$90 they're charging for "used" copies that they just happened to find. Probably by Top Men. It's kinda depressing.

I was ready to step in to defend Gamestop here since $90 seems to be the going rate from what I found on similar product listings on Amazon until...

From the article said:
Over the past few days, GameStop has found itself in the midst of a controversy surrounding the used sales of Xenoblade Chronicles, a fan-favorite and a game which the retailer had negotiated an exclusive contract to distribute in North America. That contract, in addition to its limited printing, made Xenoblade a scarce commodity allowing the retailer to price its used copies for ~$90 accordingly
Exclusive contract in combination with the price? Even if it was all on the up and up, it looks kind of shady here Gamestop...

Isn't that better than them pricing it higher as new? I wish they'd consider every game they gutted as used even if it hasn't been played.

If you want to be angry at them be mad at them buying the rights to be the sole distributor and only selling a small stock to drive up prices. When I heard that I pre-ordered ASAP because I figured it would become rare, though I wish I got more than one copy.

Dammit. It's so hard/rare to find these Panzer Dragoon Saga scenarios. Was interested in this game and didn't buy. *punches self*

Wait what?

Did I just warp into Australia or something?

Why is a year-old game that's mostly being sold in the "Used" section now (regardless of its status as "Used" or not) priced at $30 more than brand-new newly released games?

If it were because of 'limited stock' then practically every other game that isn't in print anymore would be at some ridiculous price on their used shelves as well, so I find it really hard to swallow that.

This is making my head hurt...

Well seeing as the only way to actually get the game in the US is to buy it preowned or you had to preorder the game. If it weren't for GameStop we wouldn't actually have Xenoblade Chronicles here in the first place.
GameStop was actually the company who localized the game so there are only so many copies of the game actually out there in the United States, and to be quite honest it's more expensive on other sites than it is at GameStop itself.

Like I said it is actually limited stock because there weren't that many copies of the game localized here in the United States. Xenoblade Chronicles was localized entirely by GameStop themselves, and finding a new copy is pretty much impossible since GameStop only made enough for how many preorders there were, plus a few thousand more. Plus, many of the games out of print that people would want, PS2, GCN, etc, are ridiculously priced online since they no longer carry it.
While I don't agree with a lot of things that GameStop does, the pricing thing really is because they took the risk to actually localize the game itself and more than likely took a huge hit with the profits.

Sucks to be the people into this game. Kinda glad I never was interested in Xenoblade. I'd never pay 90$ for a game.

But they're apparently doing the same thing with the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii, currently priced at $85, though that one is still marked as unavailable.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy is in the same situation yes, looking at it all around the prices for it are the same as how Xenoblade Chronicles is. The Metroid Prime Trilogy on Amazon goes for goes for the cheapest I've seen as $82 with $3.99 shipping. It sucks, but the only way to lower the costs would be to reprint it, but unfortunately the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Luckily I've got a coupon for $20 off a preowned game so I'm getting it tomorrow since the other stores seem to have it by where I live. XD
Sucks that it's still so expensive, but unfortunately it seems we don't have much of a choice.

My choice is to not spend that much money on a video game, personally. I can barely justify paying $60 for one singular video game at this point, and I'm considering picking up a 3DS at some point in the future, which would make my funds run even tighter.

I have to hope Gamestop didn't stumble into a rather large inventory and is expecting to actually move them all at those prices.

Personally I think I'm gonna wait a bit too since even with the coupon and everything, and since I'm a Powerup Rewards member, the game would still come out to being around $65 dollars. Really I only justify me paying for a game over $50 if either a) It's some thing I really want like BioShock Infinite, or b) it's an import since I'm an avid importer of games and can understand Japanese.

Please, I've seen copies of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PS2 on sale at gamestop for $80.

A year old game? Ha, this is an 11 year old game that also has digital versions available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. There's no way a physical disk for this thing should cost more than $20, it's not NEARLY rare enough.

Wow so America gets the short end of the stick instead of Europe for once. I bought the game on release and didnt regret it it is actually my third favourite game of all time but even over in the UK this game had a small presence and disappeared from shops fast.

Most places I find it the used price is higher than what I originally paid for it new. I think its one of those that will retain high retail value and possibly get even higher as it becomes rarer.

$90 seems to be the going rate for a used copy of Xenoblade Chronicles so how exactly are Gamestop fucking people over?

this is Fatal Frame 2 all over again :O

here's what game stop's doing, they're hiring a disc developer that is making BRAND NEW copies of the games and selling them exclusively to Game Stop, because the going on shelf market rate is $50 Game Stop is getting the copies in, opening them, and placing them on the self with a $90 Used game price tag

the games are new but since it has such a high demand and such a low offer it allows retailers to basically put whatever price they want on the games as long as they bypass the initial market entry price, which Game Stop is doing by selling them "used"

it's not the first time either, they did the same thing with Fatal Frame 2, Fatal Frame 3, Zelda The Minish Cap, Persona 3, and I'm sure there's more those were just the one's I can remember Game Stop magically got used copies of when nobody else had them

What is weird is that these copies just happened to appear. Did a bunch of people suddenly sell their copies, enough to supply across the country? If they reprinted these then they can't sell them used and 90$, that is bullshit.
