I meant that the a lot of the charm of Bully was the setting and nostalgia.. the interactions, the private school, the quiet little town of the alma mater.. It harkened back to a more identifiable time for many of us older gamers (over 21). Schools simply aren't like this anymore. Even private schools. I mean the only direction you could go is either further back in time to maybe private schools in the 40's and 50's or bring it modern day and set it in some sort of urban school in the city. But things are so much different now for students that unless they were willing to take some MAJOR risks by trying to make the game more "mature" since kids today are FAR more mature than we were back in the 80's and early 90's, I don't think they could capture the same "magic" that Bully had for me.
I am 22 and I don't recognize any of that nostalgia. I don't see that kind of magic (as in magic tied to it being the perfect location and setting and time period) in it all. I see how the setting was perfect for that game, but I don't see it failing with a new setting. As long as as much detail and care was put in a new setting as the original, it could still be just as wonderful.
I guess we're just going to have to disagree on that.[/quote]
If you have the chance, and you have netflix, look up two films:
A Separate Peace (or read the book if you can find it)
and
School Ties.
Both of those kinda will illustrate what I mean about the setting as it applies. And both are excellent films worth watching.
Other than that though, I agree, we'll have to agree to somewhat disagree. I'm not saying a sequel isn't warranted or wouldn't be good, I'm just saying that it'll take a LOT of work to live up to the original for me. But I agree, it could be done.
