What... Does seriously no one ever do research? Heck even our own escapist article a couple of days ago showed more clarification.

These are not Spartans, these are just marines. It shows them in training from before the war up to the war and then it ends with it in the year 2557 when the main character is now a leader aboard the UNSC infinity and find the transmission from the Forward Unto Dawn.

These aren't Spartans? Damn you video segment where they show a historical battle! Yeah that part pretty much misled me sorry . I would have thought these were ODSTs though since the teaser featured the ODST chant. Meh, oh well. Thank you for the clarifcation.

I... don't see what was so bad about it? Is it planning on being a full theatrical release or a straight-to-DVD thing? If the former, then I can see the... "issues" I guess, but if it's the latter then at the very least it looks miles better than all of those countless Sci-Fi Original Movies.

it's going to be a web series by machinima, it'll come out weekly i think until halo 4 is released, starting probably in september? not sure.

... then I really don't see why it's worthy of being laughed at. Maybe I'm just not understanding what it actually is, but it doesn't seem that bad to me just based purely off of this trailer.

That movie is the worst movie based on another media's IP.

i can't remember where i saw it, but there was some dragonball cosplays, and holy shit they looked 100x better than anything that movie had served up (there are some damn good cosplays, but just saying, when a movie budget can't do as good as someone doing it in their free time as a hobby, then you probably aren't trying too hard on your movie)

This is actually a really good example of why I don't use generic trailers to judge something anymore, because most of the time they're just small snippets and occasionally (especially CGI trailers for video games) they don't even relate to what the product they're advertising actually ends up being.

yeah exactly, there have been multiple times (especially in video games) where i might love/hate the trailer, and the game/movie ends up blowing me away in the opposite direction.

recent examples:

TOR trailers-awesome cgi pieces, but nothing representative of gameplay
Drive trailer: looked pretty good, standard driver hired badass mercenary style thing, ends up being complete opposite, I think half the theater left with a half hour to go with how much people hated it in there.
(there are plenty more, those two just stuck out in my head a bit more.)

I think whats even more hilarious are the comments that youtube page is getting. Almost all votes are positive and every 4-5 comments theres someone talking about "jizzing" themselves....It's almost sad, if it wasn't so laughable.

This looked like a parody, rather than an actual movie trailer. This is supposed to be a HALO movie, not some whiney teen drama flick. The acting was TERRIBLE, bland characters, even the chief seemed more robotic than he normally is.

"Get behind me, I'm your only chance for survival" He never would have said that, chief doesn't explain himself because he never needed to. Him being your only chance for survival is already implied, the most he would say is "get behind me". I know that sounds nitpicky but I've played Halo from the very first release. I don't give 2 fucks about Halo 4 since it's not Bungie but I loved them all, Halo 2 and 3 have some of my best gaming memories.

If you want an amazing trailer, check out the much older one. Now THAT is how you shoot action scenes. I'm willing to bet this didn't need a bloated budget either.

I got a war-boner just watching this. And I don't even like Halo.

Yeah, have to agree with most people here: not terrible, exactly, just absolutely bland and disinteresting.

Also, no mention of how they retconned the whole lost in space bit at the end of Halo 3.

Actually, from what I've been able to gather, the series is suppose to take place during the human covenant war and before the first Halo game. Some of the characters in this, specifically the main character, will be on the UNSC Infinity in Halo 4. According to one source, the series takes place about 20 years before the events of Halo 4. Fan estimates put the events between Halo 3 and 4 at about 5 years. The Human Covenant war lasted from 2525-2552 so this puts "Forward On to Dawn" at about 2537. However, I have my doubts about this exact time placement, because based on what we see in the trailer, the cadets don't even seem to know who or what the Covenant are. So somewhere among the first 3 years of the war would make more sense.

Anyway, this trailer was umm....okay i guess. I don't really see what's so bad about it, I mean I 'll admit the acting made me cringe a bit, but for a non Hollywood film its passable. I wasn't really expecting more than what I saw.

Don't really see what's wrong with this trailer either, though if you don't like animeish character designs then I understand (I'll admit that Krogan looks a bit funny/weird). Overall the designs and animation are fine and at least the acting didn't make me cringe.

This is almost EXACTLY what I wanted from a Halo movie, between this and a pre-Reach prequel or a Halo 1 prequel.

I disagree, OP, I'm pretty damn excited for it. Without Hollywood's bullshit, we might get something that is competently directed AND follows the established canon, without Hollywood shitting all over it to add 'drama.'

Well for starters, none of the games had the big 117 painted across his chest. I thought that particular detail look completely out of place, unnessisary and almost cartoony. The dimensions of the helmet look off, but I'm not sure if the one in the trailer is supposed to be Halo 2-3 (bungie's) or the Halo 4 (343's) version.
Honestly, I think this looks better as it is more akin to the chief in the games.

EDIT Also, The impression I got from the trailer (and somewhere I read), this is supposed to be set before even Reach, during the first contact with the covenant, so The Chief should have the mark five armour, not the mark six.

What the fuck. I was hoping for Spartan IV's that follow the books (as opposed to the Reach Spartan III's which shat all over established canon).
