My heart jumped during Monster Hunter Tri's offline mission: Guts, it's what's for diner.

If you know MH3, you know what I mean. You immediatly know something's up when you encounter only one epioth, but to be ambushed by Lagiacrus while having to carve rather rare materials from monsters is nervewrecking and annoying, especially if it shows up while carving...
Just the sound the game makes when a big monster shows up when your back is turned towards the entrance... BRR!

And the general horrorstuff in games. I also didn't like the part in Prototype where you first fight the big dudes+a bunch of soldiers, and they keep coming, and coming, and coming!!

This, and the sudden 'TWANG!' when a Skeleton you didn't notice starts shooting arrows at you.

I think Minecraft is the only game that makes me panicky or scared. Mind you, I have yet to play my copy of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

When i was playing Resident evil 4. When you barricade yourself in that house in the village to keep the villagers out. I was sorting things out upstairs, i turned around and saw the guy with the chainsaw at the top of the stairs. I almost had a heart attack.

Online, its League of Legends whenever I see Akali...

More of a glitch than anything else but I was once given a quest in Daggerfall to kill a monster in a shop.

The shop was a small square with not much in it, it also lacked the monster I was sent to kill.

No biggy I think i'll just browse some wares. Next thing I know i'm being attacked from behind and I turn around to find my first one of these:
It must have been hiding on the ceiling or something...

In any-given NES/SNES style platformer. Normally those are made up of left-to-right levels. I hate when you're suddenly faced with a level that not only demands you go upward but then fills the bottom portion of the screen with insta-death acid.

Also, and back to platforming, the levels in which the screen slowly pans from Level Start to the direction you're supposed to be heading in.

I finally got round to buying "Amnesia" the other day. The first tme I actually come face-to-face with one of the monsters made my blood run cold. To be honest, I screamed like a little girl.
For some reason those things are incredibly terrifying, I think the only reason I died a lot was because I panicked every time I ran into those things, especially in the Prison.

OT: The first time I ran into Pyramid Head in the Prison in Silent Hill 2, and I noticed he doesn't have his giant knife with him anymore but a spear so HE CAN NOW MOVE FASTER!!!

HL2 Episode 2 in the Antlion caves when the guardian is chasing you between the different smaller tunnels. That gets me every time.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories when you have to run away from the monsters. I used to have nightmares about that, the monsters are relentless in their pursuit......

Resi 4 when you have to shoot those zombies which have parasites in them but you can't see them without the infra-red scope.

Bioshock was quite scary as well.

Headcrabs, man.
Fucking Headcrabs.
Oh, and Amnesia.
I didn't even reach a part where I get chased by monsters, just got to look from afar.
It was pants-wettingly scary.

The first time I played Silent Hill, I was crapping myself! When I was transported to the "dark" dimension, I was actually contracting in my chair as the room got darker (it was an evening) to the point I was a scrunched up ball of quivering jelly holding a gamepad.

Then someone knocked on my bedroom door and I very nearly came close to crapping myself for real!

After that I had to play with the light on...

System Shock 2: When you realize that you're 1.7 trillion miles away from Earth, trapped in a supply closet, your gun has jammed, your power armor is out of juice, your health is low, your med hypos are gone, and the only thing helping you against the omnipresent biological horror of the Many is the cold psychosis of Shodan...and there's a Midwife outside.

Situations like that are what wrenches are made for. Any game where boss fights are very long and need you to be paying attention constantly gets pretty tense when I'm coming up to the end of it and don't want to start from the beginning.

Whenever an enemy is chasing me and I can't see behind my character. I know they are there and want to kill me but I can't see how close they are or what they will do, it terrifies me so much.
