Sorry everyone.
I would insert a picture of a crashed train but that'd probably get me on probation

that hard core gamers exist, for that matter, "casual gamers" also don't exist.

I am not more dangerous than a gang of bikers.
I think we want that stereotype, though.
We dont want that stereotype because that means that videogames are bad, mmkay?

Seriously, if they think that gamers are more dangerous than bikers they will most likely stop allowing people to be gamers.

That we're all fat and lazy.

I'll admit I'm lazy as a mothafucker. I make Snorlax look diligent.

But goddammit, I'm a slim 96 pounds at five foot 6.

We do not all wear glasses. Granted, a lot of us do, but it's by no means a universal thing.

Also, we don't all wear shirts tucked into our trousers, have braces, and have cropped hair.

Hell, people have a hard time believing I'm a gamer, I look like a stoner!
Might have something to do with the fact that you ARE a stoner?
Blarg! Ninja'd..

Well said, however, I suppose the point here is stereotype by association if that makes sense. Basically you could say all nerds are gamers, but not all gamers are nerds (I know, not all nerds are gamers). While we'll share some traits, many gamers are quite normal people like myself who have a girlfriend, who go out on weekends, play sports (ex: hockey and water skiing), and so forth. I think this thread is showing how gamers perceive many different tho roughly similar stereotypes being thrown our way, and basically like you said we'll share some traits here and there but we often differ quite a bit.

The great thing about this thread is that you are preaching your anti-stearotypes to fellow gamers. pointless.
Except it's a human tendancy to share feelings - it makes people feel better about themselves to know their not alone in their thoughts. That's why most groups are formed. People enjoy people of similar ideologies. Therefore, while we won't change any stereotypes by griping about them here, we will form a slightly tighter social bond with one another. Not so pointless, in my opinion.

The stereotype that we have no social aptitude. I, personally, have very little, but I have friends who are very social and also play plenty of videogames.

Also, shooters in general. The genre of first person shooting has evolved significantly in that they often give narratives and create an identifiable environment for the player. It's gotten much more complex than the electronic stress ball that was the original DOOM. Not that DOOM wasn't a good game, but I have a hard time convincing non-gamers that shooters have in fact evolved from such humble beginnings.

I have 3:

Not every gamer still lives in their parents' basement.
Not every gamer would rather IM friends rather than talk to them.
Not every gamer spends every moment NOT playing video games watching porn & eating hot pockets.
