Games ALWAYS scare me, but Fallout scared me - I didn't feel scared fighting outside, and I wasn't scared fighting people or robots, but anything else while inside never failed to frighten me.

Most tense moment was when I was fighting Duriel in Diablo 2 on Nightmare difficulty. I was already challenging myself to using only lightning spells. Had to slowly pick at him by using Thunder Storm and Nova while he chased me around that small as hell room. And I was so surprised that I never died.

Every single enemy encounter in Fatal Frame 2.

"Where is... AAH! There it is! I Almost got the shot... GOT IT! Whew... Aw crap it's still here.. Where is it OH GOD IT'S RIGHT BEHIND ME RRRRRUUUUUUUNNNNN! *pant pant* Where did it g- IT'S IN THE FLOOR! OH GOD, THERE ARE THREE OF THEM!!! THEY'RE COMING OUT OF THE FLOOR! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!"

Every fight goes exactly like that. I'm a horror junky and even I can only handle so much of that game at a time...

Alright, story time.

Just a few days ago, I played the original Portal. I escaped Glados' death trap and got around to the point where she said she is NOW going to try to kill me.

My heart skipped a fucking beat. I had to stop playing to calm me down.
You didn't see that coming from the beginning?
Well, true. But When she actually said "No more Mrs Nice AI" I got myself worked up.

Mass Effect 2. The Suicide Mission. All of it. I am so pumped every time I play it.
The bit where theres a little growly noise and the platform shakes and the end boss pops up. I was like ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH. I'm such a cool and collected Commander...honest.
yeah, i remember the first time i got there, i was like " OH FUCK IT ISNT DEAD!!!!!! RUUUUUUUUUUUN!" cue my brother laughing his ass of at my fear. gotta love brothers.

Edit: oh yeah, i remember now the scariest moment ive seen from a game, well experienced. in the original gears of war, which i played just as it came out, at age 11, on the whole was not THAT scary, once you realized you could chainsaw everything in half. however, i never got the achievement for completing the whole game until relatively recently. why? you may ask, the act 1 finale.

i remember, you walk in the tomb, and one of the guys panics and runs around a corner, and is literally torn to shreds by a bezerker of whom all you could see was a silhouette. when we proceded into the next room (as i was playing cooperative with my older brother), and the bezerker charged you, i literally froze in fear. couldnt move.
had to let him beat it on single player and resume the game in act 2. only a couple months ago did i go back and beat it with a friend, and we screamed our asses off the whole time, especially when it downed one of us, and we had to dodge around it to save each other.

I hate fighting ghouls indoors in Fallout, especially in vaults. I can always hear them coming, but I don't know when I'm suddenly going to get attacked from behind.

Finding the Flood for the first time in Halo. Almost most of the time when time is almost up in a Castlevania (or sometimes Mario) game.

When Anders blew up the chantry. I was freaking out, and even yelled out loud "GODDAMNINT ANDERS!", which startled my cousin in the other room
Same. Got really into the role-playing part of that one. I believe I started swearing at a fictional character loudly enough to wake other people in my house

"It's too late for that"
DAMMIT ANDERS! What are you doing don't do what I think you're doing... BOOM
You son of a *****!

I pretty much never panic, but playing the amnesia demo i freaked the fuck out during the part with the invisible water monsters and ran around screaming like a girl in total panic.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. All of it.

You walk around in darkness, turn around a corner, and then: water splashing, as if something walks through water. You run the hell away whilst screaming, hide in a corner and cry a little. And it still goes on..."splash, splash, splash". You beg "Make it stop", but it doesn't.
It doesn't.

I usually panic whenever I hear a stalker and can't see a crate of rockets. Honestly, what sort of theoretical physicist doesn't count how many rockets you need to take one down and then just carry that many?

Nemesis from resident evil 3, whenever he came bursting through a wall, I nearly crapped myself.

when you hear the hoof sounds of a kleer in a small space and you just know that bony fucker is gonna jump out on you as soon as you look around a corner
That is not something I would have thought of, but you are entirely right! :O god damn kleers. They are the only enemy in that game that I can't stand.

The only games that made me panic were Penumbra:Overture and Amnesia. I've yet to play a scarier game.

Dragon Age, any fight with a large dragon. It's like taking on a gunship with melee weapons and even the Dragonthorn crossbow (which, by the way has heavy armor piercing) was like using bottles and bricks to face said gunship

Amnesia, I gotta agree with. I'm not too far with it, but what I have played has been solid BPM increasing gold.

FEAR Files had its moments, but the original FEAR takes the cake both because of the game itself, but also because I'm playing it in a crowded dorm room with friends. It ran something like this:

I'm in a warehouse near the end of the game. I know there are ninjas nearby; I've beaten the game before and remember those invisible little bastards show up here. It's nearing midnight, the lights are out, the volume is cranked, and I'm high as a kite on a caffeine binge that has me strung tight. My roommate next to me knows what's about to happen as I'm looking about, and comments "Hey man, I'll call anything if I see it, alright?"
I turn and start telling him not to, that it's okay, when he suddenly bulges his eyes, points to the screen, and starts yelling "OH GOD THERE IT IS!"
Responding on a hair trigger, I wheel about and do the first thing that I always do when startled in an FPS: I clamp my finger on the trigger and keep it there. Three to five shotgun shells later I realize there's nothing there...hitting the reload button, I turn to my roommate and start yelling at him "GODDAMMIT Ian! Don't DO that!"
Right when I hit the word 'do' the windows explode, ninjas pour into the room, and my attention was not focused. Sudden loud noises and bad mans scared the hell outta me in a way I've never actually managed since in a video game.

So yeah. FEAR wins in my book, though Condemned and definitely Amnesia hold places of honor.
