they're apparently doing the same thing with the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii, currently priced at $85, though that one is still marked as unavailable.Neronium said:Snip
My choice is to not spend that much money on a video game, personally. I can barely justify paying $60 for one singular video game at this point, and I'm considering picking up a 3DS at some point in the future, which would make my funds run even tighter.Neronium said:Sucks that it's still so expensive, but unfortunately it seems we don't have much of a choice.
Personally I think I'm gonna wait a bit too since even with the coupon and everything, and since I'm a Powerup Rewards member, the game would still come out to being around $65 dollars. Really I only justify me paying for a game over $50 if either a) It's some thing I really want like BioShock Infinite, or b) it's an import since I'm an avid importer of games and can understand Japanese.shrekfan246 said:My choice is to not spend that much money on a video game, personally. I have to hope Gamestop didn't stumble into a rather large inventory and is expecting to actually move them all at those prices.
Please, I've seen copies of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2 on sale at gamestop for $80.shrekfan246 said:Wait what?
