Bioshock, I ignored any advice from my friends and showed no interest for the game.

Until one day I bought the game pre owned purely on a whim. It was fantastic, I loved the characters, the scenery and the immersive storyline.

Star Trek: Bridge Commander. I saw it once in a shop years ago, but given the massive amounts of Star Trek Shovelware I didn't buy it. Then a couple years ago I looked up all the Star Trek games to see how many awful ones there were. I read the Wiki article on BC and was intregued. A couple months later I found a copy in a bargain bin (I love small games retailers) and it is now up there with "Birth of the Federation" as my favourite Star Trek game, and I still play it all the time. Thanks mainly to the strong modding community that keeps on adding awesome new features and ships.
Is it like Freespace 2, just seen from the Commander's viewpoint instead of an individual pilot's? Cos if it is then that's reason enough for me to buy it.
I haven't played Freespace so I'm not sure what you mean by that.
It's probably the best space combat sim every made, basically you take part in enormous fleet battles with dozens of fighters and several huge capital ships.
Actually a better idea would have been to ask if it's like Homeworld instead.

Almost passed Deus Ex, appalled by it's dated graphics. But once I got over them, goddamned, it was GREAT! Updated it with some great mods and never looked back since. Sadly, there won't be anything new like it in the near future: the new installation on the franchise looks nice but I really doubt it will be anything more than a Mass Effect 2 copy. Sadly.

I remember that I keep refusing to play Red Alert when my bro offer me to play it. Back then I though I would get too attach to my unit and get upset when the unit is destroy. Years later I had nothing to do and though I would get it a go. I suppose it thanks to Red Alert that I started to play more RTS games.

Found out about the Obscure games about a month ago while listing to music on youtube. Seemed like an interesting setting for a horror game and was cheap so I got it and now absolutely love it!

Dragon age, I heard it was good when it was released but that didn't get me to buy it. But when it was on steam sale I decided to check some reviews and finally I bought it... That was probably the best way to spend 15 euros.

I brushed off Arcanum for a long time purely because the graphics didn't meet my standards, months later I gave a try on a friends recommendation and it became my favourite all time RPG.
Arcanum is mine as well. I had been on a Sierra boycott for about 4-5 years and found arcanum for $1.99 at Gamestop back when they sold PC games. It was about 5 years old then ironically, and became my favorite RPG. Still is to this day.

The metal gear solid series. I never really thought much of it until I started playing about a month ago at which time I realized the series is INCREDIBLE.

Assassin's Creed. I've looked at it before in stores, read previews and reviews of Assassin's Creed II in OXM and thought this looks 'alright.' Then I borrowed AC from my buddy and started playing it and I thought 'I need to get this game.' Thus began my love affair with Assassin's Creed.

Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Was on Holiday steam thingy and my canadian friend was like "It's on sale!".
And I am not really a sci-fi person, I rather have Fantasy (Medieval stuff) or Modern with maybe a little fantasy twist.
Only Warhammer 40.000 I really like.

Then I bought it, installed the first part and wasn't really that expecting much at first but even after not even a little hour I was sucked into the universe D=

I am totally sad I have it on Steam and not a DVD-case in my collection :(

oohh and Stalker (the first one). Never heard of it until he showed it. Damn, was nice :)

Eat Lead: the Return of Matt Hazard.

in terms oif mechanics it was a dull shooter, but the narrative was pure comedy gold

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, years ago now. There was one of those '3 for 2' deals going on, and I just grabbed PoP to fill in the gap, as it were. Completely and utterly fell in love with that game, and it sparked my interest in architecture. I look back on it occasionally and think "Oh dear GOD, what if I had never picked it up." The thought is just too unbearable.

I still love it to pieces. <3

Quake 4. I picked it up for 10$ from a value bin and I really, really love it. I seem to be a sucker for sluggish shooters though.
