You, that feeling that you're truly doing something epic, or your playing skills have reached a flow you've never achieved before as if you and the game were one.

The last time I felt it was the day of the Bad Company 2 Demo release.

I downloaded the demo the first chance I got, then jumped right in. Within a minute of playing I had easily mowed over 5-6 other players and destroyed an objective, playing like a master and ending up the top player in a game I had literally just started playing. My FPS skills had never been this good before and I loved it. I stayed up past 4 that night playing and almost couldn't get to sleep because of the awesomeness that had just occurred.

Also Bad Company 2.
As a medic, I got MVP in two rounds of Squad-Rush and after that, in regular Rush consecutively.
Seeing how I'm really not good at the game, that one made me happy as hell.

I get like that when I play a fun Co-Op game with a friend, like Saint's Row 2, or even sometimes ODST: Firefight.

Its hard to get it when I play with other people online because of how many jerks are online to ruin it.

As for when it happens skill-wise, never. Occasionally I'll get it from being lucky and hitting a jump in Saints Row 2, doing like four flips, and landing perfectly, or something to that effect.

Honestly, it's been a long time. I'd say probably playing Halo:CE in the dorms freshman year. We had some truly epic CTF games on Blood Gulch and Sidewinder.

(I hesitate to use the word "epic" since it's thrown around a lot, but as gaming goes, I think those games would qualify)

Anytime I manage to bullshit my way through a fight, on the wings of a dream. My memory is failing me at the moment so I can't remember any specific moments.

When I got three perfections in a row in Halo 3.
Or would have, had my jackass friend not killed me the first two times at the end.

Truly epic? Bioshock's an almost, but it wasn't quite at what I would call euphoric. I've gotta go with Shadow of the Colossus on this one. From the beginning to the finish, that was a game that screamed "MASTERPIECE" at me at every turn; from the subtle chuckle of a nearby creek, to the lumbering monsters I had to scale. Seriously, nothing I've played has ever made me feel so overwhelmed in both scope and beauty.

I was going to say something about Shadow of the Colussus, but it seems you got there first. You made a good point about the environment; the landscape plays a huge role in the game and gives the game a very natural, serene feel. Even the battles don't come across as choppy God of War-esque fights, I guess I'll have to steal from the title here and call them euphoric.

Ohh this happened awhile back for me. It might not have been epic but it felt epic to me. In FXIII during Mission 34 a Tonberry appears for the first time. It totally owned me so many times I was about ready to smash my PS3 controller into the T.V.

However soon after I regained my senses and got all my party members to have proc - Instant Chain and on my [felt like 1,000th try] it happened and I killed it. I cried while bouncing up and down in my room yelling "John come quickly I KILLED IT! Haha I KILLED it!" Only to realize my brother had left the house hours ago bored with my unsuccessful failures. It didn't matter to me - I was overjoyed. I wept tears. Oh god - I loved it.

My face soon became crippled and sad when I had to face 3 of them - but thank goodness for Preemptive Strike ftw. ^^

This happened several times in WoW, with two notable incidents. The first was my Dwarf Warrior, 32 at the time, was ganked by a 37 Orc Rogue in the Marshlands, and I still managed to not only survive the encounter, but kill the rogue in question. This was back when the level cap was 60, and the fight was interesting. I don't remember the specifics, but I do know I had to get a bit of rest in RL after that bout. Don't recall ever fighting that rogue again, but would've sucked to be in his shoes. The other time was when my enhancement Shammy on another server was asked on the spot to heal some mid-60 dungeons (back when the cap was 70), ended up being the main healer; and halfway through the first dungeon, my desk in RL decides to fuck with me by splitting in half. I told my group that my situation was awkward. Not only did we finish that dungeon, we finished another one without any deaths. I didn't have healing gear on my shammy, and it took a fair bit of knowledge of the system to heal the group well.

There were a fair number of exciting moments in WoW. But probably the last time I felt it was a close match of MW2 that came down to the last kill, when I shot an enemy through a random metal sheet completely obscuring my vision.

About 10 hours ago, playing Perfect Dark. Against bots on a non-team combat thing.

I had a darksim around, he was kicking my ass, he was kicking everyone's ass. For those who don't know, darksim is the hardest bot there is on that game. They rival most modern AI. They cheat like fuck though.

Anyway, he was getting kills on everyone, but by some miracle, I managed to equal his kill count towards the end. There was 20 seconds left, all I had was a combat knife and a cloaking device with 9 seconds charge. I snuck up behind him as he was sniping dudes, went up behind him, dropped the closk and in real life shouted out 'Surprise, ************!' and threw a knife straight into his throat as he turned around.

BOOM

1st place.

I felt good.
you sir are my idol! I love Perfect Dark.

OT:I just beat REmake in under 2:31. before Neptune would keep eating me at that point, but I finally got it. now to play on real survivor or invisible mode, or one deadly zombie.

Just Cause 2 has made me feel like my years of video gaming have not been all for naught.

{MINOR SPOILER: Be warned)

Y'see, I was doing a mission for one of the rebel factions of Panau, the Ular Boys, in which I had to invade a satellite launch site, where three huge rockets were loaded up with the sats, ready to launch.

At the beginning of the mission, I flew around the base, sticking triggered explosives to two of the three targets. Then, trying to take it to the next level of epic, I hijacked a jet, and began surfing it towards my final target.

Before getting there, I trigger my explosives, setting two of the satellites ablaze in glorious explode-y fashion, when a communique comes through from my Ular contact that a timer has been set for the launch. Luckily, only about 3 seconds passed before I lept from my flying cruise-missile/jet and parachuted away, fiery death and ker-sploded satellite left in my wake.

That's right, I actually took down all the satellites near simultaneously, saving myself some hectic running about with a timer staring me down, without being told to.

I like to believe it's because that gamer part of my brain (the biggest and most well fed part) knew the deal and automatically convinced me that taking these things out like a True Lies Ahnold would be the best course of action.

Of course, the game still managed to throw me a curve ball because another communique came through, telling me a 4th, secret satellite had been launched and I had to catch up to it and take it out.

Luckily, I found another jet.

Man, I love this game.
I'm pretty sure I was high on brain juice at that point. It was awesome.

Was actually recently with Left 4 Dead 2 Scavenge mode. It's best when we have a really good teamplay. Managed to kill all of them before they filled the car with gas.

Recently I had one while playing Mount and Blade.

I was ambushed, down to 20 men against 200. I lead my men into battle knowning none of them would come out alive, but they went out with honor.

There I was, only one left alive and 100 or so of the enemies footment running towards me. I take out my sword and yell "FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" As I start slashing my foes, I took out a little over a dozen before they overpowered me, I lost was taking into captivity then I broke free, raised an even bigger army and then I killed that son of a *****.

Also, the times in Call Of Duty when I get an unbelievably high killstreak. Especially that time when I had 119 kills, while the other players had less than 30.
I lol'd at the FREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

It always feels good to get revenge on someone who whupped up on you.

^_^

Also, I apparently need to play this game. This is the third time I've heard it mentioned in as many days. To teh wiki!
