You know for that kind of money you could buy Gods personal desktop O.O but if you insist on a laptop there are a lot of set-ups too loook at. You have probably heard of alienware. One of the few brands to truly live up to their reputation but they are still overpriced IMO.

I'd love to get one, but I'm holding my breath for one with an 8-11 hour batter life. We've managed to go from 3 to 5 hours, so by the time I'm pushing 40 or 50, it just might happen.

Unless you want to go Alienware, there isn't really a 'gaming laptop' brand. If you can stand not having a laptop you'll get a much more suitable machine by getting a regular desktop (and for much cheaper).

You're going to burn a hole through your leg, table and your floor and then your house is going to catch on fire. Laptops don't have any airflow. Hopefully these guides help you with your purchases and offer any advice you could ask for.

Hmm, I honestly can't see the point ... but I'll leave the reasons to you.

More or less go to any online shop and sort laptops by price, all the top stuff should be packed with good tech, normally I'd say look up the components but with laptops there isn't much flexibility on that.

A friend of mine managed to build a gaming desktop for only £700 including the coolmaster casing with all the latest parts and a decent hd pc monitor.

This is certainly what you should do, twice the power, half the price, 4 times the longevity.

Those high-performance parts can get cranky often, so one more thing to look at is warranty... the longer, the better.

If you don't really need laptop's mobility, yeah, stay away from this stink-path. Get a desktop.

I just spent that much on my gaming desktop and managed
i7 950 processor
2 x 1GB DDR5 GTX 460 graphics cards
6GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM
Watercooling
Antec 900 Case
850W PSU
+OS, DVD drive, 1TB HDD.

I'm not sure what you'll get if you get a laptop, I had a look at Alienware and for that price you get an i3 CPU, 512MB GT240 graphics card, 3GB 1333Mhz RAM. My friend has one, and they weigh a ton, well... 10kg . Besides, Alienware are overpriced. Personally, I'd go for a desktop, so much cheaper and easier to maintain.

Some comments here.

First off, the alienware weighs 22 lbs? Cuz that's what 10kg is and that's rather doubtful.

Second off, alienware is a ripoff. I found this on cyberpowerpc for almost 1500: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X6-9900_Notebook/ . Way better than the specs you posted.

@OP- Regardless though, gaming laptops are a bad idea. They have poor heat-management and bad battery life, in addition to being RIDICULOUSLY more expensive than their desktop counterparts. Sorry, but I just don't consider gaming-on-the-go to be reasonable at this point.

No.
Alienware hasn't been anywhere near decent for years, and it's not even Alienware anymore. It's a Dell (which bought Alienware a few years back) with a fancy case.

Cooling, cooling, cooling. It's not the hardware you have to worry about, it's the drivers for it.

Just avoid anything, anything with an Intel gpu. It's like the plague. My laptop that I use for work and the web can barely play The Sims 3 and TF2 is completely out of the question unless nobody else is on the map...

You can get very good older models of Alienware computers for very cheap prices.

This all comes to $1627.30 AUD. See what you can have with that kind of money?

- Edit -

Although I forgot to add an OS. Silly me. Still, I'm sure you could tone down the case & DVD-Rom player a bit to find the money for a copy of Win7 Prof
