This is a blatantly self-serving attempt by the developer to shift focus: "Our game isn't the joke to end all jokes in the history of games, it's too bad for the ESRB"!

I really hope they don't take anything out. It wouldn't be Duke Nukem if it wasn't rude crude and over the top.

I do hope this fine gentleman of bygone times returns to educate the modern man of the manly manliness society has beaten out of us.

Tone that sucker down to the VERY edge of M vs. AO.

And if Jack Thompson's head literally explodes, then and ONLY then will Gearbox be successful.

Since I'm be old enough to buy M games by the time this comes out, I've got no problem with any ratings that will be on it. GO DUKE!

well that "disappointment" was about as subtle as EA's "shock" over the outrage with the Taliban in MoH

so moral of this is if you want to see the REAL Duke Nukem, you will buy the special unrated (or Adults only) edition that will come out a little later

If the BBFC starts messing with The Duke then they'll rue the day they messed with the nerds of the 90's.
eh, very unlikely that the BBFC would really care that much.

the only game that they have had real objections to was the manhunt series which required a few cuts and tbh it's still tasteless even for today.

Good to see there are still people willing to fall for this kind of desperate attempt at gaining hype.

Duke is a monument to male chauvinism, crudeness, and levels of testosterone so high, there is NO WAY he's not wearing a wig.
To change that is to ruin the series.

I think I speak for everyone when I say the ESRB can go eat dick.
You speak for a minority. Most of us realize that the ESRB is some of our best friends.

They're keeping the government's grubby hands off of our content! If they give an inappropriate rating, the game can be banned or reclassified (see: GTA). Without them... they'd just be banned.
Maybe it's just the anti authority side of me but i don't think anygroup should be telling me what kind of games people should are shouldn't be playing. The ESRB and the PMRC are government groups, and it's the fact that parents are too dumb to know that kids shouldn't be playing a game called GRAND THEIFT AUTO.
Now, imagine you're a parent who is completely clueless, and decide to buy a random game with an ambiguous title like, say, Silent Hill. Or Penumbra.

THAT'S what ESRB is there for.
Turn over the game case, they have picture of the content on the bck.
...won't help you much with Penumbra. It looks like a mine exploration game (and it is... in a sick way...)
I think all this just goes to show that parents should carefully evaluate whether or not their children are prepared to play a game that has certain themes.

I owe Senator Leeland an apology. Obviously he's right and the ESRB isn't doing their jobs right. If even the people who actually play the games don't even know it's not a government group, that the whole point of its existence is to avoid government intrustion into the rating system, that it doesn't censor anything and merely informs the publisher of the rating it's going to get, and that it's one of the finest rating boards out there since they not only adhere to a very precise and objective rating systems (unlike say, movie ratings, which are likely to give a higher rating to a movie if a homosexual relationship in it is between two females than if it's between two males, all other things the same) but also explain the reason for the rating on their warning labels so that parents can make completely informed decisions (unlike say, music album ratings, which just slap a 'parental advisory' there that don't help clear if the music is about violently shooting people or just watching girls' boobies, or both).

Let us all suport Senator Leeland. This way when people rage on the internet about this, they'll actually be raging at someone who deserves it.

I would love Duke to have an AO rating, but I also want to be able to buy it, so, tone it down to M please.

And by buy it, I mean that most companies will not sell AO, will not even carry AO games, so no, I don't need mommy's permission thanks.
