This is what I actually believe, though I never admit it unless a conversation brings it out of me.
Hey I love and play games as much as anyone here, I have been playing my PS3 non-stop since I just got it again last wednesday.
But the reason why I consider playing games a waste of time even though I still play them always is because logically they are.
It has been pointed out before, but you don't really get anything out of games that you can use or apply to your life later on. Basically gaming isn't productive, meaning you don't get anything noticeable or useful out of it.
However don't hate me just yet. I'm sure why the reason none of us care about this is because video games are too much damn fun, they are either our primary form of escapism or relaxation activity on our free time.
I work pretty damn long hours sometimes, and it stresses the crap out of me. So when I come home at last, I want to relax! I want to smile! I want to enjoy my measely remaining hours of the day by enjoying myself. That's why I immediately turn on the PS3 or laptop and open up some roms.
Speaking of doing something productive with our time, I COULD be practicing my instruments all this time instead of playing games, but honestly that feels like work to me. I have to put time and dedication to that, and I just can't bear to do that when I just need to relax.
If anyone else ever tells you to quit wasting time on games and do something productive, you can easily respond with, "If I spent my whole free time doing something productive, I will never have free time to enjoy myself will I?"
Just wanted to talk about this, I wonder if anyone else thinks this. I know everyone wants to defend gaming as much as possible, but on a personal level doesn't anyone else stop to think about the amount of time they put into games?
