I hope yes. Get an 18 year old mate to buy it for you or something. If it gets approved for under 18 peeps, it's gonna get very watered down and no one's gonna enjoy that :\

OT: Never been a huge Duke fan, but this sounds like the right way to design the game... hope they stick to their guns on the content.

Good. Slap an AO rating on the box and let it go back to hell. It's getting really old now with people talking like this will be GOTY 2011. It's a 12 year old game that will in no way live up to the hype.

EDIT: Apparently I'm one of the few people who remembered that AO rating = game is dead unless it gets censored to be brought back down to an M rating. See, all the consoles do this stupid thing where if a game is rated AO, they won't actually play it. Hence why there are NO games rated AO: nobody wants to release a game that's blocked off from millions of console owners. See, they want people to be able to buy and play the games, so they'll tone it down to get that M.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AO-rated_products

Notice how the only game not on PC or Mac in that list of games that do have an AO rating is listed as canceled for the Playstation? If this game does get an AO rating, it's either getting censored, going PC only, or just being put in the garbage bin. HINT: It's probably going to be the first one after all the crap they've going through making this game. Although I can still dream it'll be the third one.

Fine then, I say f--- the ESRB and PEGI, this is a game for ADULTS. Hell, why not have a requirement to show a valid ID? If we can keep the obnoxious brats that pollute online games away from games they shouldn't be playing in the first place, maybe the world will be a slightly better place.

And yet they'll still get their hands on it regardless, bad parents will receive no blame, and the rest of us will die a little inside.

Pretty much damned if you do, damned if you don't with the censorship because it will be awfully hard to strike a people-pleasing balance. Personally, I don't want any balance or civility and say let's go all out!

It's exactly what I expected to hear. Something just has to be over the top to compensate the fact I've been waiting all my teenage years to come out. Jeez, I should've been playing this on the PS2.

Oh no, I hope they won't tone it down.

It's THE Duke! He's supposed to be too much for one man (Or woman) to handle!
Agreed.

They shouldn't tone it down because of stupid laws, it's my eyes, let me watch what I want, it's my ears, let me listen to what I want, etc.

i'm sorry but if, "Shoot "em Up" can be a movie, Duke Nukem certainly can be a fucking game.

On a more serious note, this sounds exactly like what I expected from a Duke Nukem game. Things are looking good if this makes it through without any major censoring.
If it gets slapped with an AO rating then Gearbox is screwed - No Wal-Mart, no Best Buy, no Gamestop etc. means they will have incredibly crappy sales and Duke will die for good.

It has nothing to do with law (at least not until the California case is decided) and everything to do with retailer policies.

They should release 2 versions, and AO version for those of us who want it all, and a slightly edited version for the M rated crowd. I would bet even the AO version would sell a million copies.

Maybe do like The Saboteur, and have a code that unlocks the nudity so those who choose to not see that stuff can avoid it.

Amazing questions, how come movies can have unrated versions where they show all sorts of nasty things but games can't do that. They get stuck with AO or something and no one wants to touch it then.

Isn't the point of a ratings system to enable crazy games to be released but under proper authority and supervision? I want to see games in their original form, not watered down, no matter how crude and stupid they are. I want it to be my decision whether I choose to partake or not.

This is ridiculous. A film with all this stuff would have no problems getting released, and such films HAVE been released.

Immature? Yes.

Overly crude? Nah.

I think Gearbox is worrying over nothing. Unless the Duke pulls out his penis and uses it as a rope to swing from ledge to ledge, then I don't think they have anything to worry about.

When Duke originally came out, it got an M rating with sexually explicit overtones and violence. Now the graphics are much better, the violence is more explicit and the sexual overtones are, well, more explicit.

An AO rating would make sense, but people would buy it anyways. Most people that played the original are adults now, me being 29 myself. I'd buy with the AO rating. Buying the game online for the PC is not an issue. Buying the game for the consoles on the other hand might be an issue since you can't walk into Gamestop and buy an AO rated game off the store shelf.

Gamestop would have to make one exception for this game and place the game behind the counter and check every ID that wanted to buy it. I'm pretty sure this would not be a problem. Of course Walmart would NEVER stock this game with the AO rating (more profit for gamestop).

I feel sorry for Australia as Gearbox would have to tone the game down just to be able to play the game and the launch time for Australia would be much later. Sorry guys. There might be issues in Germany as well. Sorry again.

To be fair though, Duke is OVERTLY American. Did the American flag in the intro tip anybody off? :p

i hate to break it to you but i rekon it will...i mean... it IS duke nukem after all
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it gets X-Rated in this age of Political Correctness and Gritty Realism.

Oh and hi Matt!
