God damn it.

If you're going to get all existential then EVERYTHING is a waste of time. Have some goddamn fun.
Took the words from my mouth. You keep plants as a hobby? Waste of time. You build model ships? Waste of time. You tune out cars? Waste of time. Everything is a waste of time.

I play games to have fun, relieve stress, and hell, even experience a thing or two, so no, I do not for a moment consider the time I use to play games to be a waste.

I don't agree on your "don't learn anything from games" argument since a lot of my English knowledge comes from Movies, Games, TV-series and so on, only a small portion comes from school. Games are fun thou and I understand your point of view on this one, I just don't quite agree ^^.

Yeah but you said yourself that it helps you relax after a hard days work so it serves that purpose in your life therefore it cannot be a "waste" of "time" (two words i have a fundamental problem with).

I guess you could argue it that way but I'd say that when you're working after a certain amount of time there's a need for some down time and catharsis and games are as good as most other ways of getting this relaxation time, if you're always working then without this time to do whatever you want eventually you'd burn out

Gaming to relax, and to enjoy yourself isn't really so much a waste of time as it is your chosen way to unwind once you've gotten what you need to do done. I think gaming (or any other hobby for that matter) becomes a waste of time when it takes priority over other things in your life that need attending to, be it mental, social, or physical.

Speaking of doing something productive with our time, I COULD be practicing my instruments all this time instead of playing games, but honestly that feels like work to me. I have to put time and dedication to that, and I just can't bear to do that when I just need to relax.
That alternative would also be a 'waste of time', unless you got enough talent to make alot of money with music.

If anyone else ever tells you to quit wasting time on games and do something productive, you can easily respond with, "If I spent my whole free time doing something productive, I will never have free time to enjoy myself will I?"
That's the spirit.
Aslong as you do enough to keep safe your job or your future prospects, you can do whatever you want in your spare time.

Everything's a waste of time in the end. Gaming is at least an entertaining one.

I don't think having fun is a waste of time. Well I suppose it is but no one is productive all the time, that would be boring and depressing. We all need something we enjoy to make life fun, so really it's not a waste of time.

Wait even I'm confused now, bottom line: I like gaming, it's fun, it can be social and it's how I like to spend my spare time.

One of the issues of a powerful brain like those in humans is the need for stimulation, and the possibility of boredom.

Humans can simply go insane from lack of stimulation and boredom.

Being crazy is less "productive" than playing games or watching movies etc once in awhile.

This is what I actually believe, though I never admit it unless a conversation brings it out of me.
I confess, i've only read this one sentence from your post, however I have a secret to let you in on...

Life is a waste of time

We live at a time in human history where we have more free time than ever before. We don't need to spend all day hunting and farming and all night preparing for the next day of hunting and farming. Enjoy your free time, it was brought to you on the backs of your ancestors!

If I had to choose between spending my life having fun, and spending it being what someone else would call "productive", it would be fun every time. I'm fulfilling myself, and that, in my opinion, is more productive then anything else could ever be.

Yes, it's a waste of time. Not that that means we shouldn't do it; just that we shouldn't waste ALL of our time on it.

Its not a waste if you enjoy doing it.
And playing games can give you experience for going into the gaming industry.

I pretty much agree with you SantoUno, but I consider pretty much everything a waste. There are certain things I do that I consider to be more productive than others. Reading is one thing. At least when I read, I'm learning. Working out is another thing. At least then I'm staying healthy.

Mostly, I look at life and figure I'm just killing time until I die. Most things are a waste of time, but one day you're gonna' be dead and nothing you did is gonna' mean shit, anyway. So if you want to fill the void with video games, I say go for it. That's what I'll be doing.
