Gaming is truly a waste of time

This is what I actually believe, though I never admit it unless a conversation brings it out of me.

Hey I love and play games as much as anyone here, I have been playing my PS3 non-stop since I just got it again last wednesday.

But the reason why I consider playing games a waste of time even though I still play them always is because logically they are.

It has been pointed out before, but you don't really get anything out of games that you can use or apply to your life later on. Basically gaming isn't productive, meaning you don't get anything noticeable or useful out of it.

However don't hate me just yet. I'm sure why the reason none of us care about this is because video games are too much damn fun, they are either our primary form of escapism or relaxation activity on our free time.

I work pretty damn long hours sometimes, and it stresses the crap out of me. So when I come home at last, I want to relax! I want to smile! I want to enjoy my measely remaining hours of the day by enjoying myself. That's why I immediately turn on the PS3 or laptop and open up some roms.

Speaking of doing something productive with our time, I COULD be practicing my instruments all this time instead of playing games, but honestly that feels like work to me. I have to put time and dedication to that, and I just can't bear to do that when I just need to relax.

If anyone else ever tells you to quit wasting time on games and do something productive, you can easily respond with, "If I spent my whole free time doing something productive, I will never have free time to enjoy myself will I?"

Just wanted to talk about this, I wonder if anyone else thinks this. I know everyone wants to defend gaming as much as possible, but on a personal level doesn't anyone else stop to think about the amount of time they put into games?

There is this funny thing called "time management" we all tend to learn. Otherwise, I'm placing on my flame-suit for this one..

Many things in life are a waste of time, but for some reason Gaming is picked on heavily with this statement and i don't know why.

Actually, depending on the game and your career path, you do. I think it's if you're going into business and you play MMOs.

In that sense, yes, gaming is a waste of time. So is going to the movies. Or watching television. Or reading a book. None of these accomplish anything. That doesn't mean that they aren't damn fun.

So is everything else. Instead of reading a book,we could write one. instead of watching tv, we should be researching a cure for cancer. Instead of going to bed early, we should be out doing community service.

Everything that really doesn't impact you all that much is a waste of time, but not everybody can be super doctor community service millionaire man.

it is fun.
and therefore not a waste.

sex can also be a waste of time (unless you want kids). but people do it because it is alot of fun.

Hmn, like everything in life, if u overdo it, its bad, I like to think that gaming is a way to leap of this world and jump to another and even its for a fraction of a second, to forget our problems , its a way to relax, like going to movies, and watch tv, as long as u moderate it , and at the end u come back 100% to reality, and put a line btw imaginary worlds and real life

it's new & scary. That's the only reason I can think of right now. Also maybe because it's truly sitting still, opposed to playing outside, which keeps you from getting fat, I suppose.

Define the meaning of life and prove to me that existent has a meaning. Then, I'll accept Gaming is a waste of time. Else, everything is an equal waste of time by definition.

It's because video games are the spawn of satan and hitler and turn the youth into killers. /sarcasm

OT: Yes, games are a waste of time, but frankly, they are a pretty damn fun waste of time. And healthier for you than drugs (which is something video game haters tend to overlook)

No it isn't. Having fun isn't a waste of time to me.

Hmm, that's exactly what someone a few posts above me said...

In the exact same way that Sports, TV, Movies, Reading, hanging out with friends, surfing the internet are all wastes of time.
