Duke Nukem 3D had strippers, swearing and gore too, and it fucking rocked. Even if it is censored in Australia, or wherever; that will just boost piracy.

I think I speak for everyone when I say the ESRB can go eat dick.
You speak for a minority. Most of us realize that the ESRB is some of our best friends.

They're keeping the government's grubby hands off of our content! If they give an inappropriate rating, the game can be banned or reclassified (see: GTA). Without them... they'd just be banned.
Maybe it's just the anti authority side of me but i don't think anygroup should be telling me what kind of games people should are shouldn't be playing. The ESRB and the PMRC are government groups, and it's the fact that parents are too dumb to know that kids shouldn't be playing a game called GRAND THEIFT AUTO.

Step 1: Release ESRB-friendly game
Step 2: Day-one patch to make game how it's suppose to be
Step 3: ?????
Step 4: PROFIT!

There must be SOMEONE on the ESRB that has played the originals at one point and will tell the other people there "Hey, guys. We can't fuck with this. This is Duke fucking Nukem." and then all will be well. Because everyone knows you can't just fuck with Duke.

No but in all seriousness, there must be some ppl at ESRB that remember the old Duke games and that will realize that this is just the way Duke is.

How about we have a new ERSB rating?
D for Duke:
Includes-
Strippers, nudity, gratuitous swearing, curse words rendered in massive letters, giant aliens getting punched in the junk and Duke getting pleasured by two girls at once.

And people still want laws to regulate games. Publishers bend over for the ESRB.

And everyone complaining about the ESRB censoring the game. The ESRB censors nothing. They just say 'well dudes, this is an AO game, due to this and this and that.' And then publishers shout 'Get all that shit out of the game or Wal-Mart will not carry it!' And then devs do.

If there is one game that can get away with being an AO title and still be a best seller... well it's probably GTA, but if there's two, it's GTA and Duke Nukem.

Still, even if they tone it down, as long as this is the starting point it'll still match Duke's style. (Plus there's the old censor bypassing thing of sticking thing much more offensive than you actually want to put so that what you really want to do looks tame by comparison.)

And now I want to watch that trailer.

Yes but in Duke 3D, the strippers were never nude, the swearing was always bare minumum - never any F-bombs (even when saying Die Hard's famous "Yippe-Ki-Ya-Mother-Fucker", it was bleeped), and the gore was... well, it was 16 bit PC gore. Not exactly the kind of gratuitous blood and chunks that modern tech can provide.

If they can put more on it, they could make it almost a satire of the idea. Which probably would go over right somewhat. Although if they had to tone it down, not too much, just maybe take some of the raw edge off.

An idea would be to have an age gate at the beginning of each new game, and if you put it under 18, then it adds a censor bar to whever it would apply. If above, then give it like it is. And let you switch between them throughout the game. That way you could possibly switch it back over if for some reason you wante to play with your grandma of children present.

I'm not concerned, even if it gets an AO, Randy Pitchford does not seem like the type to compromise to me.

Honestly this just makes me even more excited. The game industry NEEDS something completely crude, juvenile, and awesome. Too many developers go for real and gritty. Whatever happened to fun and ridiculous?
Well, you have every game cliffy B has made.

Oh no, I hope they won't tone it down.

It's THE Duke! He's supposed to be too much for one man (Or woman) to handle!
Well this is the guy who ripped an alien's head off and s--t down its neck...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it gets X-Rated in this age of Political Correctness and Gritty Realism.

I've just thought of a new problem with digital distribution....if boxed copies should die out completely that is...

It can be decided it's 'too obscene for Australia' and then Steam has to lock it from that region, forcing an entire nation to turn to piracy, when before they could have just ordered the game from overseas and then laugh at their government's idiotic attempts to control them.

I propose they release an uncut patch on a website hardcore conservatives would never visit... /b/? =P

Then everyone just needs to shut the fuck up and give slight nods to each other to signalize "DNF uncut is fucking awesome".
