I find both Square and Bioware games to be among the most boring there are. Bioware is especially bad because they make their games look cool when they announce them (Jade Empire, Dragon Age, for example) but ultimately they just bore me.
'Roleplaying' is not choosing between a good, neutral and evil option in dialogues.

So I was recently talking to someone on a different gaming forum (why I don't know. I was bored) and we started to discuss games that every gamer should play or at least try.

We went through the obvious ones like Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong all that fun stuff and it got down to the Half Life series and this is were the argument ensued.

I told him that I never got into the Half Life series and called them boring and uninteresting to me.

To which he replied:

BLASPHEMY!!! HALF LIFE IS THE GREATEST SERIES EVER AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN'T CONSIDER YOURSELF A GAMER!!!11!! ITS A SIN NOT TO LIKE IT!!!
Yes, that was an actual copy/paste. He used all caps.

Now, I pretty much left the conversation there since I try to avoid internet fanboys who use all caps like that, but that got me thinking, doesn't everyone do that to some degree? Some sort of gaming "sin" if you will.

So I'd like to know, what gaming "sin" (as the above person calls it) have you committed?

Or, what are some that you know others have done?

Be it a gaming rule, a certain famous franchise you don't like or whatever, what is it?

As for me, I obviously don't like Half Life, but I also hated Final Fantasy 7, Fallout 3 didn't really impress me and I prefer the 3D Castlevanias to the 2D ones.
You mean what do we consider gaming blashphemy or what did someone else say we were commiting as gaming blasphemy?

I've criticised Half-Life 2 in the past, mainly for the blatantly-contrived puzzles, far-too-long vehicle sections and my dislike of Alyx.
More like "beyond-broken unsteerable driving sections". I will NOT give Half-Life 2 another chance after what happened yesterday when you take control of that second vehicle once you escape from Ravenholm.

There are a lot of games that I never really could get into. Bioshock and Half-Life are two examples of this, even though I've never played them. For some reason or another, they just never appealed to me. The same thing can be said of a lot of other games as well. Myself, I first look at the story and the visual aesthetics.

I simply don't do online games, be it an FPS or an MMO. Why? Part shyness, part hatred of most people. The Old Republic MMO might pop my online cherry, though......

I love Splinter Cell. I tried to like Metal Gear Solid, but couldn't. Thus, I would pick Sam Fisher in a fight over Snake every day of the week.

I did like Half-Life 2, but agree with the previous statement that the vehicle section was way too long. Cut it by 1/2 and it'd have been an almost perfect game (at the time).

Oh great gaming god forgive me for I have sinned!

I have committed the cardinal sin be a rational human being and not immediately blasting the Wii, popular games, and anti-gamers. I have not played oblivion and I feel half-life has aged badly. I do not summit myself to the masochism of old-school games and felt the new PoP "never-die" system was a good thing. I can't play 2D Mario games. Bioshock was not interesting due to shallow RPG elements and a story that is overrated. I like the first Dreamcast sonic game better then any of the 2D games. Oh forgive me great gmaeing master!

...wait, those aren't sin? Praise be to the one true game god for he is pwnzer and 1337!

I'll tell you right now what THE sins in games are.

Daring to have any faith in Duke Nukem Forever and/or all Sonic games after the Dreamcast died.

I rented Ocarina of Time for one weekend a long time ago and, while I thought it was okay, didn't think it was the greatest game ever, as so many other people seem to. As I've mentioned several times, I don't think too highly of Tetris, either. It sometimes seems like I'm the only person who holds those opinions.

Kirby is Badass.

Also, to be worth your salt as a gamer, you have to have died at least once while playing NetHack.
Its like being at this school and having to see at least one episode of The L Word, even if you don't much care for it.

I didn't think that Call of Duty Modern Warfare was that great, especially the graphics, so I haven't bothered to even look at the second one.
I love everything about Halo and am such a fangirl that it is like a stab in the heart everytime someone says something bad about it, however I don't want to get in arguements with strangers who may have guns so I don't often say anthing to contridict them.
Final Fantasy never did anything for me. It was just kinda meh. Loved Advent Children though.

I don't believe there is such a thing as gaming blasphemy. As long as someone enjoys games I don't see why they would not be a gamer.

I don't care for Zelda, gameplay's too boring. Also, I don't like most platformers, althoug they have cool characters, such as Megaman and Samus

Original Poster, my friend, I want to like...give you a totally non-sexual manhug.

For, finally, I have found someone else in this world that thinks Half Life is a completely boring, uninteresting, unoriginal series of garbage and yawns.

Now, as to my gaming sin? ...besides the fact I like Half Life? Hmm...

I would have to say...the fact I think that exploiting game mechanics is a cheap and dirty trick to win in Player-versus-Player combat.

I've always enjoyed a good JRPG. I know a few peeps who'd view that as a gaming sin.

I never really got into Half-life either and I haven't touched the Modern Warfares.
I'm sure they're great games in their own right but I just didn't get the feeling that I'd get the same satisfaction out of them as I would out of some of the other titles that were out at the time.

I used cheat codes to beat all the starcraft campaigns... Don't look at me that way! I was young!

(I have now sworn off cheats because of it though)
