The only thing you need to fear is how awesome it will be, and the fact that you will have to buy a second one so you can play on it some more while other people watch television or something lame like that.

Be honest op: Is this thread just to show off your fancy home theater setup? I don't understand how gaming on any TV of any size would damage anything.
Nooo I'm not hauling. Just can't be too careful with my ultra-slim new best friend. Please don't rob me.

What a ridiculous question...If Magnifitacular has actually purchased a 60" LED TV, he should know that the only potential problems come from hertz rates between newer consoles and older tvs.

I think the entire purpose of this thread is for Magnifitacular to brag about his new 60" LED TV. I doubt many 22-year-olds have access to that kind of cash, so thank your daddy in more than just your motto.
Damn dude all I ask was simple question and you kick me in the face. Oh and FYI I-and my three brothers saved cash(from our JOBS) for that damn screen. Is that so hard to believe?

Well for one: You are being ripped off on car insurance.
Big time.

Also: I do agree that $3000 is a bit much to spend on a new TV. I got my 40" LCD 2 years ago for $1400 after tax. The same one is about $999 now. That's reasonable, considering the size of the TV. But, I do agree that people don't mind spending more on something they view as 'worth it'.

My brother-in-law has over $1000 worth of fishing poles. I think that's crazy, but he freaking loves fishing! So it makes sense to him. My other brother-in-law is a framer, and he spend $300 on a hammer. A hammer. I think that's crazy, but he loves it! He claims it the lightest, most balanced hammer he's ever used. It makes his job easier and more enjoyable, so he feels it's worth the money.

I'll be spending about $500 to get my gun license, my hunting license, and my first gun. Some people would think that's crazy! But I really want a gun, and I really want to give hunting a shot (No pun intended)! So I feel the cost is worth it, even if others don't.

So I'd say the same is here with the LED TV.
A bit much for my tastes, but if you have the money and feel it's worth it to you, then knock yourself out.

Not hard to believe, but when you post the size, brand and type in the title, then go on to use words like "big-ass" and "behemoth" to describe it, you're coming across as bragging. If you had phrased it "Will I have problems playing games on my new LED TV?" I'm sure no one would have batted an eye.

That's not necessarily a rip-off, depends on where you live, what kind of car you have. I am a good driver, with a full license and good driving experience and no tickets. However since I live in a major metro area and haven't carried insurance in the last 3 years since before getting my new car, not to mention that my car costs $40,000, well, I pay close to $3,000 a year for mine. It will go down eventually, but with something like that there are a lot of factors that go into the price.

Yeah it should be safe is your worried about your TV or Console. Keep in mind it might be a bit blurry although probably isn't. I play our Wii (I'm a Pc gamer so I don't have a nice console) on a 50 inch I think? I dunno, an f'ing huge TV anyway and it gets a little pixelated on some games but it's a Wii not a 360/PS3 with HD.

Also kind of hurts my eyes after a while, but again that might be due to focusing on a huge, somewhat pixelated object for extended periods of time.

Well I'm paying $1000 less then that on a new car, with two people on it (one of them under 25), fully insured, $1,000,000 liability, and a $300 deductible. And I've had tickets. 3 of them. You're absolutely right that there are a lot of factors, but if I was being charged $3000 a year, I'd be shopping elsewhere. Immediately.

Do you live in an urban area? How long have you carried insurance for? Is it a sedan? sports car? suv? The Canadian government urges owners to have at least $2,000,000 liability. :)

"Game Mode" usually refers to one of two things. First, a kind of high gamma overdrive that brightens everything into colorless soup. This is a bad thing. Second, a mode that ditches as much image/audio processing as possible in order to reduce latency. This is a good thing. Neither have anything to do with burn-in. Game on.

Like I said: I get that there are plenty of factors. But $3000 a year is an ass-load of money.
But even my $2000 a year pales compared to the insurance in Saskatchewan. I wish Ontario's car insurance was government run. I'd punch a nun to pay $500 a year in car insurance.

You're solidly right, but did I really have to phrase it correctly? I mean most people would express some pride in this big purchase, which I worked my ass off for. One of my brothers hosted a damn blu-ray party over this-now thats bragging. But whatever thanks for the advice.

Yeah, it's something I've struggled with as well as I've gotten more successful. For example, something I may not see as bragging, like discussing with a friend what type of car I want to buy, could come across as such because all of the cars I'm discussing are clearly out of that friend's price range.

I've learned to be more mindful of what I say and to whom.

Yeah, it's getting pretty ridiculous. I live in TO and that's what I'm looking at since I haven't carried insurance in over 3 years. Rip-off! Then again, after seeing how people drive in TO? I can kind of understand it.

As far as I know, gaming is safe on everything except older style projection tvs (not lcd projection though) and plasma. Plasma and older projection tvs you can actually wreck the screen by "burning" an image into it. I've seen it once on an old arcade game with that used to have this stupid firetruck game on it. The firetruck is still there.. forever..

I'm quite tempted to play Alan Wake and RDR on my new home theater big-ass LED but I'm worried about any technical issues that might occur from gaming on the behemoth. It has a Game Mode but is it still safe?

Thaaanks.
Unless your screen is a plasma screen, you should be fine.
There's no issues I'm aware of in terms of videogames screwing up a screen or wrecking a tv, that isn't a plasma.

To be honest. I wouldn't even want to try playing on something like that. I'd have to sit at the other end of my house to really be able to see anything on it properly. The larger the screen the further away you are supposed to sit from it.
For gaming at 60" a school corridor would be good place i suppose <.<
