I disagree. I think there are interesting places they could go. Maybe start the main character out similar to Pete and allow the player to develop them into a character like Jimmy or a character like Gary. Or even just taking the same formula to a different kind of school (be it public or even religious). Heck, I wouldn't mind following Jimmy to college (it wouldn't play the same in that case, but could introduce some honestly interesting new ideas like drugs and drinking and all that without being as much of a complete controversy).
I meant that the a lot of the charm of Bully was the setting and nostalgia.. the interactions, the private school, the quiet little town of the alma mater.. It harkened back to a more identifiable time for many of us older gamers (over 21). Schools simply aren't like this anymore. Even private schools. I mean the only direction you could go is either further back in time to maybe private schools in the 40's and 50's or bring it modern day and set it in some sort of urban school in the city. But things are so much different now for students that unless they were willing to take some MAJOR risks by trying to make the game more "mature" since kids today are FAR more mature than we were back in the 80's and early 90's, I don't think they could capture the same "magic" that Bully had for me.

Front Mission - a proper one, like FM5 which never came stateside.

ActRaiser - Two great games, on the SNES, that would have made GREAT DS games.

Dammit LucasArts, I'm tired of your Clone Wars and Force Unleashed titles. Stop trying to remind us about the prequels all the time. To be quite honest, we'd rather forget they even exist.

It's been well over a decade since the last X-Wing/Tie Fighter game. Strike a deal with Lawrence Holland and Edward Kilham and get to work on a new one. Hell, I'd be happy with an HD release of Tie Fighter at this point (with a remastered version of the classic iMUSE soundtrack, not that crappy Red Book version you gave the Collector's Edition).

Also, where the hell is my Viewtiful Joe 3, Capcom?! The DS version and Super Smash Bros. knock-off don't count.

Front Mission hell yeah.. with today's modern graphical capabilities?! I just got shivers. And maybe even a story worth a ding dong damn!

As for IP's that don't need sequels, Front Mission makes me long for a true Robotech RPG. I think an RPG would work much better than just some sort of sim/shooter. Although maybe they could figure out a way to make it work better. I just like the idea of a strong story and characters without Ace Combat's reliance upon a mission structure of various shooting galleries.

I don't often feel the need to call out companies for not doing something, but I could throttle someone at Sega for killing that Streets of Rage fan remake.

I am 22 and I don't recognize any of that nostalgia. I don't see that kind of magic (as in magic tied to it being the perfect location and setting and time period) in it all. I see how the setting was perfect for that game, but I don't see it failing with a new setting. As long as as much detail and care was put in a new setting as the original, it could still be just as wonderful.
I guess we're just going to have to disagree on that.

Hell yeah! Viewtiful Joe 3 would be a shot in the arm for Capcom's sinking ship.

And it has been WAY too long since the last X-wing flight sim game.. what was the last? Rogue Squadron 2? Hell, I don't mind if they even take us into the post era after the original trilogy.

Another gem I think in that same vein was that sort of RPG Star Trek game they did way back with Interplay.. Star Trek 25th Anniversary I think it was? Sort of a point and click adventure title, but to me it was the best Star Trek game ever made. The puzzles and how each section was a complete story unto itself in the vein of the actual series.

Sometimes I remember that game and I wonder why they haven't been able to make a Doctor Who adventure game that didn't suck.

I guess we're just going to have to disagree on that.[/quote]

If you have the chance, and you have netflix, look up two films:

A Separate Peace (or read the book if you can find it)

and

School Ties.

Both of those kinda will illustrate what I mean about the setting as it applies. And both are excellent films worth watching.
Other than that though, I agree, we'll have to agree to somewhat disagree. I'm not saying a sequel isn't warranted or wouldn't be good, I'm just saying that it'll take a LOT of work to live up to the original for me. But I agree, it could be done.

Mirror's Edge, that was a game that needed a sequel, it was a fresh, new idea that just had a rocky start, if they took a look at the feedback, and implemented it into the second game, who knows, it could be held up next to Portal.
Very much this.

Yeah, that annoyed the hell out of me too.

I'm looking forward to the new Syndicate, as that was one of my favourite games growing up.

The Crusader IP was pretty good as well, cool story and cool world. Same with Dreamweb.

Galerians. Think Psychonauts with head explosions and robot fights.
OH MAN I FORGOT GALERIANS... DUDE that game was INSANELY good! It was kinda in the vain of like Parasite Eve right? ALmost an RPG if they made Akira into an RPG?
They did make a sequel. It was called Galerians: Ash. Be glad that you don't know about it. In fact, pretend I never said anything.

Rareware :( Ever since they got bought out, they've been dead. And they were Nintendo's biggest competitor on the N64 :( Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Jet Force Gemini, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie, DK 64...

It still makes me sad.

I think they should remake Arcanum. I played the original a while ago but I couldn't really get into it because of the Isometric viewpoint. I'm sure they could make a really cool game.

So... You want companies to break the monotony of the flood of sequels we get most of the time... By making more sequels?

Uh, what? You do realize that it's possible for someone to make a game which is both unique and not a sequel... Right?

I find it Ironic that you first complain of endless sequals and then want sequals to other games. 2011 was the year of sequals, all the new IP was soon forgotten because of some sequal.
Yeah, but the real problem there is that they keep making sequels to shitty titles while ignoring amazing properties that are just crying out for a sequel!

Sub Culture, barely anyone remembers it, and it's Voodoo graphics won't run on any modern system, but it had one of the most unique and memorable Freelancer style game experiences.

Homeworld 3 wold be awesome. To be fair, thought, it only recently (ie last year or two, I think) got back into Relic's hands, so I'm hoping we'll see something soon......
